Murdering the truth-tellers: Israel kills another Gazan journalist – Not a Ceasefire Day 54

Compilation of news reports – IAK staff

(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 786th day.)

Medical sources in Gaza reported that at least five Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire in different parts of the Strip since Tuesday morning. Among the dead was Palestinian photojournalist Mahmoud Wadi (details).

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 360 Palestinians. Among the dead are at least 136 children. At least 922 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 591 times.

‘Every day, I wish I could die’: In Gaza, survivors battle the long-term effects of war trauma amid a fragile ceasefire

Gaza’s air is thick with dust and smoke, nights are haunted by drones, and the ceasefire deal, which went into effect on October 10, 2025, hangs by a thread over the Strip.

What was meant to be a moment of relief has instead turned into despair, as tens of thousands of Palestinians returning to the ruins of their homes are forced to endure unbearable conditions — searching desperately for water and bread while anxiously awaiting news of family members who have vanished amid the rubble.

“During Israel’s genocide, people coped by avoiding what had happened to them,” Arwa al-Sakafi, a therapist, tells The New Arab. She describes a new kind of war that has followed the genocide — a battle with trauma and its long-term effects (continue reading here).

Israeli forces kill two* Palestinian teenagers in occupied West Bank

The Israeli army said 17-year-old Muhannad al-Zughair was shot dead in the Abu Daajan area of Hebron after what it claimed was a ramming attack that injured two soldiers.

The Israeli army then invaded the slain young man’s family home and the mourning tent, forcing the family to leave their home.

Meanwhile, in the north of Ramallah, 18-year-old Muhammad Asmar was killed near the village of Umm Safa  after allegedly stabbing Israeli soldiers, lightly wounding two.

Asmar was “held by soldiers and was then shot while on the ground and left to bleed for hours”.

Israeli forces abducted three brothers and the cousin of the slain youth, and threatened the family against holding a mourning ceremony for their son.

*NOTE: Israeli forces and/or settlers have killed nearly 2,000 Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem since October 7th, 2023. Detailed statistics below.

Hundreds of settlers storm Al-Aqsa mosque* under Israeli military guard

Israeli settlers forced their way into the courtyards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Tuesday while Israeli occupation forces cordoned off and guarded the compound, reported the Palestinian news agency Wafa.

Local sources said 631 settlers entered the site and staged provocative tours across the courtyards under the protection of Israeli soldiers, in yet another violation of the status quo* at the holy site.

*NOTE: Anyone can visit the Al Aqsa Mosque grounds, but only Muslims are allowed to pray there, according to an understanding known as the ‘status quo agreement,’ which has existed since Israel captured the Old City of Jerusalem from Jordan in 1967.

(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. Israeli rights groups say 2025 marks ‘deadliest and most destructive year’ for Palestinians

Israeli human rights organizations on Tuesday deemed 2025 the “deadliest and most destructive” year for Palestinians, with Israel doubling its killing and displacement of civilians in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.

This came in a joint report released by 12 Israeli human rights groups: Bimkom (Planners for Planning Rights), Gisha, the Association for Civil Rights in Israel, the Public Committee Against Torture in Israel, HaMoked (Center for the Defence of the Individual), Yesh Din, Combatants for Peace, Ir Amim, Emek Shaveh, Physicians for Human Rights – Israel, Breaking the Silence, and Torat Tzedek (continue reading here).

Legislating apartheid*: How Israel entrenched unequal rule during Gaza war

As a disturbing new report by the Haifa-based legal center Adalah shows, Israel’s legislators have used the chaos of the past two years to advance more than 30 new laws entrenching apartheid and Jewish supremacy — joining  Adalah’s existing list of now more than 100 Israeli laws that discriminate against Palestinian citizens.

One of the report’s central findings is a sweeping assault on freedom of expression, thought, and protest across a wide array of arenas. It includes laws prohibiting the publication of content that includes “denial of the events of October 7,” as determined by the Knesset, and restricting broadcasts of critical media outlets that “harm state security” (continue reading here; see the full report here).

*NOTE: Zionism, the ideology on which Israel is built, is a supremacist ideology – the ideology under which 750,000 Palestinian people were dispossessed and exiled to Gaza and other locations. By its very nature, Zionism requires an exclusively Jewish population – or a Jewish overclass – and has necessitated Israel’s policies of occupation, apartheid, ethnic cleansing, genocide, and more. Antizionism opposes this supremacism and demands equality. It is not directed toward Jews, but toward the ideology. Many Jews are antizionists.

Despite Trump’s call for restraint, Israeli army stages new cross-border raid into southern Syria

The Israeli army staged a new cross-border raid into southern Syria on Tuesday.

On Monday, the army raided two Syrian villages, in continuation of near-daily attacks on the country’s south for several months, and President Trump demanded that Israel exercise restraint: “It is very important that Israel maintain a strong and true dialogue with Syria, and that nothing takes place that will interfere with Syria’s evolution into a prosperous state.”

Syrian government data shows that since December 2024, Israel has carried out over 1,000 airstrikes on Syria and more than 400 cross-border raids.

Only Trump Can Stop Jewish Settlers* Terrorizing Palestinians. This Is How

In recent weeks, mainstream Israeli media has, at long last, joined Haaretz’s coverage and begun to focus on the surge of violent settler attacks against Palestinian civilians. Mosques, homes, and cars have been torched. Olive harvests have been stolen. Palestinians have been beaten, terrorized and, in some cases, killed.

The situation is so grave that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu felt compelled to issue a rare condemnation. He promised that his government “will take very forceful action” regarding attacks against Palestinians and IDF soldiers. He even convened a special meeting of security officials to explore possible steps.

Israelis responded with a collective shrug. They know Netanyahu’s stern language and “meetings with security officials” – meetings that are quickly leaked to the media – are all for show. They are designed to satisfy international pressure, not to signal meaningful change (continue reading here).

*NOTE: Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. Some settler groups have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces (a phenomenon that has grown significantly worse since October 7th, 2023).

In a landmark advisory opinion on July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

ICC president vows to ‘resist’ US sanctions over Gaza genocide probe

The president of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Judge Tomoko Akane, has warned that US sanctions imposed over the court’s investigation into Israeli war crimes in Gaza will not alter how judges interpret their mandate or handle cases.

Speaking to representatives of the ICC’s 125 member states at the annual meeting in The Hague, Akane said the sanctions campaign ordered earlier this year by US President Donald Trump has “unsettled” the daily lives of officials and disrupted their financial transactions, including in European member states (continue reading here).
