(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 834th day.)
Israeli forces killed at least three Palestinians, including two teens, on Saturday in Gaza.
Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 484 Palestinians. At least 1,321 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.
At least 25 Palestinians in Gaza have died due to the extreme cold, including 21 children, since the start of Israel’s genocidal war in October 2023. At least 11 Palestinian children have died of extreme cold this winter.
Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 1,300 times (as of Jan. 15, 2026). More statistics below.

Israeli drone strike kills two children collecting firewood in Gaza
A father from the Gaza Strip lost his only son and his nephew in an Israeli airstrike while they were collecting firewood near Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza. “Call the doctor to wake him up, please. He’s my only son, he doesn’t leave me.”
Medical sources reported the killing of the young man Nour Farid Abu Sitta (26 years old) as a result of a drone bombing south of the city of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip.

“BOARD OF PEACE” AND “GAZA MASTER PLAN” NEWS & HEADLINES*:
The so-called Board of Peace, headed for life by US President Donald Trump, was originally created to end the war between Israel and Gaza, but may include usurping the role of the United Nations. It includes a number of wealthy individuals and world leaders, including indicted war criminal Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu– but zero Palestinians. (Read more here.)
Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner recently presented a new, colonialist “master plan” for the reconstruction of Gaza.
*NOTE: In all the commotion swirling around these two dangerous developments, IAK encourages readers to seek out Palestinian voices and opinions. They have a greater stake in the future of Gaza than any investor or politician, but are too often ignored.
Mosab Abu Toha, a Palestinian writer from Gaza, said, “If the goal is truly peace, then the path is simple: end the occupation and help restore the rights that have been taken from Palestinians since 1948. We, the Palestinian people, are the ones who must determine our own future. Peace cannot be imposed while our land is occupied, our lives controlled, and our voices ignored.”
Buying peace, selling Gaza: Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ and the monetization of ruins
Any serious discussion of Gaza’s future should begin with ceasefire, accountability, and the restoration of Palestinian political agency. Trump’s board begins elsewhere. It begins with money, authority, and control.
The structure of Trump’s group is revealing. Membership is tiered by financial contribution. Terms are renewable not by collective review or international mandate, but at the discretion of a chairman. Palestinians are not named as partners, decision-makers, or even formal participants.
Gaza is spoken of as a space to be stabilized, administered, and rebuilt, but never as a society entitled to determine its own future. This is governance without consent, authority without accountability, and peace without people (continue reading here).

Netanyahu rejects WH request for Israel president to attend Board of Peace ceremony
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected a request by the White House to allow President Isaac Herzog to attend the launch ceremony of President Trump’s Gaza Board of Peace on Thursday in Davos, according to two sources familiar with the details.
Netanyahu did not travel to the World Economic Forum in Davos due to the International Criminal Court arrest warrant hanging over his head. But Israel’s president Herzog attended the event.
Israel’s absence at the event created the impression that it is not 100% on board.

OCCUPIED WEST BANK/EAST JERUSALEM NEWS & HEADLINES:
(Every day, Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem endure dozens of incidents like the ones below, at the hands of Israeli soldiers and/or settlers. For background on the West Bank, read this and this. For information on the significance of Israeli settlers in the West Bank, read this and this.)
Israeli settlers* wound elderly Christian Palestinian woman in West Bank attack
Settlers brought their livestock to graze near the home of Nafiz Emeid on the outskirts of Birzeit, north of Ramallah, close to the Atara military barrier, and, he said, deliberately damaged crops and trees before suddenly throwing stones at the house.
His mother, Najat Jadallah Emeid, 62, was struck in the head and hospitalized with serious injuries. “My mother was taken to the hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit, where it was discovered she had a fractured skull,” Nafiz said. Israeli troops came to the property and arrested him, after which the settlers left (continue reading here).

Israeli settler* attacks have displaced over 12,000 Palestinian Bedouins since 2023
Around 1,000 Palestinian families, made up of 12,000 people, have been displaced from various parts of the occupied West Bank since October 2023 due to Israeli settler attacks, a new report said on Saturday.
Since the beginning of Israel’s war on Gaza in October 2023, the occupied West Bank has seen a sharp uptick in settler attacks against Palestinian civilians, as well as the expansion of settler outposts encroaching on Palestinian land.
*NOTE: Settlers are an armed civilian population that pose a serious threat to Palestinians: Many Israelis, especially illegal settlers, are already heavily armed – while Palestinians are not allowed to own weapons; settlers already enjoy impunity, even support and assistance from the Israeli government and military, as they attack Palestinians on a daily basis.
Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. Some settler groups have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces (a phenomenon that has grown significantly worse since October 7th, 2023).
In a landmark advisory opinion on July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
