Israel’s NGO ban a “cynical and calculated attempt” to starve Gaza – Not a ceasefire Day 85

Compilation of news reports – IAK staff

(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 814th day.)

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 418 Palestinians. At least 1,171 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 969 times in 84 days. More statistics below.

More flash flooding* may be on the way to Gaza

The Palestinian Meteorological Department has warned of very cold and unsettled weather across Palestine, with a risk of flash flooding in some areas, as hundreds of thousands across Gaza are trying to survive in makeshift tents with no electricity or heating.

*NOTE: This is the 3rd winter of the genocide on Gaza. Israel is blocking the entry of humanitarian aid supplies – as it has done for years, and especially during the war – imposing intolerable conditions and keeping the people on the edge of famine and in some areas, in actual famine.

As a de facto occupier of Gaza, the law of armed conflict obligates Israel to provide accommodations for people temporarily evacuated from their homes, ensure that the civilian population is provided with supplies essential to their survival, including basic food and medical supplies as well as clothing, bedding, and means of shelter.

Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly stated that they have large quantities of sheltering materials, food, and medical supplies waiting just outside the border, but Israel does not allow them into the Strip.

Medical charity MSF says Israel ignored meeting requests over registration issue

Claire San Filippo, Doctors Without Borders’ (MSF’s) emergency coordinator for Palestine, has said Israel’s move to ban dozens of international aid organizations from operating in Gaza under new registration requirements is a “cynical and calculated attempt” to block humanitarian assistance at a time of immense need.

“Conditioning access to a territory on the submission of staff lists is outrageous, is an outrageous overreach,” she added. “Allowing humanitarian aid is not a luxury or a favor. It is an obligation under international humanitarian law.”

2025: Illegal Israeli settlement* expansion in occupied West Bank hits record high

Israel’s far-right coalition approved an unprecedented number of new settlements and housing projects – a push rights groups say is aimed at annexing the territory and blocking Palestinian statehood.

*NOTE: Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. Some settler groups have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces (a phenomenon that has grown significantly worse since October 7th, 2023).

In a landmark advisory opinion on July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel Accuses Zohran Mamdani of Antisemitism for Reversing Orders Adams Gave Under Indictment

The Israeli government and its allies are coming for the new Mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, after he revoked all executive orders issued by Adams after his federal indictment on September 26, 2024, including two executive orders related to Israel.

“That was a date that marked a moment when many New Yorkers decided politics held nothing for them,” said Mamdani on Thursday, alluding to accusations that Adams’ administration was tainted by his efforts to cozy up to President Donald Trump to avoid prosecution (continue reading here).

*NOTE: In condemning Zohran Mamdani, Israel is ignoring its embrace of the abhorrent policies of apartheid, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. When pro-Israel organizations, billionaires, and leaders pour massive effort and huge sums into propaganda; when they assemble media conglomerates and thought leaders to control the narrative, and affix the “antisemite” label to advocates of Palestinian rights – all in an attempt to renovate Israel’s reputation – they are misdirecting their effort. When Israel dismantles its apartheid and adopts equal rights for all, when it ends its 77-year war against Palestinian existence – then it might expect to enjoy support again.
