BREAKING: Israeli forces hijack Gaza flotilla in int’l waters

Early morning Gaza time, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition and Thousand Madleens to Gaza ships were illegally intercepted by Israeli occupation forces.

Participants—humanitarians, doctors, and journalists from across the world—have been taken against their will and are being held in unknown conditions.

One thing we learned from the abuses and imprisonment Global Sumud Flotilla participants have experienced this past week is how vital early embassy intervention is. Governments must act now—silence enables abuse.

TWO YEARS OF GENOCIDE IN GAZA: WHAT TO READ

After two years of Israel’s relentless bombardment, Gaza’s Government Media Office reports an average of 92 Palestinians have been killed each day. The vast majority were civilians, women and children.

For 2 years now, children have paid heaviest price of Gaza crisis: UNICEF

UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, on Tuesday declared, “For nearly two years now, children have paid the heaviest price in this crisis,” in which, he said, “an average of one child (is) either killed or maimed every 17 minutes.’

Pires, on the second anniversary of the Israeli war, stressed that children are enduring severe physical and psychological trauma, having been orphaned or displaced multiple times, and exposed to “horrors that no child should ever have to look at or live.”

PJS: “Israel Is Committing Mediacide In Gaza”

In a statement issued Tuesday, the 2-year mark of the war on Gaza, the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has accused the Israeli occupation of conducting the largest and most deliberate campaign of media extermination in modern history, targeting journalists and press institutions during two years of relentless war on Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and Jerusalem.

“This is not just a war of bombs and bullets—it is a war against truth,” the statement read. Israel’s war is “designed not only to destroy lives but to silence the press. Journalists were hunted, media offices were flattened, and cameras were torn from the hands of those who dared to document.”

“This is not only a war on Gaza,” the syndicate added, “but a war on the conscience of humanity, on the profession of journalism, and on the world’s right to know. The occupation is not just killing journalists—it is killing the story. The scale of journalist killings in just two years amounts to the first and largest media genocide of our time. It is a moral disgrace for anyone who remains silent or equates the oppressor with the oppressed.”

US’s top diplomat vows ‘unwavering’ backing for Israel

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has marked the two-year anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks on Israel with a pledge that the United States remains “unwavering” in support for Israel, and lamenting a “troubling rise” in anti-Semitism around the world, and said there would be “no compromise” in combating it.*

“The United States reaffirms its unwavering support for Israel’s right to exist, to defend itself, and to ensure the safety of its people,” Rubio said, adding, “as the United States marks this tragic anniversary and honors the victims, we renew our resolve to prevent such evil from ever taking place again.”

*NOTE: Actual antisemitism is not as prevalent as Israel partisans – like Marco Rubio – would like us to think. A large portion of what they call antisemitism is simply criticism of Israel, the self-proclaimed “Jewish State,” in other words, opposition to Zionism.

Israel blocking transfer of incubators in Gaza: UNICEF

Israel has repeatedly denied permission to transfer incubators from an evacuated hospital in northern Gaza, worsening conditions in overcrowded hospitals farther south where newborns are now sharing oxygen masks, UNICEF says.

James Elder, a UNICEF spokesperson, described scenes of extreme overcrowding and exhaustion inside Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza, where mothers and babies line the corridors.

“In one of the pediatric rooms, there were three babies and three mums on a single bed, one source of oxygen, and the mothers would rotate the oxygen 20 minutes to each child,” he told the Reuters news agency. “This is the level of desperation mums have now got to.”

Elder said vital medical equipment remains trapped in hospitals that have been shut down in the north. “We’ve been trying to recover incubators from a hospital that was evacuated in the north, and we’ve had four missions denied simply to get those incubators,” he said, referring to supplies stuck at al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital in Gaza City, damaged by Israel.

Israel military intercepts another Gaza-bound aid flotilla

The boats were intercepted 120 nautical miles off the coast of the Gaza Strip, with footage released by the organizers showing Israeli naval ships approaching the boats and jamming signals, and then Israeli soldiers storming the boats.

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) and the Thousand Madleens to Gaza (TMG)* said that the crew were unarmed and had been captured. They were made up of activists, doctors, journalists and elected officials.

The Israeli army has also seized over $100,000 worth of humanitarian aid, including medicines, respiratory equipment, and nutritional supplies.

This comes after the Israeli army intercepted a previous flotilla on Friday, with over 450 activists detained, including Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, who has since, with most of the activists have been deported.

*The 1000 Madleens to Gaza is a global civil society campaign aiming to organize a massive maritime flotilla of 1000 ships from many nations worldwide. The campaign seeks to break the blockade of Gaza through peaceful, coordinated international action, inspired by the voyage earlier this year of the vessel “Madleen.”

‘We are more motivated than ever’: French MEP onboard new Gaza flotilla

A French Member of the European Parliament taking part in the Thousand Madleens to Gaza flotilla, Melissa Camara told Anadolu on Tuesday that despite the risks involved and previous mistreatment by Israeli forces, participants remain determined to carry out the mission and challenge the illegal blockade.

“We know what Israel is doing. They are always breaking international law, and we know that we could be kidnapped. We know that there could be violence, but we are more motivated than ever because we know that we are on the good side of history,” she said.

Camara added, “Our governments and our parliaments are doing nothing, so we have to do something. We have to stop the genocide. We have to stop the apartheid and stop colonization.”

Palestinian detainee dies due to deliberate medical negligence

A Palestinian detainee, 22-year-old Ahmad Hatem Mohammad Khdeirat, from Adh-Dhahiriya in the Hebron governorate, died on Tuesday in an Israeli hospital due to deliberate medical negligence. Khdeirat had been in custody since May 23, 2024.

Khudairat’s death was the result of deliberate medical neglect; he suffered from chronic diabetes.

The number of prisoners who have died in imprisonment has risen to 78 since October 7, 2023. Since the beginning of the Israeli occupation in 1967, the number is 315, according to prisoners’ institutions.

According to the latest figures from Addameer, the Palestinian Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, there are currently 11,100 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including 400 child prisoners and 53 female prisoners.

This number includes approximately 3,544 Palestinians placed under “administrative detention”, which allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for renewable intervals ranging between three and six months based on undisclosed evidence that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.

Hundreds of Israeli Colonizers Invade Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem

537 illegal Israeli settlers reportedly stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday, including 343 in the morning and 194 in the afternoon, and performed Talmudic rituals in front of the Dome of the Rock.

They performed this illegal act* under the protection of occupation police.

*NOTE: Anyone can visit the Al Aqsa Mosque grounds, but only Muslims are allowed to pray there, according to an understanding known as the ‘status quo agreement,’ which has existed since Israel captured the Old City of Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967.

Washington burns through $34bn supporting Israel in post-7 October wars: Report

The US has provided Israel with $21.7 billion in military aid since the start of the genocide against Palestinians in Gaza, policy analyst and senior Quincy Institute research fellow William D. Hartung wrote in a paper for the Watson School of International and Public Affairs.

Washington has also spent between $9.65 and $12.07 billion on operations in Yemen “and the wider region sparked by or in support of Israeli military operations” since 7 October 2023, according to a companion report written by Harvard Kennedy School’s Linda Bilmes and cited by Hartung.

In total, the number stands at between $31.35 and $33.77 billion in “two years of post-10/7 wars,” and “does not include the tens of billions of dollars in arms sales agreements that have been committed for weapons and services that will be paid for and delivered in the years to come.”

UN commissioner says Trump’s Gaza plan breaches international law

UN Commissioner Navi Pillay has criticized US President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan for its exclusion of Palestinians from transitional governance, and said a ceasefire proposal does not alter the UN’s finding that Israel is responsible for genocide.

Last week, Trump unveiled the controversial “peace” plan alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The plan has been widely criticized as “colonial thinking“, proposes that Trump will serve alongside former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on a transitional committee that will oversee the strip.

In a wide-ranging interview with Middle East Eye on Monday, Pillay, an eminent South African judge who chairs the UN commission of inquiry that concluded Israel is committing a genocide in Gaza, said that “the conclusion of the commission still stands: Israel has committed genocide and is continuing to do so,” she told the Expert Witness podcast (continue reading here).
