BELOVED GAZAN DOCTOR SUFFERING IN ISRAELI PRISON: The health of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya, a prominent pediatrician and the director of Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, has deteriorated significantly while in Israeli detention, his lawyer says in a statement posted on social media. Abu Safia was detained in December when Israeli forces raided Kamal Adwan Hospital. Abu Safia has reportedly lost more than 40kg (88lb) since his arrest, dropping to about 60kg (132lb). He has reportedly been severely beaten at Israel’s Ofer Prison in the occupied West Bank.

A “THIRST WAR” IS MORE THAN JUST BEING THIRSTY: Israel has waged a systematic “thirst war” in the Gaza Strip, carrying out at least 112 attacks targeting water collection queues that have killed over 700 Palestinians – mostly children – since the war began. Israeli forces have destroyed 720 wells and blocked fuel needed to run water and sewage infrastructure, the territory’s government media office said Monday, resulting in severe water shortages, the collapse of essential services, and the outbreak and spread of disease, especially among children.

AT LEAST 360 MEDICAL PERSONNEL ARRESTED IN GAZA: Gaza’s Health Ministry reports that at least 360 medical personnel have been arrested by Israel inside the enclave since the start of the war and those detained are “living in tragic and harsh conditions”. It called for urgent international intervention “to criminalize the occupation’s practices.” The Israeli army has killed at least 1,400 healthcare and medical workers across Gaza since the start of the war in October 2023, according to the ministry.

Netanyahu’s plan for Gaza’s ‘humanitarian city’ falters amid opposition from Israeli army

An Israeli plan to build what Tel Aviv calls a “humanitarian city” for Palestinians in southern Gaza fell through amid opposition from the military, local media said on Monday.

The Israeli government unveiled a plan last week to relocate Gaza’s entire population to a new zone on the ruins of Rafah city, where they would be held until being allowed to emigrate from Gaza to other countries.

The controversial plan has triggered global outrage, with the UN and rights groups decrying it; Israeli opposition leaders have also denounced the plan, which is estimated to cost $4 billion, and would amount to interning Palestinians in a “concentration camp.”

Israeli PM Netanyahu reportedly “threw out” the plan in a tense cabinet meeting Sunday: “I asked for a realistic plan,” Netanyahu told Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir, calling for preparing a “cheaper and faster alternative” by tomorrow.

Israel blames ‘technical error’ after killing six children queuing for water

After killing six children queuing for water in Gaza’s Al-Nuseirat refugee camp, Israel has blamed a “technical error” for the drone strike, as the death toll from its attacks on food and water distribution points climbs to 800.

Witnesses said an Israeli drone targeted a crowd of families gathering with empty containers next to a water tanker. In total, ten people were killed, including six children, while 16 others—including seven more children—were injured and taken to Al-Awda Hospital.

Israel claims it targeted fighters, but the munition landed “dozens of meters” off target due to a technical malfunction. In a statement, the military said it “regrets any harm to uninvolved civilians”, a routine disclaimer repeatedly issued after mass civilian casualties.

“KEEP OUT OF YOUR WATER”: The Israeli military issued a reminder to Palestinians in Gaza that accessing the Mediterranean Sea along the Gaza Strip is forbidden – a rarely enforced restriction in place since the start of the war that will affect Palestinians who are already enduring acute water shortages, extreme summer heat and deteriorating humanitarian conditions. “Strict security restrictions have been imposed in the maritime area adjacent to Gaza – entry to the sea is prohibited,” a government statement said. “This is a call to fishermen, swimmers and divers – refrain from entering the sea. Entering the beach and waters along the entire Gaza Strip endangers your lives.”

Ha’aretz: Netanyahu Hopes to Reach Legislature Summer Recess Before Striking a Hostage Deal

Netanyahu’s overarching goals appear not to have changed. He is first and foremost interested in his political survival, which means maintaining the current governing coalition. If he has no choice, he will bow to Trump’s pressure and seal a deal. But his goal is to reach that point only after the Knesset begins its summer recess at the end of the month, which would remove the immediate threat to his government’s survival.

The complementary move that Netanyahu is marketing to far-right ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir is the large-scale expulsion plan misleadingly called a “humanitarian city” on the ruins of Rafah.

The fact that his visit to Washington ended without an agreement should have led the media, belatedly, to a clear conclusion: there’s no reason to believe either leaders’ predictions or hopes regarding a timetable (“this week or next week“), because both of them spout such promises with no basis whatsoever (continue reading here).

Hamas Says It Won’t Sign a “Surrender” Agreement, As War of Attrition Intensifies

“Netanyahu is adept at thwarting one round of negotiations after another and does not want to reach any agreement,” Hamas said in a statement on Monday. Basem Naim, a senior Hamas official, told Drop Site that he believes Netanyahu is publicly paying lip service to the possibility of a deal to buy time to blame Hamas for its failure, so he can move forward with Israel’s war of annihilation in Gaza.

Hamas officials have repeatedly told the U.S. and regional mediators they would accept a comprehensive deal that would include the immediate release of all Israeli captives held in Gaza, in return for an end to the war, lifting the blockade, Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and the release of a large number of Palestinians held by Israel. Israel has rejected all of these offers (continue reading here).

Illegal Settlers Destroy Water Wells in West Bank – Dozens of Villages Affected

Illegal Israeli Jewish settlers have destroyed water wells in a town in the occupied West Bank, a local non-governmental organization said on Monday.

The armed settlers caused significant destruction to the Ein Samiya wells in Ramallah in the central West Bank on Sunday night, resulting in a complete loss of access to the wells, the Jerusalem Water Undertaking said in a statement, according to the Anadolu news agency.

The organization said that the destroyed wells were the only source of water for dozens of Palestinian villages in the area, and warned that the entire region will face an unprecedented water crisis “if no action is taken to halt Israeli settler attacks.”

NOTE: Israel has illegally built around 280 settlements on Palestinian land in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, which are home to more than 700,000 illegal settlers. Israeli settlements and settlers on Palestinian land are a violation of international law, and considered by many Palestinians to be the main barrier to any lasting peace agreement.

Some settler groups, moreover, have a history of violence against Palestinians, often with the assistance of Israeli military forces.

In a landmark advisory opinion on July 19, 2024, the International Court of Justice declared Israel’s decades-long occupation of Palestinian land “illegal” and demanded the evacuation of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Freedom Flotilla ship Handala begins its journey to Gaza to break the blockade, For the Children of Gaza

PRESS RELEASE: On July 13, 2025, the Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC) announced that Handala, our civilian aid boat, has officially set sail from Siracusa, Italy and begun its journey to Gaza. This marks a bold step in our ongoing effort to challenge Israel’s illegal, deadly blockade of the Palestinian people in Gaza. The boat carries life-saving humanitarian aid and a message of solidarity from people around the world refusing to stay silent as Gaza is starved, bombed, and buried under rubble.

This mission comes just weeks after Israel’s illegal attack on the Madleen, another Freedom Flotilla boat, which was violently seized in international waters. Twelve unarmed civilians, including a Member of the European Parliament, a doctor, journalists, and human rights defenders, were abducted by Israeli commandos and taken against their will to Israel, where they were interrogated, abused, then deported. Their “crime”? Attempting to bring food, medicine, and solidarity to Palestinians under siege.

Handala is part of the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, a grassroots international network that has been sailing against the blockade since 2010. On board are volunteer medics, lawyers, social justice activists, journalists, and community organizers. We are not governments. We are people, taking action where institutions have failed.

Named after the Palestinian cartoon figure Handala, a barefoot refugee child who turned his back on injustice and vowed not to turn around until Palestine is free, this boat carries his spirit and that of every child in Gaza who has been denied safety, dignity, and joy.

Follow the Handala’s journey here.

Trump and Netanyahu: A Duplicitous and Murderous Pair

Meetings between US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are more akin to a master class in posturing and duplicity than in diplomacy. Last week’s meetings were no exception.

Both men are master manipulators, products of our media age. They create illusions that they insist are real. They repeat a lie over and over, and with such force, that it becomes real for those who trust them. Those who do not believe in the illusion are threatened, belittled, or shunned.

Both leaders have utilized their craftiness to achieve personal success in domestic politics. They have developed strong constituent bases, followers who believe that their leadership must be supported and protected. At the same time, they are polarizing figures who have contributed to creating deep fissures within their countries (continue reading here).
