NYT, Wash. Post, & CNN are examples of the selective amnesia from which nearly every MSM news source seems to suffer when it comes to the subject of Israel.
FAIR (Fairness and Accuracy in Media) reports that mainstream news reports are getting it wrong on Israel/Palestine. Sources that are otherwise accurate and reliable – WaPo, CNN, NYT, and AP – continue their routine of mis- and under-reporting Israel’s violence while exaggerating Palestinian misconduct.
Reuters, the Associated Press, the New York Times can’t seem to say “Palestinians protest nonviolently; Israeli soldiers kill them.” Headlines from the region consistently misrepresent the situation as two equal sides – or worse, as Palestinian aggressors inciting Israel to return fire. Words matter.
How western media cover Gaza: Show a close up of Palestinians’ raised fists and open mouths and angry faces and raised flags – they are threatening, aren’t they?: violent, dangerous, and menacing. Make sure the frame of your camera is quite tight. Don’t ever open the frame to show 100 Israeli sharpshooters nearby firing live ammunition at thousands of defenseless and unarmed civilians protesting the systemic theft of their homeland…
Retired Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson had a piece in the New York Times on Monday, in which he discussed the parallels between the runup to the Iraq war and the direction things are going with Iran. He identified the source of pro-war analysis as the Foundation for Defense of Democracies – but stopped short of explaining that this organization is “the neoconservative wing of the Israel lobby.” The next day, in another interview, he was eager to talk about this connection. Does NYT self-censor?
