ISRAELI MILITARY DESTROYED TONS OF AID THAT SPOILED AT GAZA BORDER: Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan, reports that the military has destroyed and buried tens of thousands of aid items – including food and medical supplies – that spoiled after sitting too long at the Gaza border. Citing military sources, the report says the wasted aid amounted to the contents of roughly 1,000 trucks.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres address to the Amnesty International Global Assembly (excerpt)

“From the beginning, I have repeatedly condemned the horrific 7 October terror attacks by Hamas. But nothing can justify the explosion of death and destruction since. The scale and scope is beyond anything we have seen in recent times. I cannot explain the level of indifference and inaction we see by too many in the international community. The lack of compassion. The lack of truth. The lack of humanity.

“Our own heroic staff continue to serve in unimaginable conditions. Many are so numb and depleted that they say they feel neither dead nor alive. Children speak of wanting to go to heaven, because at least, they say, there is food there. We hold video calls with our own humanitarians who are starving before our eyes. This is not just a humanitarian crisis. It is a moral crisis that challenges the global conscience. We will continue to speak out at every opportunity. But words don’t feed hungry children.

“The United Nations stands ready to make the most of a possible ceasefire to dramatically scale up humanitarian operations across the Gaza Strip, as we successfully did during the previous pause in fighting. Our plans are ready, and they are finalized. We know what works – and we know what does not.

“We need action. An immediate and permanent ceasefire. The immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. Immediate and unimpeded humanitarian access.  At the same time, we need urgent, concrete and irreversible steps towards a two-State solution.”

Ceasefire talks collapse – Trump blames Hamas, stands firmly with Israel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former US President Donald Trump announced on 25 July that they would abandon ongoing Gaza ceasefire negotiations with Hamas.

“We are now exploring alternative paths to bring our hostages home and end Hamas’s rule in Gaza,” Netanyahu stated.

Trump backed the Israeli position and criticized Hamas directly. “They don’t want peace,” Trump said of the group. “Their leaders will now be hunted down,” adding, “Hamas really didn’t want to make a deal. I think they want to die. And it’s very bad. And it got to be to a point where you’re going to have to finish the job.”

Israeli PM Netanyahu has stated publicly that implementing the “Trump plan” is one of his conditions for ending the war, in which the US would take over Gaza, forcibly displace its Palestinian inhabitants and turn it into a “Riviera”.

“It’s widely understood that there are no real strategic objectives to fulfill militarily unless the ultimate goal is displacement,” Michael Hanna, a Middle East expert, said. “In the meantime, it appears the US is willing to stand by as famine deepens throughout Gaza.”

Hamas expressed bewilderment at the US position, saying it had made “a sincere commitment to the success of the mediators’ efforts” to reach a deal, and seeks a permanent ceasefire.

NOTE: Netanyahu has repeatedly delayed ceasefire agreements – he has said as much; Israeli media report it as well. It is also worth noting that about 130 of the hostages were freed due to negotiations; dozens have been killed in Israeli military operations.

3 Palestinians killed in West Bank – 2 of them teenagers

The Israeli army reportedly killed two Palestinians on Friday in the southern occupied West Bank, the first of which – ًWadea’ Mohammad Othman Samamra, age 19 – was allegedly “carrying a knife and attempted to stab,” before he was “neutralized” by a security guard. No Israeli forces were injured in the incident, according to an army statement.

Later, the army shot and killed a Palestinian man, Rabea’ Mohammad Yousef Taqatqa, 31, near the town of Beit Fajjar, south of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, and seized his body.

A third Palestinian, 16-year-old Palestinian child Mohammad Khaled Hasan Mabrouk, succumbed to critical injuries sustained two days earlier when Israeli occupation forces shot him during their invasion of Al-Ein refugee camp, west of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank.

WEST BANK ANNEXATION IS A “JUST RESPONSE” TO FRANCE’S RECOGNITION OF PALESTINE: Israel has escalated calls for an illegal annexation of the occupied West Bank, following French President Macron’s vow to recognize Palestinian statehood. “The decision of French President Macron to recognize the fictitious Palestinian state is a black stain in the history of France and direct assistance to terrorism*,” Israel’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Yariv Levin, said on 24 July. “The time has come to establish sovereignty over the West Bank as a historic and just response to the French decision [to recognize Palestine],” he added.

*NOTE: The use of the word “terrorist” for a group that resists occupation and oppression is a political, not fact-based choice. In reality, international law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power, the UN extending that right to the point of armed resistance.

ISRAEL’S BEN-GVIR DENIES GAZA’S STARVATION: Israel’s far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir on Friday claimed there is “no real hunger in Gaza,” contradicting the warnings of dozens of countries and international humanitarian organizations about the deepening famine in the besieged enclave. In a post on X, Ben Gvir said: “There is no real hunger in Gaza. If they were hungry, they would have returned the hostages home,” adding: “I support starving Hamas in Gaza.”

Drones hover above Gaza-bound aid ship ‘Handala,’ crew vows hunger strike if captured

The Freedom Flotilla Coalition said in a statement on Telegram, “In the past 45 minutes, 16 drones were seen flying above the Handala, some in pairs, some directly over the vessel.”

French National Assembly member Gabrielle Cathala, one of the 21 international activists aboard the ship, issued a voice message titled “Day 6,” that warned of a potential raid in the coming hours or by morning.

“We are united, in full solidarity, and prepared. Drones have begun to appear. If Wi-Fi is cut, strange things can happen. Do not worry about us. Think about the Palestinians. They are suffering. The genocide they are enduring is far worse than any risk we face here,” she said.

Earlier on Friday, the crew of the Handala announced that they will go on a hunger strike if the ship is intercepted by Israeli forces.

“This is day six. Yesterday, collectively, the crew announced that if the Israeli military attacks our vessel and prevents us from getting to Gaza, we will go on hunger strike immediately,” said Huwaida Arraf, an American activist and lawyer, in a recorded voice message published in a video on the Freedom Flotilla Coalition’s X account.

“We are not interested in receiving any food or water from the occupying genocidal power, and certainly not in the ways that they use it for propaganda, while at the same time they are starving to death Palestinian children,” added Arraf.
