Unrelenting danger, unrelenting hunger
Al Jazeera’s Hani Mahmoud, reporting from Gaza City, said Israeli forces appeared to be in the preparatory stage of the expanded invasion, hitting multiple neighborhoods overnight. killing Palestinians as they fled the area. Others were killed by Israeli fire or stampedes as they tried to access the limited aid at the Zikim crossing.
“More people are dying there, either from deliberate Israeli military fire or from the stampede,” Mahmoud said.
He added that there was growing international condemnation of Israel “for creating the humanitarian crisis in Gaza”, but no change on the ground.
“They gave permission for some aid trucks to enter Gaza, to create a media buzz that there is food coming in,” he said. “But that has nothing to do with what’s going on … more people are still dying on a daily basis of enforced starvation.”

‘Millions of dollars’ of Gaza aid stranded in warehouses as Israel rejects NGO requests for entry
The Israeli authorities have rejected requests from dozens of NGOs for life-saving aid to enter the Gaza Strip, leaving “millions of dollars” worth of goods – including 744 tons of rice – stranded in warehouses, over 100 organizations have reported. The blocked food is reportedly enough for six million meals.
A statement signed by NGOs, including Doctors Without Borders (MSF) and Save the Children, reported that Israel had denied the requests on the grounds that the organizations were “not authorized to deliver aid”, despite many of them having worked in Gaza for decades.
Consequently, millions of dollars worth of food, medicine, water and shelter equipment is currently languishing in warehouses across Jordan and Egypt, while Israeli-imposed starvation grips Gaza – killing over 200 Palestinians so far, half of them children (continue reading here).
CATHOLIC CHARITY BANNED FROM BRINGING AID TO GAZA: Catholic Relief Services, a US-based Christian aid agency with decades of experience operating in conflict zones, was stripped of its authorization under new Israeli regulations targeting international NGOs that support Palestinians. The announcement, issued by Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, follows the introduction of sweeping laws in March that enable the government to revoke the permits of groups accused—often without evidence—of “delegitimizing” Israel or associating with banned organizations.

Israeli assault on Gaza City’s destroys 300 homes, kills entire families
The Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City has faced continuous bombardment and demolitions since Tuesday. Civil Defense officials said entire families were killed when their homes were blown up without warning using high-explosive bombs that also leveled surrounding buildings.
They added that rescue crews have been blocked from reaching the wounded or recovering bodies, worsening the humanitarian situation.
The assault comes as Israel’s military chief approved plans to fully seize Gaza, starting with Gaza City.

Gaza will be run by 15 Palestinian technocrats if ceasefire reached: Egypt
As ceasefire talks are again underway in Cairo, Egypt’s foreign minister said that when a ceasefire is reached, the administration of Gaza “will be undertaken by 15 Palestinian technocrats under the PA supervision for a temporary period of six months, with an emphasis on the (administrative) unity between Gaza and the West Bank.”
The top diplomat, however, did not provide any further details.
“The main goal is to return to the original proposal, a 60-day cease-fire, along with the release of some captives and some Palestinian prisoners, and the entry of humanitarian and medical aid into Gaza without obstacles or conditions,” the minister said.
According to Israeli media, the proposal suggests a 60-day ceasefire, during which Israeli hostages will be returned in phases, in exchange for some Palestinian hostages and the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave (continue reading here).

NOTABLE QUOTE:
Tlaleng Mofokeng and Francesca Albanese, special rapporteurs on the right to health and Palestinian human rights, comment on the targeted destruction of Gaza’s healthcare system by the Israel Defense Forces:
As human beings and UN experts, we cannot remain silent about the war crimes committed before our eyes in Gaza.
In addition to bearing witness to an ongoing genocide we are also bearing witness to a ‘medicide,’ a sinister component of the intentional creation of conditions calculated to destroy Palestinians in Gaza which constitutes an act of genocide.
Targeting healthcare facilities and personnel is a violation of international humanitarian law. The Geneva Conventions and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights emphasize the need to protect civilians and healthcare workers during armed conflicts. International law recognizes the right to health and obligates states to respect, protect, and fulfill it.

NYT: Israel Hasn’t Prosecuted a Single Suspect for the Oct. 7 Attack
It has been almost two years since the Palestinian militant group Hamas led the deadliest attack on Israel in the country’s history.
Not a single person has been charged or prosecuted for it and the entire subject is shrouded in secrecy.
Palestinians and rights groups say Israel has systematically violated the detainees’ rights by holding them without charge or trial* in harsh conditions**, with limited access to legal counsel. Sweeping gag orders keep most details of their cases under wraps and for most of these detainees, there is no trace of them in any public records*** – stripping them of fundamental rights, according to one of their lawyers (continue reading here).
*NOTE: Prisoners held without charge, trial, or access to lawyers are referred to as administrative detainees. Administrative detention is intended to be used only in “exceptional” circumstances. Neither the administrative detainees, who include women and children, nor their lawyers are allowed to see the “secret evidence” that Israeli forces say form the basis for their arrests. Read more here.
**Israel is currently holding thousands of Palestinian prisoners in inhumane conditions where many are systematically tortured. Israel has used torture consistently since at least 1968. In the case of Gazan prisoners since October 7th, many were restrained so tightly for so long, that they required amputation of limbs; others were sodomized with burning hot objects.
***Addameer, the Palestinian NGO dedicated to monitoring the treatment of Palestinian prisoners, was declared by Israel to be a terrorist organization in June 2025 (a move criticized by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch) and its informative website shut down.

Pax Christi priest denied entry to Israel, deported
Father Nandino Capovilla, priest of the Diocese of Venice and former National Coordinator of Pax Christi Italia, arrived in Israel on August 11 for a pilgrimage, but, according to a spokesman, Father Capovilla “was denied entry into Israel at Tel Aviv airport because, according to the Israeli authorities, “considerations of public security, public safety or public order” weighed against him, making him a dangerous person.”
After his release, Fr Nandino wrote:
I AM FREE! They just let me out. They returned my phone and suitcase.
BUT PLEASE: TELL ANYONE WHO WRITES ABOUT THIS THAT ONE LINE IS ENOUGH TO SAY THAT I AM OKAY, WHILE ALL OTHER WORDS SHOULD BE USED TO CALL FOR SANCTIONS AGAINST THE STATE THAT, BY MISTAKE, BOMBS MOSQUES AND CHURCHES, WHILE IT CONTINUES TO PRETEND THAT ITS ATROCITIES ARE JUST EXAGGERATIONS.
I DO NOT AUTHORIZE ANY JOURNALIST TO INTERVIEW ME ABOUT MY SEVEN HOURS OF DETENTION UNLESS THEY WRITE ABOUT THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE BEEN PRISONERS ON THEIR OWN LAND FOR SEVENTY YEARS.

Netanyahu’s ‘Greater Israel’ fantasy a ‘threat’ to Jordan’s sovereignty
Netanyahu told news channel i24 on Tuesday that he feels “very attached” to the vision of Greater Israel. He said he considers himself “on a historic and spiritual mission” that “generations of Jews that dreamt of coming here and generations of Jews who will come after us.”
Greater Israel is a Biblical term used in Israeli politics to refer to the expansion of Israel’s territory to include the West Bank, Gaza, Syria’s Golan Heights, Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula and parts of Jordan.
The Jordanian Foreign Ministry called Netanyahu’s comments “a dangerous and provocative escalation, a threat to the sovereignty of states, a violation of international law and the UN Charter” (continue reading here).
The comments also angered the leadership in Egypt.

New U.S. Report on Israel’s Human Rights Abuses Is 91 Percent Shorter
Last year, the State Department’s annual report on Israeli human rights abuses was 103 pages long. The new report, published Tuesday, is just nine pages.
The report on Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip was just one of 200 hollowed-out reports on human rights that the State Department released Tuesday, which, as expected, whitewash the records of some of the world’s worst violators of human rights. Experts said the report on Israel was among the most egregious, with its page count plummeting 91 percent from last year.
Josh Paul, who spent more than 11 years with the State Department bureau that oversees arms transfers to foreign nations, said, “Its coverage of Israel, the West Bank, and Gaza appears to have been written by someone who has been blindfolded, earmuffed, had a sock stuffed in their mouth, and then censored” (continue reading here).

UEFA takes criticism to heart, goes from sportswashing to support for Gaza
After the death at Israel’s hands of Suleiman al-Obeid, known as the “Palestinian Pele,” UEFA (the Union of European Football Associations) wrote on social media that he was “a talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.”
Fans criticized UEFA for failing to reference the circumstances surrounding al-Obeid’s death: he was killed by an Israeli attack on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip.
In an unexpected response, UEFA arranged for nine child refugees from Palestine, Afghanistan, Ukraine, and Iraq to carry a banner onto the field of play before the Super Cup football match between Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham in Udine, Italy. The banner read, “Stop killing children – stop killing civilians.”
