Granddaughter of former VP candidate Joe Lieberman moves to Israel

Lieberman, who attended Jewish day schools, has regularly visited Israel with her family. “I’ve wanted to make Aliyah ever since my 8th grade school trip, and am overjoyed to have finally accomplished that goal! ….. Jews have been praying for a return to Israel for millennia, and I’m fortunate enough to live in a time when such a return is possible. Why would I live anywhere else? Israel is my home.”

The heads of Jerusalem’s Christian churches decided on Sunday to close the Church of the Holy Sepulcher until further notice, in a protest against Israeli government legislation that would allow the state to tax churches, and to seize assets and property. Church leaders see the move as a flagrant attempt to “weaken the Christian presence in Jerusalem.” Many church bank accounts have already been frozen.

In her letter of resignation from the presidency of the Modern Language Association, Dr. Margaret Ferguson eloquently reprimands her colleagues for allowing the passage of a resolution that prohibits academic boycott of Israeli scholars. Ferguson points to firsthand experience in Israel-Palestine, echoes the words of another former MLA president, Edward Said, and scarcely restrains herself from naming names of those who tipped the vote, as she declares her membership “a burden” that she chooses to “relinquish.”
