ISRAELI STRIKE WIPES OUT ENTIRE FAMILY IN GAZA: Palestinian media say an entire family has been removed from Gaza’s civil registry following an Israeli air strike on the town of Bani Suhaila, east of Khan Younis. The attack reportedly killed Tariq Muhammad Abu Hajras, his wife, and their five children, and completely destroyed their home. This is the latest in a series of incidents where entire families have been erased from official records due to the scale of casualties in single air strikes.

Palestinian boy killed by air-dropped aid box in central Gaza

A 14-year-old Palestinian boy was killed and several people were injured Saturday when an aid box dropped by air fell on them in central Gaza, marking the fourth such fatal accident in recent days, medical sources said.

The sources told Anadolu that Muhannad Eid died after being struck in the head by a box in the Al-Nuwairi Hill area, west of the Nuseirat refugee camp. The exact number of injured was not immediately available.

Saturday’s tragedy follows three similar incidents since multiple countries began parachuting aid into Gaza on July 16, amid an Israeli blockade that has pushed the enclave into famine.

At least 23 Palestinians killed by airdropped aid since start of war, 13 drowned

Gaza’s Government Media Office reports that at least 23 Palestinians have been killed and 124 others injured as a result of airdrops of aid since the start of the war.

Many air drops fall in areas under Israeli military control. Some packages have also fallen into the sea, and 13 Palestinians drowned while trying to retrieve them.

Israel has been welcoming airdrops from various countries recently, though Gaza leaders have repeatedly warned of the danger, and 22,000 trucks loaded with aid reportedly remain at the crossings, waiting for Israeli permission to enter Gaza.

Bushra Khalidi, Oxfam’s Policy Lead in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, on Israel’s decision to take military control of Gaza City:

The decision to take direct military control of Gaza City marks a dangerous escalation in the ongoing illegal occupation of Palestinian territory; a brazen act of erasure carried out in full view of the world…

Reports of plans to forcibly remove the one million people still living in Gaza City and confine civilians in tightly controlled camps are profoundly alarming, evoking some of the darkest chapters of recent history…

The time for hollow words of condemnation is over…The UK, along with all powerful nations, must use every diplomatic, legal, and economic tool at its disposal, to stop this latest atrocity. Together, they must work for an immediate and permanent ceasefire to end the death and suffering, full access for humanitarian aid and to ensure the release of all hostages and unlawful Palestinian detainees.

History will not be kind to those who chose inaction in the face of Gaza’s obliteration.

Eighty years after Hiroshima, calls to ‘nuke Gaza’ show how little has been learned

On 22 May 2025, the register of all victims of the US atomic bombing of Hiroshima was brought out from its stone-chamber cenotaph at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, following a silent prayer at 8.15am – the exact time the bomb fell on 6 August 1945, 80 years ago.

The register lists 344,306 names, with one volume dedicated to those whose identities are unknown. Marking the 80th anniversary, the city allowed media to view the inside of the chamber for the first time.

That very same day, as Hiroshima quietly marked its dead, Republican Congressman Randy Fine went on Fox News to suggest that a nuclear weapon be dropped on Gaza. Despite his history of incendiary and extremist remarks, he was not the first US politician to make such a statement (continue reading here).

Somebody has been lying about Israeli military’s use of Azure cloud storage

Microsoft is investigating how Israel’s military surveillance agency, Unit 8200, is using its Azure cloud storage platform, amid concerns the company’s staff in Israel may have concealed key details about its work on sensitive military projects.

Senior executives are scrambling to assess what data Unit 8200 holds in Azure after a Guardian investigation, in partnership with +972 Magazine and Local Call, revealed how the spy agency has used the cloud platform to store a vast collection of intercepted Palestinian mobile phone calls.

Unit 8200 has used Azure to store recordings of millions of calls made each day in Gaza and the West Bank; intelligence drawn from the enormous repository of calls held in the cloud has been used to identify bombing targets in Gaza (continue reading here).

Members of Educators Union Say Its Capitulation to ADL Betrays Workers, Students

On July 5, the highest deliberative body of the country’s largest union, the National Education Association (NEA), voted at their 2025 Representative Assembly to call on the NEA to “not use, endorse, or publicize any materials from the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), such as its curricular materials or its statistics. NEA will not participate in ADL programs or publicize ADL professional development offerings.”

Less than two weeks later, the NEA board overturned this democratic decision from the delegates — yet another capitulation to an organization that many educators and others have called a bully.

The ADL, which has long represented itself as a civil right organization, was exposed as a right-wing, Israel-aligned political advocacy organization by #DropTheADL. More recent campaigns like Drop the ADL from Schools have argued it should not be considered a social justice partner to schools (continue reading here).

WHITEWASHING THE DEATH OF “PALESTINIAN PELE”: The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA)’s tribute to the late Suleiman Al-Obeid, said, “Farewell to Suleiman al-Obeid, the ‘Palestinian Pelé,’ a talent who gave hope to countless children, even in the darkest of times.” Al-Obeid, 41, was killed by an Israeli attack on civilians waiting for humanitarian aid in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday.

GERMAN PUBLIC TURNS SHARPLY AGAINST ISRAEL: According to an ARD-DeutschlandTREND survey released this week, 66% of Germans want their government to put more pressure on Israel to change its behavior. 47% think their government is doing too little for Palestinians. And only 31% of Germans feel they have a bigger responsibility for Israel due to their history – while 62% do not. Another recent poll asked, “Should Germany now recognize Palestine as its own state?” 54% said yes, 31% said no.
