On the ground in Gaza City
Close to one million Palestinians are believed to be in Gaza City, where Israeli tanks have been pushing closer to the city’s center this week.
“We are facing a bitter, bitter situation, to die at home or leave and die somewhere else; as long as this war continues, survival is uncertain,” Rabah Abu Elias, a 67-year-old father of seven, told the Reuters news agency.
“In the news, they speak about a possible truce. On the ground, we only hear explosions and see deaths. To leave Gaza City or not isn’t an easy decision to make.”
Reporting from Gaza City, Al Jazeera correspondent Hani Mahmoud said the Israeli military was repeating a strategy it had used previously in Gaza, “targeting densely populated neighborhoods to depopulate them”.

ISRAELI ARMY DESTROYS DISPLACEMENT CAMP, LEAVING HUNDREDS HOMELESS: The Israeli army reportedly destroyed a camp that housed around 200 displaced families in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza on Thursday. Israeli army issued an immediate evacuation order to some camp residents via phone calls, who had no time to move their possessions. Tents and belongings were destroyed; the families are now homeless and destitute.
ISRAEL WEIGHS CUTTING WATER SUPPLY TO NORTHERN GAZA TO PUSH PALESTINIANS SOUTH: KAN, Israel’s public broadcaster, reported Thursday. that Netanyahu’s government is weighing cuts to water sent to the north while working to fix two direct pipelines into southern Gaza. The reported step comes as Israel faces accusations of weaponizing thirst in its genocide on Gaza alongside hunger and restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries.
ISRAEL ORDERS MEDICS TO PREPARE FOR EVACUATION OF NORTHERN GAZA: The Israeli army said Thursday it began making “initial warning calls” to medical institutions and international organizations in northern Gaza to prepare for the evacuation of Palestinians from Gaza City to the south, as part of a plan to reoccupy the city. The Gaza Ministry of Health responded that such a move would deprive more than one million people of their right to medical care and put residents’ lives at serious risk.

At least 83% of Gaza dead were civilians, Israeli army database suggests
Data from an internal Israeli intelligence database indicates that at least 83 percent of Palestinians killed in Israel’s onslaught on Gaza were civilians, an investigation by +972 Magazine, Local Call, and the Guardian can reveal.
Figures obtained from the classified database — which records the deaths of militants from Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) — contradict by a huge margin the public statements of Israeli army and government officials throughout the war, which have generally claimed a 1:1 or 2:1 ratio of civilian to militant casualties. Instead, the classified data backs up the findings of several studies suggesting Israel’s bombardment of Gaza has killed civilians at a rate with few parallels in modern warfare.
The Israeli army confirmed the existence of the database, which is managed by the Military Intelligence Directorate (known by the Hebrew acronym “Aman”). Multiple intelligence sources familiar with the database said the army views it as the only authoritative tally of militant casualty figures. In the words of one of them: “There’s no other place to check” (continue reading here).

Hamas agrees to major concessions; Israel ignores offer, moves ahead with Gaza City assault
After a series of meetings with a range of Palestinian political leaders, parties and factions, Hamas formally agreed last week to a series of major concessions in the Gaza ceasefire negotiations, according to a copy of the framework obtained by Drop Site News.
Until now, Israel has not responded to the proposed agreement. Instead, it moved forward with a mobilization of 60,000 reserve troops in what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised will be a massive ground invasion of Gaza City aimed at ethnically cleansing nearly a million Palestinians from the north of the enclave.
“Netanyahu’s disregard for the mediators’ proposal, and his failure to respond, confirms that he is the real obstacle to any agreement and that he does not care about the lives of his captives nor is he serious about retrieving them,” Hamas said in a statement Wednesday night” (continue reading here).
On Thursday evening, Benjamin Netanayhu announced during a visit to Israeli soldiers, “We are in the decision-making stage. I have come to the Gaza division today to approve the plans…for the takeover of Gaza City and the defeat of Hamas … At the same time, I have instructed to begin immediate negotiations on the release of all our hostages and the end of the war on terms acceptable to Israel. These two things – the defeat of Hamas and the release of all our hostages – go hand in hand.”

ISRAEL CLAIMS ARCHEOLOGICAL SITES IN PALESTINE AS “ISRAELI”: The Israeli army has declared 63 Palestinian archaeological sites in the West Bank as “Israeli heritage sites,” a Palestinian research institute said Wednesday, in a clear violation of international law and a blatant breach of international obligations. It added that this step is part of “reshaping Palestinian heritage identity to serve the Israeli narrative, especially since most of the targeted sites are located near Israeli outposts, settlements or other colonial sites.”

21 foreign ministers to condemn plan for illegal West Bank settlement
The decision by the Israeli Higher Planning Committee to approve plans for settlement construction in the E1 area, East of Jerusalem, is unacceptable and a violation of international law.
We condemn this decision and call for its immediate reversal in the strongest terms.
Minister Smotrich says this plan will make a two-state solution impossible by dividing any Palestinian state and restricting Palestinian access to Jerusalem. This brings no benefits to the Israeli people. Instead, it risks undermining security and fuels further violence and instability, taking us further away from peace.
The signatories:
Foreign ministers of Australia, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom; High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Vice-President of the European Commission

US reviewing records of all 55M visa holders for possible deportable violations
“Prohibiting entry to the United States by those who might pose a threat to U.S. national security or public safety is key to protecting U.S. citizens at home,” a State Department spokesperson said in response to a question from Anadolu, noting that the department’s “continuous vetting includes all of the more than 55 million foreigners who currently hold valid U.S. visas.”
The spokesperson said the State Department under the Trump administration is revoking visas “in cases where a foreign visitor overstays their lawful period of admission, engages in criminal activity, provides material support to a terrorist organization, or otherwise violates U.S. law.”
The move comes as the administration intensifies its crackdown on immigrants and foreign students*, including those who joined pro-Palestine campus protests.
