Palestinians will be pushing the envelope in January as they apply for full membership in the United Nations. The body has shown sympathy and support for the Palestinian plight, but the US has, through its Security Council veto, thwarted every effort to do anything constructive for the people.
The UN Security Council is meeting Thursday, 25 January, to discuss implementation of UN resolutions on the Palestinian questions. On 22 February, they will also discuss the occupation and the UNRWA situation, which has become dire since the US decided to slash its contribution.
Israel has desperately sought to be legitimized by the UN, while it has done its utmost to de-legitimize the UN. Now it wants a Security Council seat.
