On Mother’s Day, it is dangerous to be a woman in Gaza: According to UN Women, more than 22,000 women and nearly 16,000 girls have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.

Data from Gaza’s Government Media Office and the UN Population Fund show that more than 22,000 women have lost their husbands during the war, while around 55,000 pregnant and breastfeeding women face severe health risks amid the collapse of Gaza’s health care system and worsening malnutrition.

At least three Palestinians, including the head of the Khan Younis police investigations unit, were killed and four others wounded on Sunday in latest Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip, authorities and medical sources said.

“Israeli attacks on police forces in Gaza represent a continuation of the occupation’s crimes and terrorism against our people to perpetuate the state of lawlessness, sow chaos, and hinder any efforts to recover and restore normalcy to Gaza,” Hamas said in a statement.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

Israeli forces raided Palestinian women prisoners’ section 10 times in 2 months, group says: Women prisoners in Damon Prison faced beatings, strip searches and solitary confinement in March and April, according to Palestinian Prisoners Society.

Israeli army chief says more recruits needed ‘immediately’: “I am not preoccupied with political or legislative processes, but rather focused on the multi-front war and on defeating the enemy,” Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said. “To continue doing this, the Israeli army needs more soldiers immediately.”

ISRAEL-US WAR/CEASEFIRE ON IRAN – NEWS & HEADLINES:

It can not be overemphasized that Israel is the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

The American people have made clear that they do not want the US embroiled in a war with Iran, but Israel partisans and the Israel lobby use their massive political clout to bring about whatever is beneficial to Israel – including putting the US military in harm’s way. For more background on Israel’s role in American wars, watch IAK’s short film, “The Israeli Hit List.

Iran’s response to Trump’s offer is “totally unacceptable”: According to the Wall Street Journal, the Iranian counter-proposal suggested a shorter moratorium than Trump’s offer, the export of part of the highly enriched uranium stockpile and the dilution of the rest, and refusal to accept the dismantling of facilities. Trump responded: “I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘representatives’. I don’t like it – totally unacceptable.”

ISRAEL’S WAR/CEASEFIRE ON LEBANON – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Israel has invaded Lebanon seven times in the last half century. Between 1978 and 2000, Israel maintained an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon — Hezbollah was formed to fight that occupation.

Although Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in November 2024, Israel has attacked Lebanon almost every day since, committing over 10,000 air and ground violations – the most violated ceasefire deal in recorded history – and killing at least 397. (Read about UNIFIL, the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, here.)

Israeli attacks in the past 24 hours have killed 51 people, including two medical workers, the Lebanese Health Ministry says.

Israeli Drone Kills Man and 12-Year-Old Daughter in ‘Barbaric’ Double-Tap Strike: The pair were among the at least 24 people killed by Israeli strikes on Lebanon on Saturday despite a nominal ceasefire.

Israeli forces have continued to directly target Lebanese ambulances, according to the Lebanese Health Ministry, and those attacks resulted in at least two paramedics killed Sunday and five others wounded.

The US will host the third round of talks between Israel and Lebanon on 14 and 15 May, a state department official and an Israeli official told The Times of Israel.

OPINION: If Trump wants out of war he needs to stand up to Israel on Lebanon: Tel Aviv has controlled the talks from the beginning and as a result Hezbollah is stronger. Time for Washington to learn from history and take the reins

DEATH TOLL – WAR ON LEBANON (tentative):
  • Lebanon: at least 2,846 people have been killed since “ceasefire” began on March 2, 2026
