(It is difficult to characterize the current situation in Gaza a “ceasefire,” when Israel has killed nearly 100 Palestinians. If Americans Knew considers Tuesday to be Day 753 of Israel’s war on Gaza)
At least 104 Palestinians have been killed by Israel in the last 24 hours, including at least 46 children and 20 women.
Since the “ceasefire” went into effect on October 11, Israel has reportedly killed at least 211 Palestinians and injured 597 others (including the most recent massacre), and violated the truce agreement at least 125 times (not including the most recent massacre).
Additional statistics below.

This is a developing story. Below are parts of some reports from various sources on Israel’s massacre.
Israel says Gaza ceasefire back on after strikes kill more than 100
Israel’s attack hit dozens of what Israel called targets in the most serious threat yet to the truce partly brokered by President Donald Trump.
More than 104 Palestinian people were killed, including more than 46 children and 20 women, since Tuesday night in Israel’s deadly strikes. Over 250, including more than 70 children, were also injured. The death toll is expected to rise.
The strikes reportedly “targeted homes, tents and gatherings in various cities,” with heavy shelling.
Why the sudden escalation?
An official from the Israel Defense Forces told NBC News that the command to carry out the strikes was a result of Hamas allegedly attacking soldiers in the southern Gaza area of Rafah in an Israeli-controlled area. NBC News could not independently verify the claim. One IDF soldier, an American citizen, was allegedly killed.
Hamas denied any involvement in the incident, calling Israel’s strikes a “flagrant violation” of the ceasefire deal as the group urged mediators to step in and pressure Israel to halt its attacks.
Israel had previously accused Hamas of a similar attack in Rafah that saw two soldiers killed earlier this month, with the militant group also denying involvement at the time.
Israel ignores its own violations, threatens further violations
The IDF said it had struck “dozens of terror targets and killed 30 [fighters]” in the strikes, adding it had “begun the renewed enforcement of the cease-fire in response to Hamas’ violations,” per the instructions of the Israeli government. [NOTE: even if Israel did kill 30 fighters, the cost was at least 46 children and 20 women.]
IDF Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said Tuesday that “the war is not yet over.” According to Zamir, “If Hamas fails to uphold its commitments, it will carry the responsibility and pay a heavy price. We will continue to act with force, belief and responsibility. Many challenges are still ahead of us.”
Hamas had previously issued a press release saying it “has no relation to the shooting incident in Rafah and reaffirms its commitment to the cease-fire agreement.”
How far will Israel go in its “response”?
A US source told Israel Hayom that although it is clear Hamas breached the ceasefire on the issue of the hostages and fired at an IDF force in the southern strip, an excessively severe Israeli response would stop the entire process toward ending the war [NOTE: Netanyahu would likely welcome a continuation of the war].
The Prime Minister’s Office published the following statement after the call: “After the security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military echelon to carry out immediate powerful strikes in the Gaza Strip.” A laconic, general statement that reflects the tension with the Americans.
Israel’s recent wave of attacks on Gaza may reflect an attempt by Netanyahu to take control of the narrative in the face of domestic criticism that he was under American control, says Israeli political analyst Akiva Eldar.
Israel is considering further encroaching into areas in the Gaza Strip it had previously withdrawn from and seize further territory in response to Hamas’s violations of the ceasefire on Tuesday, The Jerusalem Post has learned.
An Israeli source warned that “Israel will nibble away” at additional territory currently under Hamas control, adding that the Palestinian terror group “can immediately return a handful of hostage remains” if it chooses to do so.
Trump comment ignores Israel’s violations, uses racist stereotypes
President Donald Trump defended Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decision to order what the prime minister called “forceful” strikes on Hamas targets in Gaza on Tuesday in response to ceasefire violations by the terror group, dismissing concerns that the actions could upend the deal.
“They killed an Israeli soldier, so the Israelis hit back and they should hit back. When that happens, they should hit,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Tuesday evening. “Hamas is a small thing, but they kill people. They grew up killing people, and I guess they don’t stop. Nobody knows what happened to the Israeli soldier, but they say it was sniper-fire and it was retribution for that. I think they have a right to do that.”
“Nothing’s going to jeopardize that [the ceasefire],” he continued. “Hamas is a very small part of peace in the Middle East, and they have to behave. They’re on the rough side, but they said they would be good, and if they’re good, they’re going to be happy. If they’re not good, they’re going to be terminated. Their lives will be terminated, and they understand that.”
Senator’s racism-laced response to Israeli massacre
“You’re going to see a lot of this,” Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) told Jewish Insider of the renewed skirmishes in Gaza. “I mean, the Hamas soldiers are not terribly civilized, and the fact that there’s a ceasefire is of no moment to many of them. You’re periodically going to see them continue to shoot at the Israeli soldiers, and when they do, the Israeli soldiers are going to shoot back and kill them.”
“Eventually the really stupid Hamas members will stop doing it, because they’ll be dead,” the Louisiana senator continued. “But this is gonna happen. I mean, you’re not talking about sane people.”

CRITICAL CONTEXT, missing from most mainstream reporting on the massacre
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu says he has instructed the military to immediately carry out powerful strikes on Gaza, in response to what they are calling Hamas’s ceasefire violations in not handing over the bodies of the remaining 13 captives that are still inside Gaza, and apparently killing an IDF soldier.
CNN reported on October 9th that Israel and the US have been aware for months that “Hamas may not know the location of, or is unable to retrieve, the remains of some of the 28 remaining deceased hostages.”
Yet Israeli leaders have alleged that Hamas is purposely delaying the return of the bodies, and until very recently denied Hamas members access to Israeli-controlled parts of Gaza where some of the bodies are believed to be located, and refused to allow heavy equipment into Gaza to assist in the search.
All that is to say, Israel and the US have been demanding something that they knew was near-impossible.
In fact, Israel has repeatedly violated the terms of the ceasefire – at least 125 times before the massacre:
- All military operations were supposed to be suspended, but Israel has continued them, killing now over 200 Palestinians since the ceasefire began.
- Israel was supposed to restart the full quantity of aid into Gaza (600 trucks a day), along with rehabilitation of infrastructure (water, electricity, sewage), and the rehabilitation of hospitals and bakeries. It has done little to fulfill any of these obligations.
- Israel was supposed to facilitate the entry of necessary equipment to remove rubble and open roads – as well as retrieve hostages’ bodies, not to mention the remains of at least 9,500 Gazans buried in the rubble.
- The Rafah crossing was supposed to be opened in both directions for the entrance of needed aid and exit of medical evacuees – it has not been opened.
BOTTOM LINE: Israel’s ceasefire violations have been lethal and numerous; Hamas’ have been unavoidable or unproven.

US vice president says ‘ceasefire is holding’ despite Israeli airstrikes on Gaza
US Vice President JD Vance on Tuesday said the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip is “holding,” as Israel conducted airstrikes on the Palestinian enclave.
“The president achieved a historic peace in the Middle East, the ceasefire is holding. That doesn’t mean that there aren’t going to be little skirmishes here and there,” Vance told Fox News.

Israel Returns Bodies of 50 Palestinian Hostages, Tortured Beyond Recognition
The Israeli army has handed over the bodies of 50 Palestinian victims it had held since the start of its genocide in Gaza on October 7, 2023. Medical sources said the bodies showed clear signs of torture and abuse.
The latest handover raises the total number of bodies returned by Israel through the Red Cross to 245 since the ceasefire agreement took effect on October 10. All bodies showed signs of torture.

‘Systematic Targeting’: Palestinian Journalist Mohammed al-Munirawi Killed in Gaza
Palestinian journalist Mohammed al-Munirawi, a reporter for Palestine Newspaper, was killed in Gaza, the Government Media Office announced
Gaza remains the deadliest place in the world for media workers, with repeated attacks on press vehicles, offices, and family homes since October 2023.
Since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war, media watchdogs have described Gaza as one of the deadliest places in the world for journalists, with repeated strikes hitting press vehicles, offices, and family homes of reporters across the Strip.
Israel shows desire for ‘permanent military control’ over Gaza
Navi Pillay, chair of the UN Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, says Israeli officials have demonstrated a “clear and consistent intent to establish permanent military control over Gaza and to change its demographic composition”.
“We remain deeply concerned over this issue, as the changes already made to land and borders have not been meaningfully reversed despite the recent ceasefire, and statements by Israeli officials make it clear that objectives of ethnic cleansing and establishment of settlements in the Gaza Strip remain firmly in place,” Pillay told reporters.

3 Palestinians killed in Israeli fire in northern occupied West Bank
Three Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire in Jenin in the northern West Bank on Tuesday: Abdullah Jalamneh, 27; Qais Al-Bitawi, 21; and Ahmad Nasherati, 29, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry.
Israeli forces reportedly raided the town with military reinforcements, surrounded an area of agricultural land, and opened fire on three young men. Eyewitnesses said Israeli forces bombed the vehicle carrying the three men, striking it directly and setting it ablaze.
The Israeli forces seized the bodies of the deceased men.

Katz orders Israeli army to ‘take all necessary measures’ against West Bank resistance
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the military to “take all necessary measures” against “terrorists*” in the occupied West Bank, hours after Tel Aviv assassinated three resistance members near the city of Jenin.
Katz comments and assassinations follow a surge in West Bank resistance activity in response to the continued escalation of Israeli army and settler violence.
The defense minister said Israeli forces “thwarted a serious threat” during an operation carried out early on 28 October in the occupied West Bank.
*NOTE: The use of the word “terrorist” for a group that resists occupation and oppression is a political, not fact-based choice. In reality, international law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power, the UN extending that right to the point of armed resistance.
On October 7th, Hamas was exercising – albeit imperfectly – its internationally recognized right to resist the oppressor and occupier of its people. Hamas fighters attacked Israel after years of oppression and many nonviolent attempts to call attention to the issue. The UN has passed hundreds of resolutions demanding justice – to no avail.
In fact, Israel has been oppressing Palestinians since its creation in 1948, and even before that.

Israel hands out dozens of demolition orders in West Bank village
Israeli forces have raided the Palestinian village of Umm al-Khair in the occupied West Bank and issued dozens of demolition orders for residential homes.
Umm al-Khair has been a frequent target of Israeli demolitions, which have destroyed more than 100 structures since 2007, according to village council head Khalil Hathaleen.
NOTE: Most home demolitions undertaken by Israel are due to Palestinians’ “building without a permit.” Israel admits that its construction permit system is highly discriminatory. Between 2016 and 2020, 99.1 percent of Palestinian requests for building permits were rejected, according to data provided by the IDF’s Civil Administration.
