Shams was just playing football, but for Israeli occupation soldiers that’s enough to detain, arrest, beat, and threaten to kill an 11-year-old child – and it’s not just a fluke: CPT suggests that Israel is trying to “traumatize a generation.”

In a 4-hour raid on a Palestinian village, Israeli soldiers shot teenager Odai Salah in the head with an expanding bullet, killing him, shot several others, stormed and ransacked homes, and threatened members of the Palestinian press.
Odai’s father stated, “The whole Palestinian people is like Odai. Killings have become daily, they happen in a monstrous way. We no longer have any dreams in this country.”
Nides did not mention the 49 Gazans, among them 17 children, killed by Israeli missile strikes in those “relatively calm” three days in August. (Nides is a lifelong Israel partisan who was a top executive at a firm that helped precipitate the 2007–08 financial crisis)
While he was working on his land, a group of Israeli settlers armed with sticks, metal pipes, and M16s attacked Hafez Huraini and his son Muhammad. Hafez was badly injured, and both of his arms were broken. When a Palestinian ambulance arrived to evacuate him, the settlers slashed the tires, but the Israeli soldiers arrested Huraini, claiming he had hurt one of the settlers.
Two more Palestinian young men were killed near Jenin, a a city in the occupied West Bank where Israel has staged many violent invasions in recent weeks, bringing the total killed this month to ten. An Israeli soldier also died – the first Israeli killed since May 5th. At least 83 Palestinians have been killed during that time.
Yair Lapid’s brazen demand for impunity for the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh is a disturbing reflection of the US-Israeli relationship.
