NEWS & HEADLINES FROM GAZA:

For some basic info on the Palestine-Israel conflict, go here. For more critical context, skim thisthis, and this. To read about a remarkable but underreported, 20-month-long peaceful protest in Gaza against Israel, go here.

Three Palestinians were killed and others injured in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday amid continued violations of a fragile ceasefire in the enclave, a medical source said.

Gaza records highest death toll in six months as Israel intensifies bombing: Palestinian health officials say 119 people were killed in May, marking the deadliest month of 2026.

Why the plan to disarm Hamas is destined to fail: The US and the Board of Peace are ignoring the lessons of past, successful peace settlement efforts. Historically, one of the most important factors in peace settlements has been a neutral mediator – something completely lacking in this conflict.

DEATH TOLL – GAZA GENOCIDE (tentative):
  • At least 932 since ceasefire began Oct. 11, 2025 (247 children, 191 women)
  • 72,941 killed (~22,000 children, 33,000 women and girls) since October 2023
  • More statistics below

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. West Bank healthcare workers go on strike as Israel’s financial siege* guts the Palestinian health sectorAs Israel indefinitely withholds Palestinian customs revenues, public hospitals have cut hours and slashed healthcare workers’ salaries. Patients are left to navigate a system running on interns and half-capacity labs.

*NOTE: Israel collects import/export taxes on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, which is supposed to be handed over for the PA’s operating budget. Israel regularly keeps back some of this revenue (an amount now totaling over $4 billion), claiming it is being used illegally for the so-called Pay-For-Slay program (Palestinians often call it the Martyr’s Fund) – a social safety net for the Palestinian families that have lost their breadwinner due to the conflict with Israel.

Many Palestinian “martyrs” were not killers or attackers, but were themselves killed while walking to school, participating in a peaceful demonstration, or sleeping in their beds – but Israel does not differentiate, claiming the program encourages Palestinians to volunteer for suicide missions.

Notably, Israel has its own compensation program for families of IDF soldiers killed or injured in the line of duty, as does the US. For a deep dive into the topic, read The Legitimacy of Family Compensation for Palestinians Killed, Injured, and Imprisoned.

Israel arrests four more women, now 89 in custody: Palestinian Prisoner Society said Israeli forces arrested 35 Palestinians during raids across the West Bank overnight, including four female college students, bringing the number of Palestinian women currently held in Israeli custody to 89, including three minors, three pregnant women, 19 administrative detainees* and two women suffering from cancer.

*NOTE: Thousands of the Palestinians currently in Israeli prisons are administrative detainees, being kept indefinitely behind bars without charge, trial, or access to a lawyer, on the basis of “secret evidence.” A growing number of detainees are children. Administrative detention is intended to be used only in “exceptional” circumstances, but Israel uses it widely. (Read more here.)

Israel orders seizure of 30 hectares (74 acres) of Palestinian land near Bethlehem: Official says order is the third such land appropriation measure issued by Israel since the start of 2026.

DEATH TOLL – WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM (tentative):
  • At least 1,168 killed (~244 children) since Oct. 7, 2023

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

ISRAELI MEDIA: Arms and Abraham Accords: Israel Sells More Weapons to Arab Allies Than to U.S.: Exports to Abraham Accords countries jumped fivefold in two years, while Europe’s share of Israeli defense sales fell sharply. ISRAEL’S WAR/CEASEFIRE ON LEBANON – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Israel has invaded Lebanon seven times in the last half century. Between 1978 and 2000, Israel maintained an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon — Hezbollah was formed to fight that occupation.

At least 17 people were killed and 64 injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas of southern Lebanon on Tuesday, despite an ongoing ceasefire and a fourth round of US-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel in Washington.

WHO verifies 190 attacks on health care in Lebanon in 3 months: UN agency says attacks killed 128 health workers and injured 332 others, straining already overwhelmed health system. Israeli strikes have damaged 17 hospitals; three other hospitals and 42 primary health care centers remain closed.

Israeli forces abduct Syrian man in raid in southern Syria*

*NOTE: Although Israel is not at war with Syria, the Israeli army has reportedly carried out over 1,600 violations inside Syrian territory since August 2025.  Israel has demanded the demilitarization of southern Syria, allegedly to prevent any “potential threat” from post-war Syria – but has vowed to stay permanently in what seems to be an informal border expansion.
