‘No one is safe in Gaza, everyone is just waiting their turn’
Al Jazeera spoke to Nada Abu Alrub, an Australian doctor who has been volunteering at al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, about the situation at the facility, which she described as a “slaughterhouse” and a “graveyard”.
“It’s killing from every direction that you can ever imagine, psychologically, emotionally, physically – the type of injuries that I see the kids with, they are shredded into pieces, it’s unacceptable.”
Abu Alrun said it is incomprehensible how this situation is allowed to continue. “You just cannot understand why…no one is able to tell the Israeli [government] to stop the mass killing. No one is safe here, everyone is just waiting their turn.”’

Thousands of Palestinians return to Gaza City amid escalating Israeli offensive
While many Palestinians have fled Gaza City, tens of thousands of others are unwilling to leave their homes. Some have also returned to their homes in Gaza City after being displaced toward the south.
“We affirm that more than 900,000 Palestinians remain steadfast in Gaza City, holding onto their right to stay and firmly rejecting forced displacement and expulsion to the south, despite the horrific bombardment and genocidal crimes carried out by the Israeli occupation,” the Gaza Government Media Office said in a statement on Wednesday.
Those fleeing have been ordered to head south toward Al-Mawasi – a previously declared “safe zone” which has been hit with over 100 airstrikes since the start of the genocide in 2023, killing a total of 2,000 people, the media office went on to say. The area lacks the facilities, infrastructure, and essential services to accommodate displaced Palestinians.

Israel claims al-Shifa Hospital used for ‘terrorism’ in potential sign of more attacks
Indicating that more attacks may be directed towards what used to be the largest medical facility in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military claims al-Shifa Hospital was used by Hamas gunmen several days ago.
The army released aerial footage it said showed Hamas fighters entering an unspecified building of the hospital and turning it into a “manned terror command centre”, thereby “knowingly endangering the lives of patients, medical staff, and innocent residents”.
The Israeli military has repeatedly used the justification that it is fighting “terrorism” when destroying or badly damaging almost all medical facilities across Gaza.

Coalition of 25 European nations, Canada press Israel on Gaza medical corridor
A coalition of 25 European countries and Canada have appealed to Israel to open a route from Gaza to the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, so medical evacuations from Gaza can take place.
The nations are ready to provide “financial contributions, provision of medical staff or equipment needed” for treating tens of thousands of Gaza’s wounded in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem, but Israel must immediately lift restrictions on medical deliveries to Gaza, fully enable UN humanitarian work, and ensure medical personnel are protected.
