(It is difficult to characterize the current situation in Gaza a “ceasefire,” when Israel has killed nearly 100 Palestinians. If Americans Knew considers Wednesday to be Day 748 of Israel’s war on Gaza)
Since the “ceasefire” went into effect on October 11, Israel has reportedly killed at least 89 Palestinians and injured 317 others, and violated the truce agreement at least 80 times.

Hunger crisis in Gaza is ‘catastrophic’ despite ceasefire, WHO chief says
The hunger crisis in Gaza remains “catastrophic” two weeks after the ceasefire took effect, the UN’s health agency has warned, as international aid groups demanded Israel stop blocking humanitarian deliveries.
At least a quarter of Gaza’s population, including 11,500 pregnant women, is starving, the UN warned on Wednesday, saying the effects of malnutrition will have “generational” impacts in Gaza.

WHO pleads for sick Gazans to be allowed to leave
The World Health Organization (WHO) is calling for all crossings out of Gaza into Israel and Egypt to be opened up during the ceasefire — not only for the entry of aid but for medical evacuations too. Since the ceasefire began on October 10, WHO has been able to evacuate only 41 critical patients, out of an estimated 15,000 people currently needing treatment outside the Palestinian territory.
At the current rate, he said evacuating the 15,000 people needing treatment — including 4,000 children — would drag on for a decade or so.
The WHO says more than 700 people have died waiting for medical evacuation since the war began.

Deadly Gaza Humanitarian Foundation lobbying for ‘new role’ in post-war Gaza: Report
The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), a deadly aid scheme operating in the Gaza Strip, is in talks with US and Israeli officials about a potential new post-war role in the enclave, the Financial Times (FT) reported on 23 October.
The US and Israeli-created GHF began operations in May, but the amount of aid it distributed was negligible for Gaza’s roughly 2 million people, aid groups and some Israeli officials have said, and was widely considered part of an Israeli effort to starve and ethnically cleanse Palestinians. At least 1,000 Palestinians were killed by live fire from Israeli troops at GHF sites.
The GHF is proposing that it continue its role of operating food distribution centers in Gaza territory still under Israeli military control, managing logistics hubs for reconstruction, or supplying aid to other foreign aid groups.

Israel’s high court delays ruling to allow foreign journalists into Gaza
Israel’s supreme court has granted the government an additional 30 days to rule whether to allow foreign journalists independent access to Gaza, following a hearing on a petition filed by the Foreign Press Association (FPA) nearly two years ago.
The FPA stated on 23 October that it is “disappointed” by the decision to “grant the State of Israel yet another delay regarding the independent entry of journalists into Gaza.”
Israel continues to deny requests by international reporters for unrestricted access to Gaza despite the recent ceasefire that went into effect between Hamas and the Israeli military earlier this month.

Israel defies ICJ ruling, vows to bar UNRWA from Gaza
Israel has vowed to prevent the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from resuming operations in the Gaza Strip, despite a ruling by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) ordering it to facilitate humanitarian assistance and ensure basic needs for civilians in the besieged enclave.
A senior Israeli official told the public broadcaster Kan Reshet Bet on Thursday that “for us, UNRWA will never set foot in Gaza again,” adding that “every UN agency that entered Gaza has failed miserably in its duties or fallen under Hamas control. Therefore, as far as Israel is concerned, UNRWA will not be allowed to return to operate in the Strip”.
The remarks came a day after the ICJ in The Hague had ruled that Israel must not use starvation as a weapon of war and, as an occupying power, must enable relief efforts if the local population is deprived of essential supplies.

Vance says Knesset votes on annexing West Bank are an ‘insult’ as Netanyahu halts progress
The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has ordered a halt to the advancement of parliamentary bills linked to the annexation of the West Bank after the US vice-president, JD Vance, described a vote on two bills in the Knesset as an “insult”.
The bills applying Israeli law to the occupied West Bank, which would be tantamount to the annexation of land Palestinians want for a state, won preliminary approval from Israel’s parliament on Wednesday, barely a week after Donald Trump pushed through a deal aimed at ending a two-year Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Asked by reporters about the vote at the end of a two-day visit to Israel, Vance said: “If it was a political stunt, it is a very stupid one, and I personally take some insult to it,” adding, “the West Bank is not going to be annexed by Israel. The policy of President Trump is that the West Bank will not be annexed. This will always be our policy.”

On Israel’s annexation push, Trump says: ‘Don’t worry about the West Bank’
The US president says “Israel is not going to do anything with the West Bank” amid growing condemnation of an Israeli parliamentary motion passed yesterday that seeks to formally annex the occupied Palestinian territory.
Asked during a news conference if the annexation push undermines his Gaza plan, Trump said, “They’re not going to do anything with the West Bank. Don’t worry about it. Israel is doing very well; they’re not going to do anything with it.”

Trump says he will ‘be making a decision’ on releasing Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti
US President Donald Trump said during an interview with Time Magazine that he would decide whether to push for the release of imprisoned Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti, the “Palestinian Mandela” whom many see as capable of uniting Palestinians behind a two-state solution.
Trump said that Palestinians “don’t have a leader right now, at least a visible leader.” He added that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas would probably not be involved in post-war governance.
Israeli PM Netanyahu has been very clear about his plan to keep Barghouti in prison.
