Gaza’s evacuation crisis & amputation epidemic – Not a Ceasefire Day 35

Compilation of news reports – IAK staff

(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 768th day.)

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 260 and injured 632. Death toll figures are tentative.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 282 times.

Dying while waiting: Gaza’s wounded trapped as Israel blocks medical evacuations

More than 7,600 of those injured in the early months of Israel’s war on Gaza managed to evacuate for treatment abroad through the Rafah crossing into Egypt – but since Israel invaded Rafah in May 2024, the crossing has been sealed, cutting Gaza off from the outside world.

According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, more than 9,300 wounded and sick Palestinians have died since October 2023 due to the collapse of medical care and Israel’s ban on medical evacuations. An estimated 22,000 people remain on waiting lists for urgent evacuation, the media office says.

A spokesperson for the office called the situation “a deliberate crime aimed at perpetuating civilian suffering”, accusing Israel of using “human pain as a political bargaining chip” (continue reading here).

6,000 Gazans amputated since start of Israeli war: Health Ministry

Gaza’s Health Ministry has reported 6,000 amputations in the enclave since the start of Israel’s two-year war in October 2023.

Children account for 25 per cent of the total amputations, and women make up 12.7 per cent.

“These figures reflect the profound humanitarian suffering experienced by thousands of the wounded and their families,” the ministry said, calling for urgent rehabilitation and psychological and social support services, especially for children who now face permanent disabilities at an early age (continue reading here).

Israel strikes northern Gaza as northern crossing opens for aid trucks*

Israel opened the Zikim Crossing in northern Gaza to allow humanitarian aid trucks into the enclave on Wednesday, COGAT, the Israeli military’s arm that oversees aid flows, said in a statement.

Aid agencies have warned that Gaza is on the precipice of a humanitarian crisis as winter approaches, with only a fraction of the aid needed to keep the population alive entering the enclave.

At the same time, Israel launched three airstrikes north east of Beit Lahia, while Israeli ships also opened fire off the coast of southern Gaza (continue reading here).

*NOTE: This entire headline highlights Israel’s failure to abide by the terms of the “ceasefire”: not only is the bombing still ongoing after 35 days, but the quantity of humanitarian aid Israel was obligated to bring into Gaza is still unmet, as the population teeters on the edge of famine.

NOTABLE QUOTE: “What has been seen can not be unseen”

Palestinian American historian Rashid Khalidi captures a turning point in how the world understands Gaza:

What has been seen cannot be unseen. People saw reality. It’s shown [Israel] to be liars.

The damage to the Israeli narrative has been irreparable. Majorities of Americans are now harshly critical of Israel. Majorities … consider that Israel is committing war crimes … 40% American Jews consider Israel is committing genocide.

The election [of Zohran Mamdani] proved that this is not just public opinion. This is now political, People are now coming out publicly and saying, I refuse to accept money from AIPAC [The American Israel Public Affairs Committee]. It’s not just a temporary change … This is the beginning, I think, of a major political change.

The Palestinians have the absolute right to determine their own future. It’s not for an American president or a Middle Eastern leader to decide. It’s for the Palestinians to decide.

Israeli military prepares target bank in West Bank ahead of possible escalation

The Israeli air force has set up a ‘target bank’ in the occupied West Bank, close to the Jordanian border, in case of any future escalation, Hebrew media reported on Wednesday.

According to the report, the air force is training for the first time on a hypothetical scenario to strike targets in settlements near the Jordanian border if an attack similar to 7 October 2023 were to happen. The exercise is described as part of lessons learned from the Hamas-led attack on 7 October.

The tactic aims to enable the air force to deliver heavy fire and carry out broad strikes even if central command collapses. Under the scenario, dozens of targets would be hit in the first hours of an expected attack, with hundreds of targets to follow later.

No Indictments for Colonizer Violence in the Occupied West Bank

Official Israeli police data reveals a staggering 73% drop in investigations into violent crimes committed by illegal paramilitary Israeli colonizers against Palestinians and their property in the occupied West Bank over the past two years.

According to Israel’s Channel 12, only 60 investigation files were opened in 2024—down from 150 in 2023 and 235 in 2022.

This marks a 58% drop in one year and a 73% overall decline. Despite a documented surge in colonizer attacks, including incidents resulting in Palestinian fatalities, not a single indictment was filed in 2024.

The Times of Israel reported that “not one settler was indicted in 2024 for attacks on Palestinians in the West Bank,” underscoring what rights groups describe as a collapse in law enforcement under far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir.

NEWS & HEADLINES ABOUT ISRAEL:

(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel accurately. IAK passes along only factual reporting.)

Israel wants to implement the death penalty for Palestinian prisoners. Here’s what you need to know.

Israel is one step closer to passing a law that would allow Israeli courts to sentence Palestinian prisoners to death. On Monday, the Israeli Knesset passed the bill in a first reading with a majority of 39 votes in favor against 16 in opposition.

The bill was presented as “exceptional” law, under a special status that allows it to be passed only with the majority of votes cast, and not the majority of the Knesset members, which is why absentees and abstentions were not counted. It still needs to pass two more readings before entering into force.

The law applies to individuals who are convicted for acts that led to the death of Israelis, if the acts were motivated by “racism or hostility towards the public” and “committed with the objective of harming the state of Israel or the rebirth of the Jewish people,” making it applicable exclusively to Palestinians (continue reading here).

Is the CMCC Covering for Israel? Gaza ‘Ceasefire Monitor’ Fuels Fears of a Hidden Agenda

As the United States pushes for an “International Stabilization Force” to be deployed to Gaza, little attention has been placed upon the Civilian-Military Coordination Center (CMCC) that was set up to monitor the ceasefire but is heavily slanted to protecting Israeli interests in the ceasefire agreement. In fact, Israel has defied the agreement constantly, with no repercussions.

The key question to be answered here is whether the CMCC is simply a failure or if its formation was part of a broader plan that intends to lead towards more nefarious outcomes in Gaza. It is totally conceivable that many are working inside the fold of CMCC out of necessity to try and ensure the bare minimum humanitarian relief for the people of Gaza.

Yet, at the same time, when this center is involved in actively ensuring the implementation of the ceasefire, then there are responsibilities placed upon those who involve themselves in it. Anyone who has full knowledge of ceasefire violations must pursue every avenue available to ensure this does not continue.

They have had over a month, and these ceasefire violations continue daily; civilians are still being murdered; the Israelis have violated the Yellow Line, continue to demolish civilian infrastructure, and block aid (continue reading here).
