Forward, JTA, NYT, CNN ‘lie through omission’ about Tlaib, Omar trip

Media are attacking the Congresswomen by claiming that the group sponsoring their proposed trip ‘promoted blood libels.’ The claim is based on one item briefly posted on the NGO’s website six years ago… and the news reports don’t mention that the item quoted an Israeli news report about a book (since retracted) by a prominent Israeli historian saying there was “a factual basis for some of the medieval blood libels against the Jews…”

Jewish donors providing ‘Benjamins’ to defeat both Tlaib & Trump

Philip Weiss reports that Rep Omar was berated endlessly for her statement about “the Benjamins”; others have said the same thing – because it’s true… Top donors for both Dems & Repubs are Jewish… JTA’s Ron Kampeas reports that for “Jewish reasons,” Jewish Americans are fundraising to defeat Rashida Tlaib and Donald Trump… (includes video)

But the Israel lobby goes far beyond AIPAC and is embedded in organizations throughout the U.S.

Election of 3 Israel critics to Congress is historic, but many new Dems are committed to Israel

The good news: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, and Rashida Tlaib are Israel-criticizing congressional newcomers. The bad news: other Dem midterm winners join the army of Israel supporters – having vowed to keep America’s commitment to Israel “as fixed and as permanent as the sky” and “make sure that we are supporting Israel into the next generation.” In addition, some key leadership positions will be filled by pro-Israel Jews. Norman Finkelstein sees this as a sign of “a growing divide between US Jews and Israeli Jews.”

NYT: A New Wave of Democrats Tests the Party’s Blanket Support for Israel

New York Times reports that a cluster of activist Democrats — most of them young, most of them cruising toward House seats this fall — has dared to breach what has been an almost inviolable orthodoxy in both political parties, strong support for Israel, raising the specter of a crack in the Democratic Party that Republicans could use to attract Jewish supporters.
