Second week of September 2019: Israeli violence includes confiscating a piece of private Palestinian land the size of Ellis Island; killing, injuring, abducting, and bombing children and adults – all by the “most moral army in the world.”
Israeli settlers have taken over dozens of springs in the West Bank, all of them on private Palestinian land, and are keeping the Palestinian owners away. Rina Shnerb, a Jewish teen, was murdered last week at one of them.
University of Illinois officials quickly reversed their decision to block an event about justice in Palestine when they were reminded that such discrimination is illegal under the First Amendment. “We’ve seen this happen again and again with Palestine-related events on campuses,” explained an attorney. “It’s critical for groups to stand up for their First Amendment rights in these situations.”
The lives of Palestinians are constantly disrupted: Israeli military and settlers show up daily to abduct, demolish, harass, or otherwise bring hardship. Two days of news reports: Israeli soldiers abduct numerous Palestinians, demolish homes, Israeli war planes attack areas, etc… the daily news that US media organizations don’t tell Americans
Constantly referring to Israel as our “most cherished ally” promotes an illusion of common interest that does not actually exist. In actuality, Israel is a liability.
The Israeli occupation is a constant, chilling presence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and among Palestinians living in Israel: children and adults are routinely abducted, Israeli housing is built on Palestinian land while Palestinian homes are demolished – just a few examples from one “average” day.
