Last weekend saw an escalation of violence that started when Israeli military infiltrated Gaza, initiated a firefight, and retreated under cover of shelling. One Israeli and 7 Palestinians were killed, and Hamas responded with rockets. Today, factions in the besieged Gaza Strip say they have agreed to an Egypt-brokered ceasefire. “The resistance will respect this declaration as long as the Zionist enemy respects it.”
A tax-deductible organization in the U.S. helps fund a program to bring recent high school graduates to Israel for a free, month-long program where they will engage in science while “learning about Israel.” Weizmann USA, with assets of two-thirds of a billion dollars, takes money away from the U.S. economy and sends it to Israel…
If Israel is Jewish, it cannot be democratic; if it’s democratic, it cannot be Jewish. But now the nation-state law makes it plain. Israel is for Jews only, officially.
Yousef Kronz was well within Israel’s designated “safe zone” in Gaza, wearing a Press vest, when he was shot in both legs. A young man who ran to help him was shot in the leg as well. Then Israel refused Yousef passage to the West Bank for treatment that would have saved at least one of his legs.
Since March 30, 2018 Palestinian refugees in the Gaza Strip–including families, women, and children–have gathered along the Israeli border to highlight their dispossession in 1948 and protest the growing humanitarian catastrophe. From that time through December 16th, 2019, Israeli forces have killed 364 Gazans and injured over 35,000, including women, children, disabled individuals, medics, and journalists. Mainstream media headlines and airwaves would be filled with condemnations from senior UK and US politicians and prominent commentators. Surveillance footage shows that Yasin al-Saradih ran toward soldiers with an iron bar, soldiers shot, beat and dragged him by his limbs. It was nearly half-hour before he received medical care, eventually succumbing to his wounds. This is contrary to earlier IDF reports that al-Saradih died of smoke inhalation.
A boy who threw stones at IDF jeeps suffered the punishment of execution by a soldier; it was the third time in recent weeks that soldiers aimed at stone-throwers’ heads.
CNN’s report on Ahed Tamimi did not inform viewers that shortly before the slapping incident an Israeli soldier had shot Ahed’s young cousin in the face. It also failed to mention that Israeli soldiers had recently killed another young Tamimi relative, and left out additional significant information.
