PBS stations around the US were scheduled to show a riveting new Frontline documentary, “One Day in Gaza,” but at the last minute the plug was pulled. While significant context is missing, the film includes clips important for Americans to see – including a young, unarmed teen being shot in her head. Israeli soldiers have shot 7,000 demonstrators in Gaza over the past year with live ammunition. A top UN official warns that 1,700 of them have shattered limbs that may need to be amputated if Gaza doesn’t receive emergency medical help. Already, over 120 people have had arms or legs amputated, including 20 children.

The New York Times – most notably columnist Thomas Friedman – acknowledges that current policies and practices in Israel/Palestine are now and have been for decades a form of apartheid, yet for some unspecified reason, the paper has stated for twenty years merely that the region is “at risk of” becoming an apartheid state. In spite of profuse evidence from experts around the world and from Israel’s own legislation, NYT refuses to state the obvious.

Among the many state and local orgs that work in the shadows for Israel is the Virginia-Israel Advisory Board (VIAB), funded by Virginia taxpayers. VIAB’s main objective is to provide preferential and unconditional funding to oftentimes secretive Israeli business projects designed to entwine Israeli industries into Virginia industries and government. VIAB is currently being scrutinized by the state Attorney General over its handling of government funds.
