Netanyahu is coming to town, likely with war on his mind – Not a ceasefire Day 80

Compilation of news reports – IAK staff

(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 809th day.)

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 418 Palestinians. At least 1,142 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 969 times in 80 days. More statistics below.

Gaza storm kills Palestinian woman, child drowns

A Palestinian woman in Gaza, Alaa Marwan Juha, died Sunday as a winter storm threatens the lives of nearly 900,000 Palestinians living in tents across the devastated coastal enclave. The 30-year-old was killed when a wall collapsed onto her tent in the Remal neighborhood to the west of Gaza City.

A seven-year-old child lost his life after drowning in a well in the Northern Governorate, as Gaza Civil Defense worked to save dozens of flooded tents and open drains and sewers for water.

New investigation: Israeli airstrike kills 15 Abu Nahal family members in Gaza with unjustified precision

A new investigation by Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor has uncovered the full circumstances of a mass killing carried out by the Israeli army against the Abu Nahal family in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, last year.

The attack killed 15 civilians, including 13 children and women, without any warning or prior notice, and in the absence of any military necessity that could justify the precise and deliberate targeting as 16 members of the Abu Nahal family were gathered in one room around the dinner table, celebrating the marriage of their son Abdullah (continue reading here).

New figures show continuing trend of Israel’s deadly noncompliance with ceasefire agreement

Israel’s 969 ceasefire violations reportedly included 298 incidents of direct gunfire against civilians, 54 military incursions into residential areas, 455 bombing and targeting operations against people and their homes, 162 acts of destruction and bombardment, and 45 unlawful arrests.

In 80 days, only 19,764 aid trucks entered Gaza, instead of 48,000 trucks —an average of 253 trucks per day instead of the agreed 600 (42%); only 425 fuel trucks entered Gaza out of the 4,000 stipulated in the agreement (about 10%), leaving hospitals, bakeries, water facilities, and sewage stations on the brink of collapse.

Israeli authorities have also blocked the entry of tents, caravans, mobile homes, and shelter materials, in direct violation of the humanitarian agreement. Shelter collapses have caused at least 20 deaths; two children have died from extreme cold, while more than 127,000 tents were rendered unusable, leaving over 1.5 million displaced Palestinians without adequate shelter.

The current weather system across Gaza – the third polar low-pressure system this winter – has flooded and blown away thousands of displacement tents across the enclave, further intensifying the humanitarian emergency in the enclave.

Israeli Supreme Court approves mass demolition of Palestinian homes in West Bank

The Israeli Supreme Court quietly issued a ruling on 24 December that would allow for the destruction of about 25 Palestinian homes in the occupied West Bank refugee camp of Nur Shams, the Adalah rights group announced on Saturday.

The decision reportedly came after the state presented ‘secret evidence’ it claimed justified the destruction of the homes, despite the buildings being civilian homes.

NEWS & HEADLINES ABOUT ISRAEL:

(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. As has been demonstrated again and again, however, mainstream media rarely covers Israel accurately. IAK passes along only factual reporting.)

Netanyahu to Press for ‘Another Round of War With Iran’ in Meeting With Trump This Week

Last weekNBC News reported, “Netanyahu is expected to make the case to Trump that Iran’s expansion of its ballistic missile program poses a threat that could necessitate swift action” and that “the Israeli leader is expected to present Trump with options for the US to join or assist in any new military operations.”

Netanyahu also reportedly wants Trump to “take a tougher stance on Gaza and require that Hamas disarm before Israeli troops further withdraw as part of the second phase of Trump’s 20-point peace plan.” Netanyahu also seeks Trump’s continued backing of Israel’s territorial expansion in Syria.

“Taken together, Netanyahu’s visit is less about resolving any single crisis than about postponing strategic reckoning,” said Sina Toossi, a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy.. “The outcome will signal whether Washington is prepared to continue underwriting open-ended escalation, or whether this meeting marks the beginning of clearer limits on Israel’s regional strategy” (continue reading here).

Israeli prime minister’s US itinerary

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu left Tel Aviv on Sunday for the US, where he is expected to meet President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

On Monday, the Israeli premier will reportedly meet US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, then Trump. Tuesday could see a meeting with US Vice President J.D. Vance. Wednesday, Netanyahu is scheduled to meet US evangelical figures, then attend an event at a synagogue in Miami, where he will meet with Congress members and Jewish leaders. Netanyahu will conclude the visit on Thursday.

Any Israeli presence in Somaliland will be a ‘target’: Houthi leader

Israel announced on Friday that it is officially recognizing Somaliland, a first for the self-proclaimed republic that in 1991 declared it unilaterally separated from Somalia.

The Houthi chief warned that the move carried grave consequences: “We consider any Israeli presence in Somaliland a military target for our armed forces…a hostile stance targeting Somalia and its African surroundings, as well as Yemen, the Red Sea, and the countries along both shores of the Red Sea.”

Regional analysts say a rapprochement with Somaliland would provide Israel with better access to the Red Sea, enabling it to hit Houthi rebels in Yemen (continue reading here).

Israel has claimed to be in contact with Somaliland over the potential resettlement of forcibly displaced Palestinians from Gaza. Forced population transfer is a crime against humanity, and a form of ethnic cleansing.

Medical Neglect Deepens Suffering of Palestinian Detainees* in Israeli Prisons

A series of alarming medical cases among prisoners held in Israel’s Ofer and Megiddo facilities point to systemic neglect.

*NOTE: The vast majority of Palestinians being held in Israeli prisons are political prisoners; thousands are administrative detainees, being kept behind bars without charge, trial, or access to a lawyer. A growing number are children. Administrative detention is intended to be used only in “exceptional” circumstances, but Israel uses it widely. (Read more here.)

Israeli prisons regularly use torture (and have done so for over 50 years).

Each year, hundreds of Palestinians (many of them minors) are imprisoned for throwing stones, which can carry a sentence of up to 20 years (for Palestinians, not Israeli Jews).

Recently released Palestinian prisoners show signs of malnutrition, medical negligence, and torture. Many reportedly had their legs bound to tightly for so long, that they got gangrene, and were subject to amputations (without anesthesia) while in prison.

Tucker Carlson Talks Israel and Antisemitism

The United States has somehow tied itself to the anchor of Gaza. Like, why are we responsible for Bibi’s mass murder? Well, we are now. Partly because so many Americans have been told over and over and over: Your destiny is intertwined with Israel, Israel’s our most important ally, etc.

There is no sense in which Israel is an important ally; it’s not even an ally. It’s a liability. But people have been told that again and again, just like they’ve been told I’m an antisemite. By the way, I got the award for “Antisemite of the Year” two days after I gave a speech saying antisemitism was immoral.

So what does that tell you? It tells you that the people creating the propaganda and disseminating it have zero interest in the reality of any question (continue reading here).

When Palestinian existence is portrayed as hate

I am a Palestinian. And increasingly, that fact alone is treated as a provocation.

In recent months, I have watched anti-Semitism — a real, lethal form of hatred with a long and horrific history — be stripped of its meaning and weaponized to silence Palestinians, criminalize solidarity with us, and shield Israel from accountability as it carries out a genocide in Gaza. This is not about protecting Jewish people. It is about protecting power (continue reading here).
