ISRAEL’S CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS:

ISRAELI MEDIA: Government defiance of High Court paves way for future disregard of the lawIn a dramatic joint statement, ministers announced that the government would not accept the results of a High Court ruling in June which undercut Karhi’s efforts to assert control over the Council of the Second Authority, an independent broadcast media regulation body.

The very fact that the government stated publicly that it does not see a High Court ruling as valid and binding is a dangerous precedent which lays the ground for disobeying other court decisions.

The declaration has a deep and weighty impact on the idea of the rule of law, the government’s fealty to the law, and the entire concept of a democratic country being governed by the law without any exceptions, including the government, its agencies, its ministers, and all the way down to the individual citizen.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM GAZA:

For some basic info on the Palestine-Israel conflict, go here. For more critical context, skim thisthis, and this. To read about a remarkable but underreported, 20-month-long peaceful protest in Gaza against Israel, go here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The number of Palestinians being killed in Gaza is lower since the October 2025 “ceasefire” began, about 270 days ago – about 4 per day, vs. over 100 per day during the 733 days of the “war.” But Israel is actively working (with Trump’s “Board of Peace“) to ethnically cleanse Gaza of its Palestinian population, even as the low-level killing continues. Genocide experts, along organizations like the United Nations and Amnesty International, maintain that the genocide is ongoing.

Violations in Gaza continued on Monday as medical sources reported that six Palestinians were killed and more than twenty wounded in several Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip, despite the declared ceasefire.

Hamas says dissolution of Gaza governing body ‘serious step being implemented on ground’: “This step implements Hamas’ previously declared position that it will not be part of the arrangements for governing Gaza after the war. It is also intended to remove the pretexts used by the occupation to block the entry of the National Committee,” a Hamas spokesperson said.

Netanyahu says Gaza reconstruction depends on Hamas disarmament*

*NOTE: While Trump and the negotiators have been insisting all along that Hamas must disarm, and even claiming that Hamas agreed to disarm – the facts are different. See video, or read Israel’s Best-Kept Secret: Palestinian Resistance Never Agreed to Disarm

DEATH TOLL – GAZA GENOCIDE (tentative):
  • At least 1,072 since ceasefire began Oct. 11, 2025 (247 children, 191 women)
  • 5 Israeli soldiers have been killed in Gaza since the ceasefire began – one by friendly fire, and four others incidents during the first three weeks of the ceasefire.
  • 73,098 killed (~22,000 children, 33,000 women and girls) since October 2023

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. ‘Companion of a Lifetime’: Maher Younis Dies after Spending 40 Years in Israeli Prisons: Maher Abdel Latif Younis, one of the longest-held Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and a symbol of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement, died Sunday, after finally regaining his freedom following four decades behind bars. He was 68.

Israel detained Younis in 1983, when he was 25 years old, accusing him of carrying out resistance activities and belonging to the Fatah movement. He was first sentenced to death, later it was commuted to 40 years. He was released in January 2023.

His death closes one of the longest chapters in the history of the Palestinian prisoners’ movement, but, for many, leaves behind a legacy inseparable from the broader story of imprisonment, endurance and the enduring Palestinian struggle for freedom.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

Israeli command system identified 850,000 targets in Gaza and Lebanon wars, says supplierIsrael identified about 1,000 potential targets a day during the first two years of the wars in Gaza and Lebanon, with its command and control system, according to a presentation by the country’s largest arms supplier, Elbit Systems, at a military conference in London. Targets included people, vehicles, and other objects tracked in real time.

An expert in targeting and civilian harm assessment said the 850,000 figure was highly concerning: with 2.2 million people and 300,000 buildings in Gaza before October 2023, the IDF may have at one point or another targeted “up to or over half the entire population and infrastructure” of the territory.

ISRAELI MEDIA: ‘Clear call for genocide’: Sa’ar speaks out after Turkish foreign minister’s antisemitic* interviewIsraeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar on Monday condemned Turkey’s foreign minister for what he labeled a “clear call for genocide” against the Jewish people. Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan appeared on CNN Türk on July 2, where he said, “These people have become a burden that humanity can no longer bear,” in reference to the Jewish State.

*NOTE: Israel’s self-positioning as the global home for Jews is another example of the intentional conflation of Israel with all Jews. This framing makes it easy to insist that criticism of Israel is antisemitic (i.e. that anti-Zionism is antisemitism) – with the ultimate outcome that critics are silenced and Israel enjoys impunity for its actions. Fidan’s comment, that Israelis are a burden, is not directed at Jews because they are Jews – it is directed at Israel because it is terrorizing and destabilizing the region.

Israeli leaders and pro-Israel organizations have a long history of conflating Jews with the state of Israel – the so-called “Jewish State” (of which 21% of its residents are non-Jews).

A ‘stab in the back’: Israel’s refusal to extend Jordanian water agreement may spark crisis: The 1994 peace treaty signed by Amman and Jerusalem required Israel to supply Jordan with 50 million cubic meters of water annually, an amount doubled in a 2021 commitment that expired in 2025.

IRAN, LEBANON, & SYRIA – NEWS & HEADLINES:

It can not be overemphasized that Israel is the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

Israel has invaded Lebanon seven times in the last half century. Between 1978 and 2000, Israel maintained an 18-year occupation of southern Lebanon — Hezbollah was formed to fight that occupation.

Although Israel is not at war with Syria, the Israeli army has reportedly carried out over 1,600 violations inside Syrian territory since August 2025, and demanded the demilitarization of southern Syria – but also vowed to permanently occupy some areas.

IRAN

President Donald Trump on Monday said that the U.S. will either make a deal with Iran or “finish the job,” meaning defeat Iran militarily, adding that “it won’t be tough to finish the job.” Trump said that the U.S. ended its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz “because we’re close to maybe making a deal,” before adding “I don’t know, look — we’re going to win one way or the other.”

‘Honor your signature:’ Iran FM says peace talks will not continue if U.S. threats persist: Araghchi cited Clause 13 of the U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding, which stipulates talks would begin only after both sides fulfilled obligations related to implementing a Lebanon cease-fire, allowing free transit through the Strait of Hormuz, lifting sanctions and releasing frozen Iranian funds.

Over 10 million Iranians took to the streets of Tehran on 6 July for the main funeral procession of late supreme leader Ali Khamenei, with citizens fervently demanding “vengeance” for his killing. Banners reading “There will be blood” and “We will kill Trump” were seen being raised across the procession.

LEBANON

An Israeli drone strike on southern Lebanon killed at least four people on Monday, 3 of them women, according to Lebanese media. Pro-Israel outlet JNS reported the same incident, claiming that IDF soldiers targeted a “suspicious vehicle,” killing 4 “suspects,” but did not reveal that 3 of them were women, or whether the group turned out to be dangerous.

Lebanese mayor denies Netanyahu’s annexation claim of Christian villages: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently claimed that some Christian villages in southern Lebanon have asked “to be annexed” by Israel. “This claim is totally untrue,” Hanna al-Amil, mayor of Rmeiche said. “None of the Christian villages have made this request as Netanyahu claimed.”

Lebanon says direct damage from Israeli war estimated at $3-4 billion: Preliminary estimates do not include indirect losses or economic damage, Lebanese information minister says.
