Shrinking Palestine
Palestinians in Gaza are finding themselves crowded into just 14% of their land, while the rest is under Israeli military control.
Notice on the map to the left how little white area is left for the population of 2 million.
Also notice that anyone in northern Gaza must pass through military and/or evacuation zones in order to reach aid distribution points, and that aid distribution points themselves are also in dangerous areas.

Israeli forces have destroyed thousands of residential towers, buildings, tents
Gaza’s Government Media Office has released a statement in which it says Israeli forces have caused “the complete destruction of more than 1,600 multi-story residential towers and buildings, the severe destruction of more than 2,000 residential towers and buildings, and the destruction of more than 13,000 tents housing displaced persons”.
Since the start of September, Israeli forces have “destroyed and demolished 70 residential towers and buildings, severely destroyed 120 residential towers and buildings, and more than 3,500 tents”, the statement read.
Thousands displaced as Israel targets UNRWA schools sheltering civilians in Gaza City
Israeli airstrikes on Saturday leveled three schools run by the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) in Gaza City, displacing thousands of civilians who had been sheltering there from months of bombardment.
They said the military had issued phone warnings for evacuation but gave families little time to collect belongings before the bombardment began. Residents described scenes of panic as people rushed into the streets under fire, leaving behind food, mattresses and documents.
“In 30 years of humanitarian work, I have never encountered such blatant disregard for the protected status of humanitarian workers, facilities, and operations under international law,” Philippe Lazzarini said in a CNN video report, “How Israeli military actions led to Gaza’s famine,” shared by UNRWA on US social media company X Saturday.

Israel continues to block entry of shelter materials, as over half the population of Gaza need shelter
The Gaza government said more than 1,600 multi-story residential buildings were completely destroyed, over 2,000 residential buildings were severely damaged, and more than 13,000 tents sheltering displaced persons were destroyed since Israel began targeting Gaza City’s residential areas on Aug. 11, 2025.
Over 1.3 million Gazans (more than half the population) are already in need of tents, according to the UN, and that number rises with every evacuation order.
Israel blocked the entry of tents and shelter materials for at least five months, claiming the tent poles could be used for a military purpose. During that time alone, more than 700,000 people were displaced or re-displaced, but announced in mid-August that it would renew the supply of tents and shelter equipment, as part of the IDF plan to “move the population from combat zones to the southern Gaza Strip for their protection.”
An Israeli spokesperson claimed that 5,000 tents had entered Gaza in the first three weeks, but international NGOs reported they had not been given authorization to deliver any such materials. One UN group recently said that more than 86,000 tents and other supplies were still awaiting clearance to enter Gaza as of last week.
In April 2024, the Israeli defense ministry claimed it was purchasing 40,000 tents ahead of the planned evacuation of Rafah, but there is no apparent evidence that it ever happened.

Displaced Palestinians struggling to find a spot for their tents in al-Mawasi
Some people are leaving al-Mawasi and some people are staying on the streets because of the overcrowded conditions. Palestinians are left not knowing what to do.
Before Israel’s invasion of Gaza City, this area was already overcrowded with displaced people. Now the Palestinians coming from Gaza City and northern Gaza are not finding a place where they can set up a tent.
Al-Rashid Road, the only road that connects the north to the south now, is very busy. People are waiting for hours to pass through. But Palestinians are continuing to come to try to find a spot. Most Palestinians are left without any other choice.
Despite intense bombardment in Gaza City, many residents have stayed put – or returned after seeking shelter elsewhere – because many of Israel’s designated evacuation zones are desperately overcrowded and under-resourced, including lacking proper water access.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made his first official stop in Israel on Sunday at the Western Wall (Al-Buraq Wall) of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied East Jerusalem.
Rubio was accompanied by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee during his visit to the flashpoint site, Israel’s public broadcaster KAN said.

Global Sumud Flotilla vessels set sail for blockaded Gaza
The first boats of the Global Sumud Flotilla departed Tunisia’s Bizerte Port and Sicily’s Augusta Port towards the Israel-blockaded Gaza Strip on Saturday, organizers said.
The two groups of vessels, along with other groups that have already set sail or will set sail, will converge in international waters “and sail together in the largest maritime mission toward Gaza.”
“The world is rising. We will continue to challenge Israel’s illegal siege on Gaza and will not stop mobilizing until Palestine is free,” the statement said.
The Gaza-bound flotilla includes nearly 50 vessels, carrying between 500 and 700 activists, including artists, parliamentarians, and prominent political figures, from more than 45 countries.
The convoy is the largest of its kind to date, as previous attempts involved single ships that Israel intercepted at sea.

Women-only vessel joins Gaza flotilla
A boat crewed entirely by women has joined the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla, with participants saying their voyage is meant as a tribute to the strength of Palestinian women living under Israel’s blockade.
Fifteen activists from Europe, Latin America and Asia boarded the vessel in the Tunisian port of Bizerte, preparing to link up with dozens of other ships making the journey.
“Palestinian women symbolise courage and determination in the face of devastation,” said Malika, a nurse from France. “We chose to dedicate one boat solely to women as a gesture of solidarity and respect”(continue reading here).

Egypt discovers Israeli attempts to kill Hamas leaders on its soil
According to a high-level Egyptian security source, “Intelligence reports suggest that Israel has been plotting to assassinate Hamas leaders in Cairo for some time, as Egypt had already foiled an earlier attempt during ceasefire negotiations in the city over the past two years.”
On Tuesday, around 12 air strikes struck residential buildings in the Qatari capital, Doha, about 4pm local time (1pm GMT), targeting Hamas leadership, an attack that has sparked condemnations across the region.
The senior Egyptian officials’ statements came in response to threats by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel would target Hamas in other countries (continue reading here).

People in 100 cities around the world to go on hunger strike for Gaza
The Popular Movement in Support of Gaza announced from the city of Al-Bireh in the occupied West Bank that the global hunger strike will take place between 16 and 23 September.
The hunger strike comes after hundreds of people in Gaza perished from hunger and malnutrition due to Israel blocking aid to the territory. Many of these were children.
The open hunger strike initiative, which began in July, has evolved into a global campaign dubbed “We Are All Gaza… We Are All Palestine”, Palestinian National Congress Secretary Ahmed Ghoneim told The New Arab’s sister site, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed (continue reading here).
