Elor Azaria, the Israeli soldier charged with manslaughter after shooting a wounded Palestinian in the head, now has a paid position on the political campaign of an Israeli Prime Minister candidate.
Azaria served 14 months for the killing. He returned to Hebron a folk hero and celebrity.
Elor Azaria shot an injured, unarmed Palestinian in 2016 & served a short sentence in prison. Back at the scene of his crime, he was treated not like a criminal, but like a prince.
JerusalemOnline reports: This year for Purim, many Israeli children are dressing up as Elor Azaria, the Israeli soldier who fatally shot a prisoner lying on the ground incapacitated. “I’m not saying that he did the right thing but in my eyes he is a hero,” stated one grandmother…
As Israel considers adopting the death sentence for Palestinians, it is worth recalling that under occupation, Palestinians already face harsh injustice and that such a law would be illegal according to international law. The examples of Elor Azaria’s 9-month prison term for killing an unarmed, injured Palestinian at point-blank range, and Ahed Tamimi’s 8-month sentence for slapping an IDF soldier, indicate that the Israeli “justice” system is already severely lopsided.
Elor Azaria took the life of a man who was no threat and received a lenient sentence. His sentence has been reduced to 9 months, though he shows no remorse. (Contrast Ahed Tamimi, who slapped an IDF soldier in full armor, and has just reached a plea bargain that will give her a total prison time of 10 months.)
An Israeli Defense Forces soldier has been sentenced to 18 months in jail on a manslaughter conviction for shooting a Palestinian man in the head after he had already been disarmed and injured by other soldiers. The Independent lists Palestinian children who have received longer prison sentences for throwing stones than Elor Azaria did for killing the unarmed man.
Israeli forces killed 200 Palestinians and injured almost 8,000 during almost two years of weekly Palestinian protests at the Israel-Gaza border. Israeli army snipers tell their stories…
A bill before Congress seeks merely to stop US aid dollars from subsidizing the incarceration and torture of Palestinian children. Pro-Israel organizations would rather believe outrageous fallacies than stand up for these kids’ rights.
The Friends of the IDF gala Wednesday raised a small fortune for the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) – a military machine that uses American aid to kill and maim.
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu got suspended from Facebook this week after a long string of racist statements. Critics have accused the premiere of race-baiting ahead of the hotly contested elections, which are set to be held on September 17th. On Friday, Netanyahu made comments insinuating that his government could launch an offensive on the besieged Gaza Strip “at any moment.”
