US contractors say their colleagues are firing live ammo as Palestinians seek food in Gaza

American contractors guarding aid distribution sites in Gaza are using live ammunition and stun grenades as hungry Palestinians scramble for food, according to accounts and videos obtained by The Associated Press.

Two U.S. contractors, speaking to the AP on condition of anonymity because they were revealing their employers’ internal operations, said they were coming forward because they were disturbed by what they considered dangerous and irresponsible practices. They said the security staff hired were often unqualified, unvetted, heavily armed and seemed to have an open license to do whatever they wished.

They said their colleagues regularly lobbed stun grenades and pepper spray in the direction of the Palestinians. One contractor said bullets were fired in all directions — in the air, into the ground and at times toward the Palestinians, recalling at least one instance where he thought someone had been hit (continue reading here).

ISRAEL KILLS RENOWNED GAZA DOCTOR: The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemns and denounces the heinous crime committed by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in the killing of Dr. Marwan ‘Omar Rab’ie al-Sultan, General Director of the Indonesian Hospital, alongside eight members of his family. This was a deliberate and targeted airstrike on a residential apartment, where Dr. al-Sultan was sheltering. PCHR stresses that this crime is yet another addition to the series of grave violations committed by IOF against medical personnel as part of a systematic policy to decimate Gaza’s healthcare system.

CEASEFIRE NEWS:

To get an idea about past ceasefires between Gaza and Israel and how they ended, check out this and this.

HAMAS WANTS WAR TO END, PERIOD: The Palestinian group says it is reviewing a ceasefire proposal from mediators and that it seeks an agreement that will lead to the end of the war and withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza – demands that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has long rejected. Hamas official Taher al-Nunu said the group is “ready and serious” about reaching an agreement and will accept “any initiative that clearly leads to the complete end to the war”.

“TURNING GAZA INTO DUST”: Israeli officials have reportedly warned that the country’s military will escalate its operations in Gaza if negotiations on a ceasefire and captive exchange deal do not advance soon. Israel on Monday ordered civilians in additional areas of Gaza City to evacuate south, signaling preparations for a potential expansion of the army’s ground offensive. “We’ll do to Gaza City and the central camps what we did to Rafah. Everything will turn to dust,” the outlet quoted a senior Israeli official as saying. “It’s not our preferred option, but if there’s no movement toward a hostage deal, we won’t have any other choice.”

NOTE: Israel does have another choice: to submit to international law, end the genocide, and allow Palestinians to return to their homes.

WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM NEWS AND HEADLINES:

(For background on the West Bank, read this and this)

TWO-HOUR WARNING BEFORE HOME DEMOLITION: Palestinians have gathered in the Tulkarem refugee camp in the occupied West Bank to attempt to recover their possessions from their homes before they are demolished by Israeli forces. About 400 families would reportedly be made homeless by the Israeli order to demolish more than 100 homes. The official said a two-hour deadline given by Israeli authorities to retrieve belongings was insufficient for families to remove their possessions.

CALLS FOR TRUMP-BACKED ANNEXATION: Israel’s governing party Likud, led by Netanyahu, has pushed for the formal annexation of the West Bank before the Israeli parliament’s summer recess on July 27. Israeli media has reported that the letter has been signed by all of Likud’s government ministers, claiming the annexation is necessary to eliminate what they call an “existential threat from within”. The letter also invokes the “strategic partnership” and support from the US. Annexing the West Bank is widely condemned by international legal experts as illegal under international law.

IRAN AND IRAN-ADJACENT NEWS AND HEADLINES:

US ‘Bunker Buster Act’ could arm Israel with B-2 stealth bombers

A pair of US lawmakers are introducing the Bunker Buster Bill, which would authorize President Trump to transfer B‑2 stealth bombers to Israel.

Representative Josh Gottheimer, who will jointly brought forward the bill, said on X, “Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terror and is responsible for the deaths of thousands of Americans. As Iran rebuilds its nuclear program, we must maintain maximum deterrence. My bipartisan Bunker Buster Act will give Israel the tools she needs to deter Iranian aggression and take out their underground nuclear sites – strengthening US national security.”

Bunker buster bombs can penetrate more than 200 feet of concrete or rock before detonating and were used by the US in recent air strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities.

GOOD FOR THE GOOSE: Israeli foreign minister Gideon Sa’ar is calling for sanctions on Iran after Tehran suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Sa’ar called the Iranian decision to halt ties with the IAEA “scandalous.” “It is a complete renunciation of all its international nuclear obligations and commitments,” he said. “The international community must act decisively now and utilize all means at its disposal to stop Iranian nuclear ambitions.”

NOTE: Israel has nuclear weapons but has historically refused to cooperate with the IAEA.

Settler urging extreme violence enjoys high-level access in Brussels

By categorizing a small number of settlers as “extremist,” the EU is implying that the remainder are reasonable or moderate. Some are even welcome in the corridors of power.

Elie Pieprz is one such settler. He recently secured a meeting with the office of Kaja Kallas, the EU’s foreign policy chief – “something that is not easy to get,” as he has noted.

Hailing from Maryland, Pieprz became well known in political circles when he was the international spokesperson for the Yesha Council – an umbrella group for Israel’s settlements – between 2013 and 2019. Today, he works for the Israel Defense and Security Forum (IDSF), which claims to be part of a movement bringing together 40,000 “reserve officers and operatives.”

Months before he was received by her office, Pieprz was already emphasizing his admiration for Kallas (continue reading here).

UK SECRETLY AIDS IN GENOCIDE: Britain’s Labour government has secretly allowed at least three Israeli Air Force (IAF) planes involved in the bombing of Gaza to land in the UK since it took office, according to flight data reviewed by Drop Site News. The KC-707 “Re’em” aerial refueling planes have stopped in Britain on trips between Israel and the U.S. on nine separate occasions. The planes were blocked on commercial flight tracking databases but Drop Site was able to identify them through unfiltered flight transponder data (more).

TRUMP STANDS WITH ISRAEL: The Trump administration said Wednesday it stands by Israel and its security decisions after senior Israeli ministers called for the annexation of the occupied West Bank. “Our position regarding Israel, the choices it makes, is that we stand with Israel and its decisions and how it views its own internal security,” said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

NOTE: Annexation of land – that is, the proclamation of sovereignty over the territory of another State – is aviolation of international law.
