Gaza City under relentless bombardment as Israel launches ground invasion

Israel has launched its long-planned ground assault on Gaza City, and its troops have pressed deep into the densely populated city, which has been subjected to intense bombardment for weeks, triggering the forced displacement of tens of thousands of Palestinians.

A large number of Israeli tanks and armored vehicles were seen advancing toward Gaza City, with the Israeli army saying a third division will soon join the ground invasion. Israel’s decision to seize the city – home to more than a million people – has drawn global condemnation.

The UN Human Rights Office in the occupied Palestinian territory has condemned the Israeli military’s “wanton destruction” of Gaza City as “tantamount to ethnic cleansing”.

Israeli army deploys booby-trapped armored vehicles into Gaza City amid heavy bombardment

The Israeli army on Tuesday deployed booby-trapped armored vehicles into Gaza City as part of a phased plan to destroy infrastructure and push nearly one million Palestinians into forced displacement, local media said.

Israel’s public broadcaster KAN said old M113 armored personnel carriers, packed with tons of explosives, were remotely driven into the city to detonate inside residential areas. Powerful explosions were heard overnight and into the morning across central and southern Israel as the vehicles went off in Gaza City.

More than 1 million Palestinians remain in northern Gaza: Authorities

The Gaza media office said out of 1.3 million people in Gaza City and towns to its north, about 190,000 have fled to the south while 15,000 returned to the north due to the dire conditions in the areas that the Israeli army had designated as “safe zones”.

The local authorities noted that Israel has been regularly attacking Rafah and al-Mawasi near Khan Younis, which it claimed were “safe zones,” and that the areas lack any essential services, “such as water, food, shelter, electricity or education, making living there almost impossible.”

Gaza City evacuation orders constitute ethnic cleansing, war crimes: Israeli rights groups

Israeli human rights organizations have called on Israeli officials to cancel the mass evacuation threat for Gaza City, saying such an order constitutes forced displacement and ethnic cleansing.

Israeli news outlet Haaretz reported that the organizations, which include the Association for Civil Rights in Israel (ACRI), Physicians for Human Rights, Gisha, and Adalah – the Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, said the threats are intended to “displace an exhausted and starving population that has nowhere to flee”.

It posited that the orders “do not stem from military necessity” and are “contrary to international law” and therefore should not be accepted.

Israel bombs Al-Rantisi Children’s Hospital three times in close succession

Dr. Muneer Al Bursh reports that Al-Rantisi Specialized Children’s Hospital in Gaza was struck three times in rapid succession, leaving 80 patients trapped across its departments, including four in pediatric intensive care and eight newborns in neonatal care.

As Gaza’s only specialized hospital, Al-Rantisi houses irreplaceable units, including oncology, dialysis, and specialized respiratory and gastrointestinal care.

The bombing forced 40 patients to flee under fire, while 40 others remained inside with their companions, alongside four critical care cases, eight fragile newborns, and 30 medical staff.

Dr. Mohammed Abu Salmiya, director of Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza, described the dire conditions facing premature infants in the city’s neonatal units, where six babies are being kept in a single incubator.

He warned that there is no capacity to accommodate them elsewhere in the Strip and stressed the real danger to their lives.

Only 534 aid trucks of estimated 3,000 entered Gaza in 5 days: Media office

Aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip remain far below needs, with just 534 trucks of estimated 3,000 entering over the past five days, the Government Media Office said Monday.

The office said trucks that did make it through “were looted in the midst of deliberate chaos orchestrated by the Israeli occupation to manufacture famine and instability and undermine the resilience of the Palestinian people.”

According to the office, a total of 3,188 trucks have reached Gaza over the past 35 days, representing less than 15 per cent of the estimated 21,000 trucks required to meet basic humanitarian needs.

‘Real estate bonanza’: Smotrich says Israel in discussion with U.S. over dividing Gaza

“The Gaza Strip is becoming a real estate bonanza,” and the plan is “on President Trump’s desk,” Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich said at the “Real Estate Center” conference. According to Smotrich, negotiations have begun with the U.S. regarding a business plan for Gaza.

“We paid a lot of money for the war, so we need to decide how to divide the percentages of the land in Gaza. The demolition phase is always the first phase of urban renewal. We did that, now we need to start building.”

After Bombing 6 Countries This Year, Netanyahu Pins Blame For Israeli Isolation on Muslims

In a rare admission on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Israel is facing isolation on the world stage after nearly two years of its genocide in Gaza — but didn’t acknowledge his own government’s role in the situation.

At the “Fifty States — One Israel” economic conference hosted by Israel’s Finance Ministry, Netanyahu blamed foreign countries and Muslims for Israel’s isolation.

He blamed “unlimited immigration to Western European nations by Muslim minorities,” and repeated false, bigoted statements about Muslim populations replacing non-Muslims to become the “majority” in the region.

Placing the blame of Israel’s isolation on the existence of Muslims is one of many blatantly Islamophobic statements made by Netanyahu and the state of Israel amid its genocide in Gaza (continue reading here).

Israeli Gov’t Says It Will Cut Israel Film Academy Funding After Film ‘Depicting Israel Negatively’ Wins

Funding for Israel’s top film awards will be suspended after the Culture and Sports Ministry claimed the winning film, about a Palestinian boy from the West Bank trying to see the sea for the first time, “defames” the IDF and Israel.

“The Sea” won the category for Best Film at the Israeli Film Academy’s Ophir Awards, which is the leading award ceremony for Israel’s film and television industry. The movie will go on to be considered at the Academy Awards in March 2026.

Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sports added the film “presents the Palestinian perspective and depicts the IDF and Israel in a negative light”, calling the win “outrageous” and claiming, without citation, that it angered “many Israeli citizens and IDF soldiers who dedicate their lives to defending the homeland,” prompting him to announce the withdrawal of government funding for the “embarrassing ceremony.”

UN report highlights responsibility of other states in Gaza genocide

The UN Commission of Inquiry, which today concluded that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza, underscored in its report that countries across the world have a responsibility to stop the Israeli atrocities.

The report said the International Court of Justice’s ruling in January 2024 that found it plausible that Israel was committing genocidal acts in Gaza put “all states on notice”.

“As such, the duty to prevent genocide was triggered,” it said. “Responsibility may be incurred if a State Party ‘manifestly failed to take all measures to prevent genocide which were within its power, and which might have contributed to preventing the genocide’.”

UN commission recognizes historical context of October 7th

Navi Pillay, head of the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territory, said Tuesday that while the genocide report refers solely to October 2023 – July 2025, the commission is seriously concerned that Israel intends “to destroy the Palestinians as a whole.”

“It is also important to note that the events in Gaza since October 7 have not occurred in isolation,” she said, adding, “They were preceded by decades of unlawful occupation and oppression under an ideology requiring the removal of the Palestinian population from their lands and their replacement.”

NOTE: Pillay’s recognition of the historical context of October 7th is a breath of fresh air to Palestinians and their allies. Israel supporters ignore the background, and imply that history began on October 7th, as though the Hamas fighters attacked Israel for no reason. In fact, Israel has been oppressing Palestinians since its creation in 1948, and even before that.

The people of Palestine have many legitimate grievances for which resistance is an appropriate response. Israel is, according to the International Court of Justice, plausibly committing genocide, illegal occupation, apartheid, extermination, and a targeted campaign of starvation – to name a few.

International law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power, even to the point of armed resistance.

Pope: Gaza ‘requires another solution’ as people flee city

Pope Leo XIV spoke briefly with reporters on Tuesday evening, where he was asked about the mass flight from Gaza City. The Pope said he had spoken by phone with the local community and the parish priest, Fr. Gabriel Romanelli.

“Many have nowhere to go, and so it is a concern,” he said. “I have also spoken with our people there, with the parish priest. For now they want to stay; they are still holding on, but we really need to look for another solution.”

Earlier in the day, Pope Leo had called Fr. Romanelli, pastor of the Holy Family Catholic parish in Gaza, to check on the 450 people taking refuge in the church compound as Israel intensifies its ground campaign in the city.

The family of Mohammed Ibrahim, a 16-year-old Palestinian American from the state of Florida, detained by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, is pleading for urgent US action to secure his release as his health deteriorates.

The teen, who spent his 16th birthday behind bars in March, has been held for seven months without contact from his parents. Relatives said he was arrested in February while visiting family in the West Bank.

He was charged with throwing stones at illegal Israeli settlers, an accusation his family said he denies (continue reading here).

The Doha attack: Exposing the collapse of international order

On 9 September 2025, Israel conducted its first-ever direct military strike on Qatar, targeting Hamas negotiators in Doha’s diplomatic quarter while they were reviewing a US-brokered ceasefire proposal.

The attack exposes the fundamental collapse of the international order established after World War II and demands urgent reconsideration of how global diplomacy and security function in the 21st century.

The Doha attack was not just its breach of sovereignty, but an assault on the very foundations of international mediation. Qatar has hosted Hamas diplomats at the explicit request of the United States, serving as a crucial mediator between Israel and Hamas throughout the Gaza conflict, and at the moment they were discussing a US ceasefire proposal (continue reading here).

A group of pro-Palestine and labor organizations, fan associations, athletes, celebrities, and human rights organizations is demanding that national soccer federations boycott Israel over its killing of hundreds of Palestinian athletes in Gaza.

The #GameOverIsrael campaign, which launched on Tuesday with a billboard in Times Square, calls on the soccer federations of Belgium, England, France, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Scotland, and Spain to refuse to play against Israel’s national and club teams and bar Israeli players in an effort to build pressure on FIFA and UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) to suspend the country (continue reading here).
