ISRAEL’S WAR ON LEBANON – NEWS & HEADLINES:

Although Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in November 2024, Israel has attacked Lebanon almost every day since, committing over 10,000 air and ground violations – the most violated ceasefire deal in recorded history – and killing at least 397Additionally, Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest war, and other Lebanese areas it has held for decades. (Read about UNIFIL, the UN peacekeepers in southern Lebanon, here.)

Death toll from Wednesday’s Israeli strikes in Lebanon rises to 303: at least 110 of the dead were children.

UNICEF Says Children “Being Pulled From Under Rubble’ in Lebanon After Israeli Bombardment: The United Nations Children’s Fund warned that Israel’s continued assault on Lebanon “poses a grave risk to the ceasefire and the efforts toward a lasting and comprehensive peace.”

Was Lebanon part of the ceasefire agreement? The official announcement of the agreement described “an immediate ceasefire everywhere including Lebanon,” and the U.S. had seen the text before it was publicly released. The words “including Lebanon,” however, lasted no longer than it took for Netanyahu to talk to Trump immediately before the ceasefire announcement. Trump confirmed Thursday that he told Netanyahu to “low-key it,” appearing to give Israel a green light to immediately violate the ceasefire and put it at risk of collapse (excerpted from The Forever Spoiler: Netanyahu Has Been Blowing Up Diplomacy With Iran for Decades).

Who were the bombing victims? The Lebanese Health Ministry said that at least 110 children, women, and elderly people were among the 303 killed on Wednesday. Dr Salah Zeineldine, American University of Beirut (AUB)’s chief medical officer, said, “All the patients we got were civilians,” Dr Zeineldine said, adding that the attack was “very random”, not targeting any specific place or group of people. Israel had claimed the attacks targeted the Iranian-backed Hezbollah, but the victims, according to Dr Zeineldine, included “lots of children, women, men, elderly people, all kinds of people in the civilian strata”.

ISRAEL-US WAR/CEASEFIRE ON IRAN – NEWS & HEADLINES:

It can not be overemphasized that Israel has been the impetus behind US policies and actions vis-a-vis Iran for years. Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has been pushing the US to attack Iran for decades, using lies and deception. Under President Trump, he got his wish.

The American people have made clear that they do not want to go to war with Iran, but Israel partisans and the Israel lobby use their massive political clout to bring about whatever is beneficial to Israel – including putting the US military in harm’s way. For more background on Israel’s role in American wars, watch IAK’s short film, “The Israeli Hit List.”

Iran Tells Mediators Islamabad Ceasefire Negotiation Meeting Is Conditional on Ceasefire in Lebanon: Iranian mediators have also warned they would continue to carry out attacks on regional countries, including Israel, if attacks on Lebanon and Iran by Israel continue, they said.

The US Knew Iran Ceasefire Deal Included Lebanon

Analysis – How Not to End a War, According to Trump and Netanyahu: The Israel-U.S. cease-fire with Iran has all the hallmarks of bad diplomacy. It is ambiguous, partial, conditional and temporary – with no shared final-status aim.

Army Kills Schoolgirl in Tent Classroom in Northern Gaza: The Palestinian Ministry of Education in Gaza reported that Israeli forces killed a third-grade student, Ritaj Abdul‑Rauf Reehan, 9, on Thursday while she was attending class inside a makeshift tent school in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza.

The ministry described the killing as a “gruesome and shocking crime,” carried out in full view of her classmates. Teachers and students were left in a state of severe psychological trauma as the tent-based learning space turned into a scene of panic and fear.

Two men were also killed by Israeli fire on Thursday.

Israel bombed Gaza on 36 of the past 40 days while the war raged in Iran: Since the declaration of a “ceasefire” in the Gaza Strip six months ago, Israel has violated the agreement thousands of times, with attacks on a nearly daily basis. In addition, It has also closed the Rafah crossing and withheld life‑saving food and medical supplies.

During that time, Israel killed at least 107; evacuated only 8% of the medical cases it had agreed to and permitted only 20% of the food and medical supplies it had committed to in the ceasefire agreement.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM THE OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM:

Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. A total of 448 Israeli occupiers* stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem on Thursday, the first day of its reopening after being closed since Feb. 28. Eyewitnesses said the occupiers entered under heavy escort by Israeli police, adding that the incursions were accompanied by violations, including loud singing, dancing, and performing prayers.

*NOTE: Anyone can visit the Al Aqsa Mosque grounds, but only Muslims are allowed to pray there, according to an understanding known as the ‘status quo agreement,’ under which, since 1967, Israel has formally pledged to allow Muslims to pray at the site, while Jews pray at the Western Wall below.

In practice, however, restrictions have steadily eroded, particularly since 2023 (after extremist Itamar Ben Gvir became Minister of National Security). Many Palestinians fear this erosion will lead to open conflict.

NEWS & HEADLINES FROM ISRAEL:

Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel news accurately. IAK gets the facts – sometimes from Israeli media sites, where we can get a glimpse inside this country that is rife with turmoil and contradictions, and that receives $63 million a day from America.

Shin Bet Chief Does Not View Jewish Attacks on Palestinians as Terror: According to security officials, David Zini has deprioritized the Shin Bet division responsible for tackling right-wing extremism – and even refers to such as incidents as ‘cases of friction’ between Israeli settlers and Palestinians.

In a statement posted on its website on Thursday, the said it carried out a years-long operation against Halevi, gaining access to what it described as “more than 19,000 confidential images and videos from the most secret meetings.”
