(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 784th day.)
Nine bodies of martyrs and one wounded person were recovered and taken to hospitals in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours.
Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 356 Palestinians. Death toll figures are tentative.
Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 535 times.

Gaza: War has made children violent, sad, and bereft
Issuing a warning that the children’s sense of stability and security has been eroded as key everyday services have collapsed, humanitarians insist that young Gazans will need “sustained, long-term efforts to recover”.
According to child safety partner assessments conducted in September, shared by the UN aid coordination office (OCHA), 93 per cent exhibited aggressive behavior and 90 per cent were violent towards younger children.
Sadness and withdrawal are almost as common (86 per cent), along with disturbed sleep (79 per cent) and widespread refusal to study (69 per cent) (continue reading here).

What happens in Gaza’s ‘Bermuda Triangle’? Aid keeps disappearing.
The distance between the border, where aid enters Gaza, and the displacement camps, where aid should be distributed, looks short on the map, but in reality, it is the longest distance politically and security-wise.
Many trucks that go through never reach the families that need the supplies the most. It feels as if the aid enters Gaza only to vanish into thin air.
Basic food items have suddenly appeared in local markets while still carrying labels that say: “Humanitarian Aid Not for Sale”. I have seen cans of chicken meat with this label being sold for $15 apiece (continue reading here).

OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM HEADLINES:
(Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. For background on the West Bank, read this and this. For information on the significance of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, read this and this.)
Gideon Levy: Shepherd Communities in Wadi Qelt Are Vanishing Under Settler Terror. A Journey Through an Abandoned Land.
To take a journey through Wadi Qelt, as we did last Monday, is, simply, to encounter proliferating illegal outposts and abandoned pastoralist communities. Here, as elsewhere in the West Bank, the population transfer is as quiet as it is methodical; here too the war is waged daily – a war for land, for pasture and for life.
Ahmed, the head of the last household still present, says, “The settlers come at night and enter the homes, turn on the lights and frighten the children. They start to scream: ‘Get out of here, Arab sons of dogs.’ Every night. They wear clothes of soldiers and steal sheep, sever water pipes, steal women’s gold, steal money; from my neighbor they stole 200 goats” (continue reading here).

West Bank detentions far higher than Israel publicly reports: Palestinian prisoner group
A spokesperson for the Palestinian Prisoners Society said Israel only acknowledges Palestinians it transfers to prisons or formal detention centers, while ignoring the many whose homes were stormed, belongings destroyed, or money seized before they were held briefly and released.
For example, during the latest raid on Tubas on 26 November, the group documented 162 detentions in the city alone, despite Israeli claims of only “dozens” (continue reading here).

NEWS ABOUT ISRAEL:
(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel accurately. IAK passes along only factual reporting.)
Israel to promote commander of soldiers who executed Palestinians in Jenin
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir announced that the commander of a Border Guard unit would be promoted, just one day after the commander’s subordinates were filmed executing two Palestinian resistance fighters who had surrendered and raised their hands, Hebrew language Haaretz reported.
Ben Gvir personally announced the promotion, a day after he had stated, “I fully support the Border Guard members and Israeli army soldiers who shot at wanted terrorists*.
Also on Friday, three officers from the unit were interrogated over the killing.
*NOTE: The use of the word “terrorist” for a group that resists occupation and oppression is a political, not fact-based choice. In reality, international law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power, the UN extending that right to the point of armed resistance.

After Two Years of War, Israelis Are Numb to Suffering Other Than Their Own
Two Palestinian children were killed on Saturday in an Israeli attack on Khan Yunis in the Gaza Strip. The two brothers, Fadi and Juma Abu Assi, 10 and 12, were killed by a drone. The two were shot while gathering wood for heating to help their disabled father, according to their uncle.
The IDF’s Spokesperson’s Unit described the same incident like this: soldiers from the Kfir Brigade identified two suspects who had crossed the Yellow Line into the Israeli-controlled part of Gaza, “engaged in suspicious actions on the ground, and approached the troops in a way that posed an immediate threat to them.”
Then, “the air force, directed by the forces on the ground, liquidated the suspects to remove the threat.” Those two children with shining faces, radiating innocence, are now dead. But this inconceivable tragedy was erased with the words “liquidated the suspects to remove the threat” (continue reading here).

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday submitted a formal request for a presidential pardon to President Isaac Herzog, in what the President’s Office described as an extraordinary move with significant implications.
In its statement, the President’s Office emphasized the unusual nature of the submission, saying it “carries significant implications.” Officials stressed that Herzog will consider the request “responsibly and sincerely” once all legal materials are before him.

Northwestern University to Revoke Deal* With pro-Palestinian Students in New Deal With Trump Administration
Northwestern University has agreed to pay $75 million to the U.S. government in a deal with the Trump administration to end a series of investigations and restore hundreds of millions of dollars in federal research funding.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration had cut off $790 million in grants in a standoff that contributed to university layoffs and the resignation in September of Northwestern president Michael Schill. The administration argued the school had not done enough to fight antisemitism*.
Under the agreement announced Friday night, the university to revoke the so-called Deering Meadow agreement, which it signed in April 2024 in exchange for pro-Palestinian protesters ending their tent encampment on campus (continue reading here).
*NOTE: Pro-Israel organizations consistently work to silence Palestine advocacy on campus – a free speech violation. One strategy they use is to pressure universities to officially adopt the IHRA “definition” of antisemitism, which defines legitimate criticism of Israel as antisemitic. Other strategies include blocking prestigious appointments of and events with supporters of Palestinian rights, threatening to withhold major donations, and more.
Pro-Palestine demonstrations on college campuses have overall been peaceful and non-confrontational, and have notably included a significant number of Jewish students. When there has been violence, it has come from pro-Israel counter-protesters and police.
