Israel has outdone itself in 2021 – destroying large swaths of Gaza, shooting to kill Palestinian protesters, endangering Palestinian children, and more. Here is a rundown of the year’s violence, covered by numerous IAK posts – with hopes that together, we can work to bring justice and peace in 2022.
Israeli soldiers gathered and photographed 13 Palestinian children, forcing them to ‘say cheese’ before snapping an illegal image. The children, all in kindergarten and early years of elementary school, were forced to stand outside in a line. Several of the children were trembling and crying.
Defense for Children International declares that Israel regularly commits “extrajudicial or willful killings” of Palestinian children… Children in a village were regularly targeted; some of this targeting was to punish their parents for political activism… 85 children from the village had been arrested over the years, 10 of them under 15. “More than 500 villagers had also been wounded, and five people were killed.”
Childhood in the Gaza Strip is unlike anywhere else in the world. Here, thanks to Israel, a ten-year-old has already experienced the violence of three wars and has spent his entire life under brutal blockade.
Israeli police said “No” to a “Yes to Peace, No to War” poetry festival designed to encourage creativity in students at a Palestinian orphanage school in occupied Jerusalem.
In the course of just 4 days, Israeli soldiers managed to attack and traumatize scores of school children, as well as adults who were there to serve the children. Mainstream media does not report on these incidents because they don’t match the narrative of benign occupation and Palestinians as terrorists.
