News roundup for Saturday, July 25, 2026, Day 1,023 since Israel began its 2023 genocide on the Palestinian people.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM GAZA:

For some basic info on the Palestine-Israel conflict, go here. For more critical context, skim thisthis, and this. To read about a remarkable but underreported, 20-month-long peaceful protest in Gaza against Israel, go here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The number of Palestinians being killed in Gaza is lower since the October 2025 “ceasefire” began, about 290 days ago – about 4 per day, vs. over 100 per day during the 733 days of the “war.” But Israel is actively working (with Trump’s “Board of Peace“) to ethnically cleanse Gaza of its Palestinian population, even as the low-level killing continues. Genocide experts, along organizations like the United Nations and Amnesty International, maintain that the genocide is ongoing.

Israeli occupation forces killed six Palestinians and injured more than twenty on Saturday, in the 289th consecutive day of “ceasefire” violations across the Gaza Strip.

Born too soon: Premature babies fight for survival in Gaza: There has been a sharp increase in premature births and underweight newborns, as well as stillbirths and birth defects, since the genocide in Gaza began on October 7, 2023. Many pregnant women arrive at hospitals suffering from severe stress and exhaustion after repeated displacement, deprivation of essential goods and bombings.

Gaza Interior Ministry says Israel deliberately targeting police to spread chaos: Ministry says killing of North Gaza police chief reflects deliberate campaign against civilian law enforcement.

DEATH TOLL – GAZA GENOCIDE (tentative):
  • At least 1,200 since ceasefire began Oct. 11, 2025 (247 children, 191 women)
  • 5 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began – one by friendly fire, and four others in incidents during the first three weeks of the ceasefire.
  • 73,326 killed (~22,000 children, 33,000 women and girls) since October 2023
  • More statistics below

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. For background on the West Bank, read this and thisFor information on the significance of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, read this and this.)

Israeli Settlers Push Relentless Escalation in the West Bank as Palestinian Restraint Begins to Crack: Settler incursions, expanding outposts and the military’s response have created conditions in which confrontation, as seen in the deadly clashes over the weekend, was increasingly inevitable – and this at a time in which the army itself is attacking and harming as many Palestinian civilians as possible, with politicians responding by legalizing more Jewish outposts and farms.

The Palestinians know full well that the government has equipped their assailants with guns and all-terrain vehicles not for their security but to foment an escalation.

Israeli human rights groups warn of ‘mass pogroms’ in occupied West Bank: While violence by Arabs is called “terrorism”, the media tends to downplay attacks by Jewish settlers in Israel by characterizing it as “settler violence”. This violence, enabled by the Israeli military and ignored by many in the US, has been intensifying.

Following a deadly settler attack on Friday, Israeli-Palestinian human rights group B’Tselem and 19 other Israeli human rights organizations condemned the international community’s “silence and inaction” and called for “immediate action to stop Israel’s violence and prevent pogroms by settler militias”.

IDF prepares to demolish homes* of terrorists** who carried out West Bank shooting attack

*NOTE: Punitive home demolition is a violation of international law.

**NOTE: Israel’s framing of Palestinians as terrorists is a political, not fact-based choice. Palestinian attackers exercising – albeit imperfectly – their internationally recognized right to resist their oppressor and occupier (the UN extends that right to the point of armed resistance). Palestinians have for generations made nonviolent attempts to call attention to Israel’s injustices. The UN has passed hundreds of resolutions demanding justice – to no avail.

In reality, international law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power. Calling Palestinian resistance members “terrorists” is an attempt to delegitimize the struggle of a people seeking freedom, justice, and self-determination.

UN rapporteur calls Israeli attacks in occupied West Bank civilians ‘pogroms’

US condemns violence by ‘all parties’ in occupied West Bank: State Department: “We are in regular dialogue with partners about improving stability and security in the West Bank,” said a State Department spokesperson. “A stable West Bank keeps Israel secure and is in line with this administration’s goal to achieve peace in the region.”

Israel plans 763 new settlement units, threefold expansion of Eli settlement in occupied West Bank: Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich says the project will triple the size of the settlement south of Nablus in coming years.

DEATH TOLL – WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM (tentative):
  • At least 1,185 killed (~251 children) since Oct. 7, 2023

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

Israeli FM led efforts to oust ICC prosecutor Karim Khan: Report: The sexual misconduct allegations against Khan, who was elected in 2021 as the court’s prosecutor, surfaced shortly after he announced in May 2024 that he was seeking arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former defense minister Yoav Gallant. Both are accused of committing war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza, including using hunger as a weapon of war.

A vote for his dismissal took place on Friday. Before the vote, Khan’s lawyers said they were given opportunity to address the allegations. “We know of no court or tribunal in any proper and fair legal system that bars a person facing the gravest professional sanction from being heard,” they stated.

Over 140 rights groups denounced the case against Khan, saying it “breaches basic human rights guarantees” and “dangerously opens the Court to political overreach.”

NOTE: Israel has run an almost decade-long secret “war” against the International Criminal Court, deploying its intelligence agencies to surveil, hack, pressure, smear, and allegedly threaten senior ICC staff in an effort to derail the court’s inquiries into Israeli leaders’ crimes. The Eighth Front: Inside Israel’s $1 Billion Influence Campaign: The deep unpopularity of Israel’s post–Oct. 7 military offensives among the American public spurred Israel to reassess the scope and structure of its influence operations. The Israeli government subsequently reinvented its public relations strategy by hiring registered foreign agents directly so that it could control messaging, target specific demographics, and act with speed and precision.

Since 2023, Israel has spent over $100 million on influence in the US under FARA.

IRAN, LEBANON, & SYRIA – NEWS & HEADLINES:

It can not be overemphasized that Israel is the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

Israel has invaded Lebanon seven times in the last half century. Between 1978 and 2000, Israel maintained an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon — Hezbollah was formed to fight that occupation.

Although Israel is not at war with Syria, the Israeli army has reportedly carried out over 1,600 violations inside Syrian territory since August 2025, and demanded the demilitarization of southern Syria – but also vowed to permanently occupy some areas.

Sharaa: Syria working to reach security deal with Israel, will not give up on Golan Heights claim: Additionally, Syria has no intention of intervening militarily in Lebanon, although Syria is discussing ways to help overcome the crisis there with the Lebanese government.

Any violation of Syria’s territorial integrity unacceptable: UN chief: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stresses that Golan Heights are Syrian territory, adding that Tel Aviv’s violations are unacceptable.

*NOTE: Israel partisans are quick to label speakers of inconvenient truths antisemites – then dismiss those truths. When a human rights org publishes a report stating that Israel is committing genocide or apartheid, for example, or that Benjamin Netanyahu is a war criminal (as Mayor Mamdani did), Israel partisans generally accuse them of spreading disinformation, being antisemitic, or using a blood libel. What the accusers do not do is engage with the facts in the report to show mistakes or lies – because the reports are legitimate and documented.
