ISRAELI ATTACK ON DOHA:
Hamas says 5 members killed in Israeli strike on Qatari capital, negotiating team survived

Trump says US tip to Qatar was ‘too late to stop the attack’
In a long-awaited social media post, the US president echoes an earlier White House statement about the attack in Qatar – with a few edits.
The White House had suggested earlier that the US informed Qatar of the attack before it happened, a claim that Doha was quick to deny.
Now, Trump appears to be backtracking on that statement.
“I immediately directed Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to inform the Qataris of the impending attack, which he did, however, unfortunately, too late to stop the attack,” the US president said.
Trump also said he directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to finalize a defense cooperation agreement with Qatar.
Qatar denies being informed of Israeli attack
Majed al-Ansari, spokesperson for Qatar’s Foreign Ministry, denies the White House claims that the US informed Qatar about the Israeli strikes before they took place.
“The statements being circulated that the State of Qatar was pre-informed of the attack are completely false,” al-Ansari said in a statement.
“The call that was received from an American official came during the sound of the explosions that resulted from the Israeli attack in Doha.”
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt had said earlier that after being told about Israel’s plan, “Trump immediately directed Special Envoy Witkoff to inform the Qataris of the impending attack, which he did”.

Trump spoke with Netanyahu after strike
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that US President Donald Trump sees the attack as an “opportunity for peace”, despite widespread condemnation and speculation that the strike could deal a serious blow to any Gaza negotiation efforts. The White House says the two leaders spoke after the attack.
“The prime minister told President Trump that he wants to make peace, and quickly,” said Leavitt. “President Trump believes that this unfortunate incident could serve as an opportunity for peace.”

‘Israel takes full responsibility’ for Doha attack: Netanyahu’s office
The office of the Israeli prime minister suggests that Israel acted alone in its attack on Doha.
“Today’s action against the top terrorist* chieftains of Hamas was a wholly independent Israeli operation,” Netanyahu’s office said in a social media post.
“Israel initiated it, Israel conducted it, and Israel takes full responsibility.”
Neither the Israeli military nor Netanyahu explicitly referred to the location of the attack in the Qatari capital in their statements.
*NOTE: The use of the word “terrorist” for a group that resists occupation and oppression is a political, not fact-based choice. In reality, international law supports the efforts of resistance groups against an occupying power, the UN extending that right to the point of armed resistance.
Netanyahu, Katz say Doha attack ‘completely justified’
In a joint statement, the Israeli prime minister and his defense minister link the attack in Doha to the East Jerusalem shooting that killed six Israelis yesterday.
“The prime minister and defense minister believed the operation was completely justified in light of the fact that this Hamas leadership initiated and organized the October 7 massacre, and has not ceased to launch murderous actions against the State of Israel and its citizens since then,” the statement said.
The strikes on Doha, which targeted a residential neighborhood, appear to violate several provisions of international law, including the UN Charter’s prohibition on aggression against independent states.
Which Hamas leaders has Israel assassinated recently?
Israel has killed several senior Hamas leaders as it targeted the Palestinian group after its attack on October 7, 2023.
- January 2024: An Israeli drone struck a building in southern Beirut, Lebanon, killing Hamas’ deputy head Saleh al-Arouri.
- March 2024: A strike on Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza killed Marwan Issa, the deputy leader of the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas.
- July 2024: The political leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran, Iran’s capital, where he had travelled for the inauguration of the country’s new president.
- October 2024: Israeli forces killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in southern Gaza.
Which countries has Israel bombed recently?
The Israeli military strikes targeting Doha underscore Israel’s ever-expanding military campaign in the region.
Over the past weeks, Israel has been bombing Gaza and the West Bank in Palestine, while also regularly carrying out strikes in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen, and Iran.
Yesterday, a suspected Israeli drone also targeted a Gaza-bound humanitarian flotilla docked in Tunisia.
Israeli attack blew up more than a compound in Doha
Speaking at a U.S. embassy event just a few hours after the attack, Netanyahu bragged that the daring move had “impressed the world” [in fact, the attack was almost universally denounced].
But the strike in Doha killed any hope of a ceasefire deal in the near future that could save the lives of the 20 remaining hostages suffering in the tunnels of Gaza, and bring back the bodies of another 28 for burial.
And if it wasn’t already glaringly obvious that the blowing up of a Hamas compound in Doha would also blow up the ceasefire talks, Qatar made it official. It will no longer serve as the mediator for a Gaza truce, and negotiations have been suspended.

Most Gaza City residents refusing to leave: Gaza authorities
Gaza’s Government Media Office says more than 1.3 million people remain in Gaza City and areas north of the enclave’s most populous city as the Israeli army “attempts to carry out the crime of forced displacement in violation of all international laws”.
It said in a statement that some people who left Gaza City for al-Mawasi in the south were forced to return due to worsening living conditions in the south.
About 800,000 people live in the al-Mawasi areas of the Khan Younis and Rafah governorates, according to the office. Israel has designated it as a “safe zone” but, according to the Government Media Office, has attacked it at least 109 times, killing more than 2,000 people.
Israel made 7,600 homeless in Gaza City in 72 hours
Gaza’s Civil Defense says five high-rise buildings, each with more than seven floors, have been bombed by the Israeli army over the past three days.
Together, they contained 209 apartment units, each sheltering at least 20 people during the state of emergency, meaning more than 4,100 Palestinians, many of them children, were left homeless.
More than 350 tents were also reportedly destroyed, each sheltering 10 people.
These people are “now living in the open, deprived of the most basic necessities of life, struggling against death, hunger, and unbearable heat in a catastrophic scene beyond description”.

Family home demolitions in West Bank part of a pattern of collective punishment
Israeli forces have blown up the house of a Palestinian detainee who was accused of carrying out a deadly shooting attack on a bus in the occupied West Bank in December. The demolition leaves the detainee’s wife, parents and three children homeless.
It’s part of a pattern of punitive actions targeting the families of Palestinian suspects in recent years. Israeli ministers pledged to continue the practice with in the wake of Monday’s shootings to act as a deterrent against future attacks.
The Israeli army says it is preparing to demolish the homes of the two Palestinian suspects from Monday’s shooting attack.
Israeli human rights group B’Tselem has documented at least 26 homes demolished in the occupied West Bank as a punitive measure in 2025, displacing more than 70 Palestinians.

Israeli soldier who fought in Gaza commits suicide on his wedding day, exposing army’s deep crisis
An Israeli reserve soldier who took part in the genocide in Gaza committed suicide on Tuesday in his apartment in the central Israeli city of Rehovot, on the very day of his wedding, according to the Hebrew daily Maariv.
The paper reported that the 31-year-old soldier was scheduled to be married that evening but was found dead in his home after taking his own life. Ambulance crews arriving at the scene pronounced him dead, and police said circumstances remain under investigation.
The incident adds to what Israeli media have described as an alarming rise in suicides among army personnel, especially reservists, since October 2023, when Israel launched its genocidal war on Gaza.

Gaza Sumud flotilla reports second drone attack on boat in Tunisian waters
International aid initiative Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) said one of its boats was attacked by a drone at Tunisia’s Sidi Bou Said port, the second such strike in two days.
The GSF, which is seeking to break Israel’s naval blockade and deliver humanitarian aid to war-torn Gaza using civilian boats, said in a statement that all passengers and crew were unharmed.
GSF reported the first attack on Tuesday, saying one of its vessels had been struck by a drone in Tunisian waters, reports Tunisian authorities said were false.
The flotilla posted a video on Instagram of the alleged attack, showing a luminous object hitting the boat and fire erupting immediately afterwards on board. Reuters was not immediately able to verify the video.
NOTE: On June 8, 1967, 34 American servicemen were killed (see list with photos and bios) and 174 were wounded during an Israeli attack on the USS Liberty. According to former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Thomas Moorer, “Those men were then betrayed and left to die by our own government.” The survivors are still awaiting justice. Progressives Urge U.S. Arms Embargo After Israel Bombs Qatar
Israel’s bombing of the Qatari capital Doha on Tuesday marked the sixth country the powerful U.S. ally attacked so far this year.
U.S. and Israeli officials told CNN and other outlets on Tuesday that Israel — which the U.S. arms to the tune of billions of dollars each year — gave President Donald Trump’s administration advance warning before carrying out the strike.
“In the past two years, Israel has bombed nation after nation with no repercussions—all while conducting a genocide and manufacturing a famine in Gaza using U.S. taxpayer dollars,” said Rep. Summer Lee, D-Penn. “There must be accountability for Israel’s unchecked power and destabilization of the region. The United States must implement an arms embargo immediately” (continue reading here).
