(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 847th day.)

The Ministry of Health in Gaza released its latest daily update on Saturday, confirming that two Palestinians were killed in the past twenty‑four hours as a result of ongoing Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip.

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 576 Palestinians (288 children, women, and elderly). At least 1,543 have been injured. Death toll figures are tentative.

At least 25 Palestinians in Gaza have died due to the extreme cold, including 21 children, since the start of Israel’s genocidal war in October 2023. At least 11 Palestinian children have died of extreme cold this winter.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 1,520 times (as of Feb. 1, 2026). More statistics below.

Gazans resume weddings in attempt to return to normal life after two years of war

Although the ceremonies taking place are modest and much smaller in size, Palestinians say the choice to resume weddings is an act of defiance in order to continue normal life live despite the widescale devastation brought about by two years of genocidal Israeli war.

Prior to October 2023, weddings in Gaza were major social occasions marked with huge parties, musical celebrations, street gatherings, and abundant family meals; today, ceremonies are instead hosted at homes or small halls if available. Estimates suggest that 93% of Gaza’s hotels, tourist facilities and wedding halls have been destroyed in Israeli bombardments.

Hamas on Saturday called for serious pressure on Israel to facilitate the entry of the 12-member technocratic committee into Gaza to oversee the territory’s governance, saying Israel’s ongoing attacks undermine the ceasefire agreement.

Under the US-led “Board of Peace” in charge of overseeing Gaza’s post-war affairs, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG) is made up of 12 Palestinian technocrats who will act as interim government in the enclave. Despite being formed last month, the technocratic committee is still based in Egypt – a key broker in the Gaza ceasefire – and has not yet entered Gaza to begin its work.

Israeli settlers storm Gaza to ‘plant trees’ in bid to establish Jewish settlement

Hundreds of Israeli settlers held a protest and briefly entered Gaza on 7 February as part of a broader effort to establish Jewish settlements on the ruins. “Gaza belongs solely to the people of Israel! The time has come to settle in Gaza!” the Nachala settlement movement stated in a post on social media documenting the protest.

A Knesset member spoke at the event: “The nation of Israel’s rebirth will come when an Israeli flag flies over Gaza — when Jewish communities thrive in Gaza. That will be the absolute victory over absolute evil,” he said. “We will not surrender to Trump’s dictates: No to an international Gaza, yes to a Jewish Gaza,” one of the slogans read.
