Three Palestinians were killed and others injured in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Tuesday amid continued violations of a fragile ceasefire in the enclave, a medical source said.

West Bank healthcare workers go on strike as Israel’s financial siege* guts the Palestinian health sector: As Israel indefinitely withholds Palestinian customs revenues, public hospitals have cut hours and slashed healthcare workers’ salaries. Patients are left to navigate a system running on interns and half-capacity labs.
*NOTE: Israel collects import/export taxes on behalf of the Palestinian Authority, which is supposed to be handed over for the PA’s operating budget. Israel regularly keeps back some of this revenue (an amount now totaling over $4 billion), claiming it is being used illegally for the so-called Pay-For-Slay program (Palestinians often call it the Martyr’s Fund) – a social safety net for the Palestinian families that have lost their breadwinner due to the conflict with Israel.
Many Palestinian “martyrs” were not killers or attackers, but were themselves killed while walking to school, participating in a peaceful demonstration, or sleeping in their beds – but Israel does not differentiate, claiming the program encourages Palestinians to volunteer for suicide missions.

Israel arrests four more women, now 89 in custody: Palestinian Prisoner Society said Israeli forces arrested 35 Palestinians during raids across the West Bank overnight, including four female college students, bringing the number of Palestinian women currently held in Israeli custody to 89, including three minors, three pregnant women, 19 administrative detainees* and two women suffering from cancer.
*NOTE: Thousands of the Palestinians currently in Israeli prisons are administrative detainees, being kept indefinitely behind bars without charge, trial, or access to a lawyer, on the basis of “secret evidence.” A growing number of detainees are children. Administrative detention is intended to be used only in “exceptional” circumstances, but Israel uses it widely. (Read more here.)

At least 17 people were killed and 64 injured in Israeli airstrikes targeting several areas of southern Lebanon on Tuesday, despite an ongoing ceasefire and a fourth round of US-mediated talks between Lebanon and Israel in Washington.
