Gaza’s child amputees have to get creative if they want to walk again – Not a Ceasefire Day 47

Compilation of news reports – IAK staff

(While a “ceasefire” is ostensibly in place, Israel has continued its assault on Gaza without interruption. If Americans Knew considers the war to be ongoing, and in its 779th day.)

Since the “ceasefire” began on October 11, Israel has killed at least 347 Palestinians. Among them are at least 67 children. Death toll figures are tentative.

Israel has so far violated the 11 October ceasefire deal in Gaza at least 497 times.

Child Amputees in Gaza Use Makeshift Prosthetics as Israel Restricts Medical Supplies

In September, the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities reported that at least 21,000 Palestinian children had been disabled in Gaza since October 2023. Earlier this month, the Ministry of Health announced that over 6,000 amputation cases had been registered, with children comprising 25% of the total, making Gaza home to the highest number of child amputees per capita in the world.

One medical facility that specializes in molding and creating prosthetics has run out of raw materials as Israel continues to heavily restrict medical supplies to Gaza in violation of the ceasefire agreement. Ahmed Jamal Al-Absi, the head of the prosthetics department at Hamad Hospital, told Drop Site, “The materials are running out after fitting about 100 prosthetic limbs. Now we are entering a situation where there can be no prosthetic limbs. Since 2023, no materials for prosthetics have entered the stock. We are trying hard, along with international organizations and our partner institutions, to coordinate the entry of these materials due to the closure of the crossings” (continue reading here).

Israel army advancing beyond Gaza’s Yellow Line with new incursions

The Israeli army is continuing its daily ceasefire violations in the Gaza Strip by advancing westwards beyond the Yellow demarcation Line that splits the occupied Palestinian enclave in two, along with regular airstrikes and forced displacement.

Over the past three days, Israeli forces have moved concrete blocks that demarcate the so-called Yellow Line – areas under Israeli military control – seizing more land in the area. Israeli troops have also targeted residents, forcing them to leave their homes.

In some neighborhoods, Israel has advanced 400-450 meters. Before these actions, Israel was already in control of 52% of Gaza (continue reading here).

Under heavy rains, shelters “simply sink into the mud”

Heavy rains in southern Gaza Tuesday morning flooded displacement camps, collapsing hundreds of tents and leaving families exposed to cold and disease.

Rescue crews struggled to reach families in al‑Mawasi, Khan Younis, as dozens of tents collapsed under rain and floodwaters. Displaced residents said, “hundreds of shelters simply sank into the mud,” leaving families exposed to the cold.

Heavy rain also flooded the Kuwaiti Field Hospital in Gaza, inundating the surgery ward and forcing the facility to suspend operations until the water could be removed and the damage assessed.

Israeli military claims* winter supplies are on their way

The Israeli military’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories, or COGAT, which has a central role in allowing distribution of aid to the Gaza Strip, defended its policies on Tuesday amid the devastating rain across the Strip.

“Over the last few months, in preparation for the winter and protection from the rain, COGAT coordinated with the international community a dedicated response to the winter,” a statement on X read.

“The effort is ongoing: Additional winter-related requests by international organizations have already been approved, and entry will take place in the coming days in accordance with the organizations’ coordination,” it said.

*NOTE: This is the 3rd winter of the genocide on Gaza. Israel is making claims that it will provide for the people of Gaza as it has done at the beginning of every season. Every time, it has refused to follow through, imposing intolerable conditions and keeping the people on the edge of famine and in some areas, in actual famine.

As a de facto occupier of Gaza, the law of armed conflict obligates Israel to provide accommodations for people temporarily evacuated from their homes, ensure that the civilian population is provided with supplies essential to the survival, including basic food and medical supplies as well as clothing, bedding, and means of shelter.

Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly stated that they have large quantities of sheltering materials, food, and medical supplies waiting just outside the border, but Israel does not allow them into the Strip.

Israel’s claims and promises carry little weight: historically, Israel has lied to the US and the world many times. Among Israel’s lies are numerous atrocity stories about the October 7th attack that have since been proven untrue (more examples here). The Israeli military has also disseminated false stories about its own actions throughout the war. Previously, Israel has been caught in many lies – for examples, see this and this. Many of Israel’s lies have been debunked even by traditionally pro-Israel mainstream media.

Pope Francis’ popemobile turned into mobile clinic to treat Gaza children

The West Bank city of Bethlehem is preparing to send the popemobile of late Pope Francis to the Gaza Strip after transforming it into a mobile clinic to be used to treat Palestinian children injured in Israel’s genocidal war.

“The Vehicle of Hope is a great wish that we hope will reach Gaza to serve its children and families,” Father Ibrahim Faltas, adviser to the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land, said during an event in Bethlehem.

“This is the car that Pope Francis used during his 2014 visit to Bethlehem,” he said. “Today, we hope it will become a humanitarian tool to treat the wounded” (continue reading here).

Israeli Forces Kill Palestinian in Jenin

Israeli occupation forces assassinated a Palestinian Sultan Nidal Abdul-Aziz, 22, Tuesday afternoon after surrounding a house in the village of Merka, south of Jenin, in the northern occupied West Bank.

Witnesses said soldiers encircled the house, showered it with live ammunition and grenades, and later seized Abdul-Aziz’s body before withdrawing.

The Israeli military claimed that Abdul‑Aziz was involved in an attack on August 18, 2024, in which an Israeli colonizer was killed inside the industrial zone near the illegal colony of Kedumim.

Israeli Forces Abduct 50 Palestinians Across West Bank

The Palestinian Prisoners’ Society (PPS) said Tuesday that Israeli occupation forces abducted at least 50 Palestinians overnight until Tuesday morning in widespread campaigns across the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem.

Abduction operations are generally accompanied by violent assaults including beatings, home invasions, destruction of property, and in some cases the use of abductees as hostages to pressure “wanted” relatives to surrender. Soldiers often force families, including children, out into the cold and rain, and have also fired live ammunition directly at civilians during these campaigns.

The Prisoners’ Society emphasized that mass abductions remain one of the occupation’s systematic and entrenched policies, targeting all segments of Palestinian society.

B’Tselem: Settlers unpunished for 21 killings in West Bank ‘ethnic cleansing’

The Israeli human rights group B’Tselem noted that the military has been enforcing “an increasingly permissive and reckless open-fire policy” in the Palestinian territory, including the use of air strikes, since 7 October 2023.

The military has also armed “thousands of settlers” while turning a blind eye to their near-daily bloody attacks on Palestinian civilians.

In a social media post on Monday, B’Tselem said there have been 21 cases of settlers killing Palestinians since October 2023, but “not a single perpetrator has been convicted” (continue reading here).
