Gaza’s children face genetic harm ‘for generations to come’ from Israel’s genocide

Over the past two decades, research into historic famines and traumas – from the Holocaust to the Great Chinese Famine and the Rwandan genocide – has shown that such suffering leaves lasting genetic imprints.

While starvation, stress and trauma do not mutate DNA, they still mark it with chemical changes that affect how genes are expressed, without altering the underlying sequence, a process known as epigenetics, where the weight of war is passed down across generations.

“Studies show that stress hormones in the mothers affect the babies’ bodies and brains,” said Professor Tessa Roseboom, a biologist at the University of Amsterdam who led research on the Dutch famine’s genetic impact (continue reading here).

Gaza’s health sector in dire straits: MOH statement

What is happening in the Gaza Strip is not a humanitarian crisis, or merely a passing description of the Israeli occupation’s long record of crimes.

Rather, it is a complete and deliberate collapse of the foundation of human existence, represented by the health services system, which has been subjected to devastating and fatal attacks over the past 730 days, striking at the very heart of the service and its infrastructure.

These crimes have earned the description “health genocide” due to the catastrophic indicators that have ravaged the health and humanitarian landscape in the Gaza Strip. Observers and decision-makers in international health and humanitarian institutions are now concerned about the success of emergency responses that maintain a minimum level of service.

Hospitals have been transformed into concrete structures as a result of direct and indirect military strikes, completely emptied of the components of diagnostic and therapeutic care. Through this, and after two years of genocidal warfare, the Ministry of Health indicates the following:

  • The number of martyred medical personnel has reached 1,701 martyrs, and 362 detainees are being held in conditions of detention, enforced disappearance, and deprivation of their human rights.
  • Out of 38 hospitals, 25 are out of service, while 13 hospitals are still operating partially and in difficult conditions. The occupation has also destroyed 103 primary healthcare centers out of 157, while 54 centers are operating partially.
  • The closure of the crossing to the movement of patients and wounded has deprived 18,000 patients from traveling abroad for treatment, including 5,580 children.
  • The direct targeting of health facilities has destroyed electrical and electromechanical systems. The occupation destroyed 25 of the 35 oxygen generating stations and 61 of the 110 electrical generators.

Qatar says Israel should have already ceased fire under Trump plan for Gaza

Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesman said on Tuesday that Israel should have ceased operations in Gaza already in line with US President Donald Trump’s peace plan. Israel has killed over 100 Palestinians since the statements were made.

“We await the outcomes of the negotiations in the coming days regarding the ceasefire. This question should be directed first to the Israeli occupation government. It was supposed to actually cease fire if the statements made by the prime minister there regarding adherence to the Trump plan were true,” Majed al-Ansari told reporters in Doha.

UN ready to surge humanitarian aid to Gaza once it gets ‘green light’

United Nations officials are in touch with mediators trying to end the war on Gaza and will get aid into the enclave as soon as they get the “green light”, says UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

“We’ve been ready and the machinery is cranked up and ready to go as soon as we get the green light,” he said.

“There are many thousands of metric tons in the pipeline of goods ready to enter” from Jordan, the Israeli port of Ashdod, and elsewhere, Dujarric added.

‘We are coming’: Next wave of aid activists plan to reach Gaza by Friday

The Conscience is one of nine vessels on the way to Gaza. The Conscience is specifically dedicated to healthcare and media workers under fire in Gaza, a spokesperson said.

“We have dozens of each on this boat. These two professions are targeted in Gaza,” she said, adding, “and we are sailing here to say to the world that this must end. The world must rise up and ensure that it ends by sanctioning Israel.”

She also addressed the people of Gaza: “You are not alone. We are coming. We are trying to reach you.”

171 flotilla activists deported from Israel after days of detention, abuse

Several deported activists said they were beaten during interrogation, deprived of food and water for extended periods, and forced to kneel or stand in stress positions for hours.

Others described being stripped, groped, and threatened with further violence, recounting what they called systematic sexual humiliation and psychological abuse aimed at breaking their morale.

Many described being locked in cages, threatened with dogs and weapons, and made to watch videos of Hamas’s 7 October 2023 operation.

Female detainees said guards forcibly removed their hijabs, while others reported theft and forced confessions under duress.

Israeli report warns of isolation, financial deficit if Trump’s Gaza Plan fails

An Israeli economic study has warned of severe repercussions for the country’s economy if the US President Donald Trump’s ceasefire plan is not implemented and the war in Gaza continues.

The report, published by the Aharon Institute for Economic Policy at Reichman University and cited by the business daily Calcalist, outlined three possible scenarios. It warned that a full occupation of Gaza would result in “international isolation, a massive financial deficit, and a sharp decline in living standards.” Continuing “hostilities” without a settlement, it added, would also exact a heavy economic toll.

According to the study, only the implementation of Trump’s 21-point plan* could put Israel “back on the right path” by halting the fighting and stabilizing the economy.

*NOTE: While some earlier reports referenced a 21-point plan, the finalized proposal contains 20 points. Netanyahu reportedly demanded the removal of one item: a pledge that Israel would not annex the West Bank.

Israel’s Systematic Crimes Against Palestinian Detainees

Two years into Israel’s genocidal war on Gaza and its broader assault across Palestinian territories, prisoner advocacy institutions have released a detailed fact sheet exposing the scale of atrocities committed inside Israeli prisons and military detention camps.

The report, jointly issued by the Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs, the Palestinian Prisoners’ Society, and Ad-Dameer Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association, documents how the machinery of genocide has extended into incarceration, where torture, starvation, and execution have become institutionalized (continue reading here).
