ISRAEL-US WAR ON IRAN – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Why is If Americans Knew covering the war on Iran? It can not be overemphasized that Israel has been the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran for years. This is especially true right now, under Donald Trump. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades.

The American people have made clear that they do not want to go to war with Iran, but Israel partisans and the Israel lobby use their massive political clout to bring about whatever is beneficial to Israel – including putting the US military in harm’s way. For more background on Israel’s role in American wars, watch IAK’s short film, “The Israeli Hit List.”

Israel launches strikes on Iranian nuclear sites: Israel reportedly hit a uranium processing facility, two of Iran’s largest steel factories, and various locations around the state – allegedly in coordination with the US. On X, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vowed revenge, adding that the attack “contradicts POTUS (US President Donald Trump) extended deadline for diplomacy.” Trump had said Thursday that the US would delay hitting Iran’s energy infrastructure until April 6.

IAEA warns of radioactive leak risk at Iran’s Bushehr nuclear plant: International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi warned that any damage to Iran’s Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant could cause a severe accident leading to a radioactive leak that would affect a vast area both inside and outside the country.

OPINION: To End the Iran War, Trump Must Divorce Israel: The Trump administration misunderstands the nature of the problem. To end the war, it needs to get tough not with America’s adversary, but with its cobelligerent: Israel. As Curt Mills, executive director of The American Conservativesaid Tuesday on a podcast, “This war is not going to end until President Trump says no to Israel.”

Houthis warn ‘fingers on the trigger’ as US-Israel war on Iran continues: The Iran-aligned Yemeni group have the ability to target key shipping lanes around the Arabian Peninsula.

303 US troops reportedly wounded in Iran war, majority suffering from brain injuries: 10 are still in critical condition, and 273 have returned to duty.

US military assets worth billions damaged or lost in Iran war: Report: Billions of dollars in US military equipment have reportedly been damaged or destroyed since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran, mostly due to Iranian missile and drone attacks, Losses in the first three weeks of the conflict are estimated at $1.4 billion to $2.9 billion.

ISRAEL’S WAR ON LEBANON – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Although Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in November 2024, Israel has attacked Lebanon almost every day since, committing over 10,000 air and ground violations – the most violated ceasefire deal in recorded history – and killing over 300. 80,000 residents remain displaced and unable to return home.

Additionally, Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest war, and other Lebanese areas it has held for decades. (Read about UNIFIL, the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, here.)

Lebanon faces ‘humanitarian catastrophe’ under Israeli assault: UN: More than 1.2 million people have been forced from their homes in the past weeks, a UN spokesperson said on Friday, and Lebanon’s already overstretched shelter system is struggling to meet families’ needs. “The families are … living in constant fear, and the psychological toll, particularly on children, will last far beyond this current escalation.”

Medic killed as Israeli drone hits ambulance in south Lebanon: Lebanon says attack violates international law.

Israel plans to occupy at least 10% of Lebanese territory*: Israel reportedly plans to establish a “buffer zone” extending
up to the Litani River, potentially encompassing around 10% of Lebanese territory. PM Netanyahu recently explained the move benignly: “We are simply creating a larger buffer zone.”

*NOTE: The area south of the Litani River is internationally recognized as sovereign Lebanese territory. Any occupation of this area by Israel is a violation of Lebanon’s sovereignty. Some in the Netanyahu administration are calling for permanent annexation of the territory, but the UN Charter and principles of international law prohibit states from acquiring territory through war or force.

‘We Must Act Now’: Tlaib Introduces Pair of Bills to Block US Support For Israel’s Lebanon Invasion: The first calls on the US to use its leverage to end Israel’s land and air assaults against Lebanese territory, denounce efforts at territorial expansion, and investigate alleged crimes against humanity. The second is a war powers resolution that would require Trump to remove US forces from participation in all military actions in Lebanon that have not been authorized by Congress.

DEATH TOLL – WAR ON LEBANON (tentative):
  • In Lebanon, at least 1,142 people have been killed (121 children and 81 women), and 53 healthcare workers).

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. For background on the West Bank, read this and thisFor information on the significance of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, read this and this.)

Israel kills 3 Palestinians in West Bankone a teen: Israeli forces shot and killed two Palestinian men just hours apart, on Friday, after invading the Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem. Israeli forces reportedly shot Mustafa Asaad Mustafa Hamad, 22, who later died of his wounds. A short time later, 46-year-old Sufian Ahmad Saleh Abu Leil succumbed to a critical gunshot wound to the head. On Friday evening, Israeli soldiers killed 15‑year‑old Adham Sayyed Saleh Dahman  in the Dheisheh refugee camp, south of Bethlehem in the occupied West Bank.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that “in two different incidents over the past day,” troops operating near the central West Bank’s Qalandiya refugee camp opened fire on “key instigators” of “disturbances that included hurling of stones at the forces.”

“Hits were identified. There are no casualties to our forces,” the IDF said.

The military did not immediately comment on the death of 15-year-old Adham Dahman south of Bethlehem.

Rubio says US ‘concerned*’ by settler violence: Asked about settler violence on Friday, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio responded, “We’re concerned about that” and notes that US President Donald Trump has previously expressed his opposition last year “against any sort of change in the status quo in the West Bank.”

*NOTE: What does Trump “concern” look like? Two American citizens, Awdah Al-Hathaleen and Nasrallah Abu Siyam, were killed by Israeli settlers during the second Trump administration, but the president did not even acknowledge their deaths. The State Department did little more than send condolences. It seems unlikely that Trump would be concerned about Palestinians when he has so little regard for Palestinian-Americans.

Israel continues to bar Muslims from Friday prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque for 4th straight week: Police keep mosque’s gates closed and deploy forces across Jerusalem’s Old City to prevent worshippers from entering, citing ’emergency measures’ related to Iran war as reason.

Israeli Policies Threaten Future of Christian Schools in Jerusalem: Administrators, church officials, and parents say the measures are part of a broader campaign to weaken Palestinian institutions in the city by forcing Christian schools to abandon their independent curricula and submit to direct Israeli political control.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.)
