ISRAEL-US WAR ON IRAN – NEWS & HEADLINES:

It can not be overemphasized that Israel has been the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran for years. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

The American people have made clear that they do not want to go to war with Iran, but Israel partisans and the Israel lobby use their massive political clout to bring about whatever is beneficial to Israel – including putting the US military in harm’s way. For more background on Israel’s role in American wars, watch IAK’s short film, “The Israeli Hit List.”

Iran rejects temporary ceasefire, sends proposal on ending war: Iran has reportedly rejected a temporary ceasefire, calling instead for a permanent resolution. Their 10-point proposal includes demands such as an end to hostilities in the region, a framework to ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, reconstruction, and the lifting of sanctions. President Trump described Iran’s response to a US peace proposal as a “significant step” though still falling short, with the Tuesday 8 pm EDT looming.

Netanyahu urges Trump against Iran ceasefire: Report: Israeli premier warns of risks of truce while Trump says ceasefire possible if Tehran meets US demands, including handing over enriched uranium, US media say.

WHO warns of catastrophic risks after strike on Bushehr nuclear plant: Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu said he shares the concerns of the International Atomic Energy Agency regarding the safety of nuclear facilities in Iran. He stressed that any attack on a nuclear site could trigger a nuclear accident with long-term and far-reaching health consequences. “The recent attack on the Bushehr nuclear plant is a stark reminder,” Tedros said.

Trump claims, without proof, Iranians welcome US strikes on infrastructure: Trump claimed that intercepted communications in Iran said, “Please keep bombing.” He added, “These are people that are living where the bombs are exploding.” He insisted they would be “willing to suffer” the loss of power and basic services in order to achieve freedom from the Islamic Republic.

Trump hails rescue of airmen as proof Iran is losing: Hegseth says Iran is ‘humiliated’ after Tehran shot down an F-15 and forced the American military engage in operation under fire, losing multiple assets.

US-Israeli strikes hit Iran’s most prominent tech university, target AI infrastructure: US and Israeli strikes have hit Iran’s Sharif University of Technology in Tehran (SUT), known as the “MIT of Iran,” the country’s leading technological and engineering university, damaging key facilities and targeting Iran’s national artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure on 3 April.

US-Israeli strikes ‘completely destroy’ synagogue in Tehran: Footage released by local media outlets appeared to show rescue workers looking through the rubble of the building, with Hebrew liturgical texts strewn on the ground. Israel and the US have yet to comment on the strike, which comes during the Jewish holiday of Passover.

Planet Labs enforces indefinite blackout on Iran war imagery at White House request: The move stifles independent verification of Iranian damage to US assets, framed by Washington as a measure to protect ‘vulnerable military positions.’

‘They want to create a rift’: Israeli attacks deepen Lebanon fissures: Lebanon is becoming increasingly divided between those who blame Israel for relentlessly attacking Lebanon since October 2023, and those who blame Hezbollah for drawing Israeli wrath. The latter have often taken out their anger on members of the internally displaced community. Many displaced people have said they are being discriminated against, regardless of whether they support Hezbollah.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Ben Gvir raids Al-Aqsa as Israel plans to reopen mosque to settler incursions*: Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir raided Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem on Monday while Muslims remain barred, as police reportedly prepare a plan to admit up to 150 Israelis or Muslims at a time, which has drawn widespread criticism from Palestinian bodies, which would place Ben Gvir in effective control of the mosque’s affairs,

*NOTE: Anyone can visit the Al Aqsa Mosque grounds, but only Muslims are allowed to pray there, according to an understanding known as the ‘status quo agreement,’ under which, since 1967, Israel has formally pledged to allow Muslims to pray at the site, while Jews pray at the Western Wall below.

In practice, however, restrictions have steadily eroded, particularly since 2023 (after extremist Itamar Ben Gvir became Minister of National Security). Many Palestinians fear this erosion will lead to open conflict.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

ISRAELI MEDIA: ‘Israel Presses on With Occupation, Annexation’: Palestinians Warn of Neglect Amid Iran War: While the Israel-U.S. coalition is at war with Iran, the future of Gaza remains unclear. ‘If there was some degree of international pressure before the war with Iran, now no one is paying attention and Israel is continuing on its course.’

The Democratic Party debate over Hasan Piker is really a fight over Palestine’s new place in U.S. politics: The moral panic over Hasan Piker’s involvement with the Democratic Party is really about Palestine’s growing influence in U.S. politics. While Israel supporters might want to ban him and Palestine from the discourse, they’ve already lost the fight.

Chapman University reportedly adopts IHRA definition* of antisemitism: A spokesman for the private school told a reporter that the school considers the “definition and accompanying illustrative examples to the extent it may be useful in a particular case.”

*NOTE: Pro-Israel organizations consistently work to silence Palestine advocacy on campus and elsewhere, violating the right of free speech. One strategy they use is to pressure institutions to officially adopt the IHRA “definition” of antisemitism, which defines legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitic. Read more about the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) working definition of antisemitism, which curtails legitimate criticism of Israel, here and here.
