GAZA FLOTILLA – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Read about the Gaza Flotilla 2025 missions here and here, and the deadly 2010 mission here; find out about the global flotilla movement here.

Gaza-bound aid flotilla activists to be disembarked on Greek coast, says Israeli foreign minister: The International Committee for Breaking the Siege of Gaza says Israel ‘kidnapped and unlawfully detained’ between 178 and 180 activists after attacking 22 boats in flotilla. The committee held Greece “directly responsible” given that the raid occurred within its maritime scope.

Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir criticized his government’s decision to release the flotilla participants, saying it “sends a message of weakness to Israel’s enemies.”

Legal experts say Israel’s interception of a Gaza-bound aid flotilla in international waters violated international law, according to legal experts, raising concerns over freedom of navigation and the rights of detained activists.

US criticizes allies* over failure to stop Gaza aid flotilla: US Department of State spokesperson Tommy Pigott on Thursday described the flotilla as a “baseless, counterproductive stunt, adding, “This flotilla circumvents mechanisms designed to ensure humanitarian assistance is received by civilians.”

*NOTE: Pigott failed to acknowledge that Israel is blocking aid that Gazans desperately need (and has been for years), or that Israel’s seizure of the flotilla was a violation of international law.

UN Secretary General Spokesman Stephane Dujarric pointed out that “the solution to all this is greater humanitarian access.”

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM GAZA:

For some basic info on the Palestine-Israel conflict, go here. For more critical context, skim thisthis, and this. To read about a remarkable but underreported, 20-month-long peaceful protest in Gaza against Israel, go here.

Bride-to-be shot in the head one day before wedding: Medical officials stated that a young woman, Hala Darwish, was rushed to the Intensive Care Unit suffering a serious gunshot wound to the head when Israeli soldiers targeted her family’s home with live rounds in the Al-Maghazi refugee camp. Her family said Hala was preparing to be married on May 1 but is now in extremely critical condition as medical teams work to save her life.

A Palestinian paramedic was killed in an Israeli strike in the Gaza Strip, the military confirmed on Thursday, amid ongoing Israeli violations of a ceasefire in the enclave. The Israeli army claimed that the paramedic was a member of Hamas, and posed “an immediate threat” to its forces, without giving any further details.

UN says Israel blocks durable shelter materials* from entering Gaza: UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said that in addition to shelter materials, Gazans desperately need: more clean water, sanitation materials, expanded food and health services, and educational support. Another critical need is notably supplies for repairing generators and clearing rubble.

*NOTE: As a de facto occupier of Gaza, Israel is obligated under the law of armed conflict to ensure that the occupied civilian population is provided with supplies essential to their survival, including basic food and medical supplies as well as clothing, bedding and means of shelter. Instead, Israel issues displacement orders and takes over more and more of Gaza, leaving the Palestinians with less and less space, as tents wear out and blow away.

Displaced Palestinians in southeastern Gaza City set fire to their own tents on Thursday in a rare act of protest, reflecting mounting frustration over worsening living conditions and continued Israeli gunfire despite a ceasefire.

Gaza media office reports 377 Israeli ceasefire violations in April: The Government Media Office in Gaza said Israeli forces committed 377 violations of the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip during April 2026, resulting in 111 people killed and 376 injured. Only 4,503 aid trucks entered Gaza during April, compared with 18,000 stipulated under the agreement – 25%.

Fuel deliveries were also far below agreed levels, with 187 trucks entering the territory out of 1,500 planned – about 12%. This has had a direct impact on essential services, including healthcare, water supply and electricity. Just 1,567 people were allowed to pass into or out of Gaza compared with 6,000 expected under the agreement, or roughly 26 per cent.

Gaza unemployment surges to 68%

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. For background on the West Bank, read this and thisFor information on the significance of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, read this and this.)

Israeli forces assaulted a disabled child and his brother during a raid in occupied East Jerusalem, local sources said Thursday. A video clip showed Israeli soldiers chasing a child with disabilities through the streets of the Shu’fat refugee camp, northeast of East Jerusalem. The child appeared frightened and disoriented before being cornered and physically assaulted. “Israeli soldiers continued to chase the child despite his clear medical condition.” The sources said the child, Mahdi Abu Talib, was briefly detained, while his brother was beaten.

UN experts said Thursday that sexual and gender-based violence is being used as a “systematic tool” of control and oppression against Palestinians under Israeli occupation, warning that the acts may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. “Israeli sexual violence has become embedded in Palestinians’ daily lives under occupation… and operates as a tool of control, subjugation and dispossession.” The experts said abuses occur in multiple contexts, including detention, checkpoints and house raids, and involve Israeli forces and settlers.

ISRAEL-US WAR/CEASEFIRE ON IRAN – NEWS & HEADLINES:

It can not be overemphasized that Israel is the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

The American people have made clear that they do not want the US embroiled in a war with Iran, but Israel partisans and the Israel lobby use their massive political clout to bring about whatever is beneficial to Israel – including putting the US military in harm’s way. For more background on Israel’s role in American wars, watch IAK’s short film, “The Israeli Hit List.”.

Iran vows to protect nuclear and missile programs, get US out of the Strait: Supreme Leader Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei reportedly said Thursday that Iran will treat its nuclear and missile programs as national assets, insisting that Iranians will safeguard them “just as they defend their land, sea, and air borders.”

Khamenei added that Iran would establish new legal frameworks to manage the Strait of Hormuz and “eliminate the misuse of this waterway by hostile enemies,” adding that he envisioned a future “without the United States” in the region.

ISRAEL’S WAR/CEASEFIRE ON LEBANON – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Israel has invaded Lebanon seven times in the last half century. Between 1978 and 2000, Israel maintained an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon — Hezbollah was formed to fight that occupation.

Although Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in November 2024, Israel has attacked Lebanon almost every day since, committing over 10,000 air and ground violations – the most violated ceasefire deal in recorded history – and killing at least 397. (Read about UNIFIL, the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, here.)

Israeli forces killed at least 32 people in southern Lebanon, the Lebanese National News Agency reported.

Rubio floats a plan to disarm Hezbollah so Israel won’t have to: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in comments to Fox News earlier this week,“That’s what we’re working towards establishing, is a system that actually works where vetted units within the Lebanese Armed Forces have the training, the equipment, and the capability to go after elements of Hezbollah and dismantle them so Israel doesn’t have to do it,” he said, arguing that Hezbollah poses a threat to the Lebanese people as a whole.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM SYRIA:

Although Israel is not at war with Syria, the Israeli army has carried out over 1,000 airstrikes and 400 cross-border raids on Syria since December 2024. Israel has demanded the demilitarization of southern Syria, allegedly to prevent any “potential threat” from post-war Syria – but has vowed to stay permanently in what seems to be an informal border expansion.

Thursday appears to have been a slow news day for Syria.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

Freed Palestinian journalist describes Israeli prisons as ‘living graves’: Ali Samoudi says he lost half his body weight during a year of administrative detention, thanks to inadequate food, torture, and lack of basic necessities.

Israel to pour $730m into propaganda arm amid reputational crisis: Global support for Israel drops sharply as criticism mounts over genocide, apartheid and regional wars. The figure marks a sharp increase from the $150m set aside the previous year, which had already surged to roughly 20 times pre-2023 levels.
