Israel preparing for another, more intense Gaza offensive – Not a ceasefire Day 123

Compilation of news reports – IAK staff

(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 849th day.)

Israeli forces killed nine Palestinians in the Gaza Strip on Monday, amid daily violations of a ceasefire agreement.

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 587 Palestinians. Over 1,550 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 1,520 times (as of Feb. 1, 2026). More statistics below.

The president of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Mirjana Spoljaric Egger, has warned that the destruction in Gaza represents a collapse of all international standards. “What we have seen in Gaza exceeds all legal, ethical, moral and humanitarian norms,” she stated in an interview with Dutch newspaper NRC, this week. “Gaza may have provided the most tangible evidence of the erosion of international law,” she explained.

Another low volume day at Rafah crossing

Just 40 Palestinians were evacuated from Gaza through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt, which operates under strict Israeli restrictions. The group included 20 patients and 20 companions to receive treatment in hospitals outside the enclave.

About 22,000 wounded and sick Palestinians hope to leave the territory for treatment abroad, amid what officials describe as a catastrophic collapse of the health sector following Israel’s genocidal war. Roughly 2,000 Gazan students are waiting to exit Gaza for university opportunities abroad.

Trump opposes* Israeli annexation of occupied West Bank: White House

United States President Donald Trump opposes Israel’s annexation of the occupied West Bank, a White House official said on Monday: “A stable West Bank keeps Israel secure, and is in line with this administration’s goal to achieve peace in the region.”

The comment from the White House comes amid international outrage after Israel’s far-right finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, and defense minister, Israel Katz, announced new measures on Sunday extending Israeli control over occupied Palestinian territory, and make it easier for Israelis to acquire land for new settlements, which are illegal under international law.

*NOTE: Trump is not alone: Israel would be hard pressed to find a world leader that approves of the new policies. Statements of disapproval came from the UN, the EU, Spain, the UK, Germany, Egypt, Jordan, and many others.

Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now said in a paper released late Sunday, that the Israeli government’s new policies “will allow Israelis to purchase land in the territories almost without limitation and without government oversight,” and will “give a small number of settlers the power to determine political facts on the ground without government intervention, and will open the door to an industry of forged real-estate transactions.”

According to UN data, at least 13,800 homes have been demolished, displacing over 22,000 Palestinians, since 2009.

(Israel is a tiny country, about the size of New Jersey, with a population smaller than the US state of Georgia – about 10 million (of which about 20 percent are Palestinians), yet it is in the news constantly. Israeli minister promises to pass ‘allegiance’ to Israel law

Israel’s energy and infrastructure minister, Eli Cohen, said on X, “Soon we will pass a law that will require every Knesset member, at the swearing-in ceremony to the Knesset, to pledge allegiance to Israel as a Jewish and democratic state,” adding that Palestinian members of parliament opposing these titles will “have no place in the Knesset of Israel.” The 120-seat Knesset includes about 10 Palestinians.

Israeli troops raid Lebanese* village, abduct member of Muslim Brotherhood-linked group, kill three

Israeli forces abducted a member of the Muslim Brotherhood-linked Islamic Group in southern Lebanon early on 9 February, marking yet another kidnapping and coinciding with continuous violations of the so-called ceasefire agreement. Also on Monday morning, an Israeli drone strike killed three people, including a four-year-old boy.

*NOTE: Although Israel signed a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in November 2024, Israel has attacked Lebanon almost every day since, committing over 10,000 air and ground violations – the most violated ceasefire deal in recorded history – and killing over 300. Additionally, Israel continues to occupy five Lebanese hilltops seized during the latest war, and other Lebanese areas it has held for decades.

An Israeli strike in southern Lebanon on Feb. 9, 2026 killed 3. Among those killed were a four-year-old boy, Ali Jaber, and his father, Hassan, both killed instantly in the strike.

Should hostilities renew, fighting is liable to be more intense and more widespread than previous rounds, as Israeli forces will no longer constrained by the presence of hostages on Gazan soil.

Netanyahu: ‘We must prevent the Egyptian* military from becoming too strong’

The prime minister made the remarks during a closed-door discussion of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. “We have a relationship with them, but this needs to be monitored,” he said.

*NOTE: Israel is already meddling in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran – in addition to Gaza and the West Bank – in the name of “security.” Many of Israel’s actions have violated other states’ sovereignty and international law.
