Genocide stops when millions of people know what’s happening and are willing to inconvenience themselves enough to demand that it stop.

Supporters of Palestinian rights are celebrating a new poll that reinforces the ongoing trend in the US toward recognizing Israel’s genocide and calling for an end to US military aid to Israel. But there’s another statistic in the poll that is, well, horrifying:
Many Americans, about 4 in 10, don’t know enough to have an opinion about Israel’s response to October 7th.
That’s 40% of Americans who are right now, over 1,000 days into the genocide, still ignorant about what’s going on.
We can wonder why so many people know so little about something so important – it’s a genocide, for crying out loud. It doesn’t get much bigger than that. Or we can do something about it.
Genocide doesn’t stop because people put sad or mad emojis on Facebook posts about Gaza. Genocide stops when millions of people know what’s happening and are willing to inconvenience themselves enough to demand that it stop.
If you are against genocide, and you haven’t already taken these actions, take them now:
- Call or email your Congress members. Remind them that they work for you, and that you don’t want another penny to be sent to a country that is carrying out genocide. You will not be the only person doing this. Thousands do it every day. Contribute your voice.
- Bring up the subject with an acquaintance or loved one. If they are ignorant – set the record straight (you can refer them here); if they are misinformed – set the record straight; if they don’t care – remind them that human beings are suffering, ask them what Jesus would do. In any case, ask them to call or email their Congress members – do a quick demonstration to show how easy it is.
- Start getting a bit better informed. An excellent way to do this is by reading the If Americans Knew Daily Updates (here – you can even get them in your inbox every day). You can read it in just a few minutes a day and get the gist of what’s going on with Palestine and Israel. It’s short, concise, and factual – and filled with links to trustworthy sources if you want to dig deeper.
Every day, there are people who take a risk and talk about Palestine. Why do they do it? They know that as long as this issue is ignored, people will die, but as soon as the issue is given the attention that a genocide deserves, lives will be saved.
That’s not something to take lightly. Please allow yourself to be inconvenienced.
Contact the people in Washington DC who (allegedly) work for you and tell them, “ENOUGH. CEASEFIRE NOW. NO MORE WEAPONS TO ISRAEL. STOP THE GENOCIDE. NOW – OR YOU’RE FIRED.”
