(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 848th day.)
Israeli occupation forces killed three Palestinians — including a 16-year-old child — across the Gaza Strip on Sunday.
Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 581 Palestinians (288 children, women, and elderly). At least 1,544 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.
Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 1,520 times (as of Feb. 1, 2026). More statistics below.

Handful of patients leave Gaza through Rafah crossing
44 Palestinians left the Gaza Strip on Sunday through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, including just 17 patients and 27 companions. The Rafah crossing saw no movement Friday or Saturday due to the weekend closure.
Israel reopened the Palestinian side of the crossing last Monday after keeping it under occupation since May 2024, allowing only minimal movement under tight controls. Estimates in Gaza indicate that about 22,000 wounded and sick Palestinians hope to leave the territory for treatment abroad.

Illegal Israeli settlers* assault elderly blind Palestinian in occupied West Bank
Local sources say attackers beat 81-year-old with sticks east of Hebron amid upsurge in settler violence.
*NOTE: Israel has built around 280 settlements, home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers, on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. Some settler groups have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces – a phenomenon that has grown significantly worse since October 7th, 2023.
In a landmark advisory opinion on July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Israel approves measures to expand settlements in occupied West Bank
The changes would fundamentally reshape the legal and civil framework in the occupied West Bank, bolstering Israeli control and enabling expansion of settlements, according to Israeli media. Palestinian leaders say the measures advance annexation, threaten holy sites and violate international law. Hamas says the changes “confirm [Israel’s] colonial program aimed at swallowing all Palestinian land and displacing its original inhabitants.”

ISRAEL NEWS & HEADLINES:
(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. Among other things, the move will introduce measures to ease the sale of Palestinian land to Jews. Bezalel Smotrich said after the cabinet meeting, “We will continue to kill the idea of a Palestinian state.” Under the Oslo Accords, Israel has no authority over civilian matters in the West Bank.

Jeffrey Epstein reportedly wrote, “Palestine has never existed*”
Email correspondence sent by Epstein on May 20, 2012, to an unnamed person reveals that he claimed “Palestine has never historically existed.” In that message, Epstein wrote:
“Palestine was never an exclusively Arab country, although Arabic gradually became the language of most the population after the Muslim invasions of the seventh century. No independent Arab or Palestinian state ever existed in Palestine.”
*NOTE: The question of the existence of Palestine is often answered with a disingenuous “No” in order to sidestep the inconvenient fact that Israel usurped 78% of Palestinian land and exiled 750,000 of its people in 1948. Ignoring the Palestinian presence on the land enables one to adopt the fantasy that it was “a land without people for a people without land,” just waiting for the return of the Jews after thousands of years of exile. Scholarly books like “Palestine: A Four Thousand Year History” by Nur Masalha provide the historical facts.
Today, nearly 160 UN member states recognize Palestine as a state, making its existence a current, internationally recognized reality, regardless of historical debates.
