UNRWA: ONE IN THREE CHILDREN IN GAZA HAVE GONE A FULL DAY WITHOUT FOOD: The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) says one in three children in Gaza did not eat at all during the past 24 hours due to severe food shortages caused by Israel’s crippling blockade. Many have been forced into child labour or begging to survive.

UN: ISRAEL STRIKES GAZA EVERY 8-9 MINUTES: UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said at a news conference that “Israeli forces have stepped up their operations over the past 24 hours, with devastating consequences for civilians. On average, this meant an airstrike every eight or nine minutes.”

UN still facing Israeli ‘obstacles, impediments’ to delivering much-needed aid in Gaza

UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher has reiterated that Palestinians in famine-struck Gaza are starving. “We’re still facing these terrible obstacles, impediments to delivering aid, coming from the Israeli authorities,” Fletcher told Al Jazeera.

While there have been cases of looting on the ground by “desperate, starving, civilians”, the majority of aid trucks are still being blocked from entering the Strip. That contradicts Netanyahu’s comments earlier at the UN, implying that Israel was not starving Gaza, but instead feeding the people of the Palestinian enclave.

NETANYAHU AT UNTED NATIONS:

WASHINGTON POST: Netanyahu tells UN that war will continue amid global backlash

Over 100 diplomats from more than 50 countries staged a mass walkout as Netanyahu entered the assembly hall, crowding into aisles to file out through the room’s exits. Meanwhile, Netanyahu’s supporters cheered the prime minister from the assembly room’s upper gallery, and some broke out into song.

Much of Netanyahu’s speech lashed out against Israel’s critics in Western governments and the media that have decried the enormous death toll in Gaza and widespread accounts of starvation, which Netanyahu called “libelous lies” fueled by “antisemitism*.”

Netanyahu blasted efforts to recognize a Palestinian state, which he said he would never allow to happen. “Israel will not allow you to shove a terror state down our throats,” he said (continue reading here).

*NOTE: Actual antisemitism is not as prevalent as Netanyahu would like us to think. A large portion of what he calls antisemitism is simply criticism of Israel, the self-proclaimed “Jewish State,” in other words, opposition to Zionism.

‘Arrest Netanyahu’: Israeli PM gets a New York welcome outside the UN

As Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke to a half-empty room at the UN General Assembly, thousands of protesters were gathered in Times Square to condemn his presence in New York City.

Netanyahu was issued an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in November 2024, on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed in Gaza since October 2023.

Towards the end of the “Arrest Netanyahu” protest, Colombian President Gustavo Petro and English musician Roger Waters joined in on the protest.

The last time Netanyahu was in New York, in September of last year, he reportedly approved the pager attacks in Lebanon from his hotel in Manhattan. Dozens of Lebanese were killed, and over 3,000 were injured.

UN reports 43% surge in foreign firms ‘illegally operating’ in West Bank settlements since 2023

“The UN Human Rights Office issued an update to our database of businesses involved in illegal Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank,” UN spokesperson Ravina Shamdasani said on 26 September.

“The database lists a total of 158 business enterprises from 11 countries. The report was mandated by the UN Human Rights Council, and today’s release updates the database that was first issued in 2020, then updated in 2023,” the spokesperson added.

Shamdasani revealed that “a total of 68 new companies were added to the list published in 2023, while seven of those listed in 2023 were removed as they were no longer involved in any of the activities concerned” (continue reading here).

The firms include travel businesses Airbnb, Booking.com, Expedia, and TripAdvisor, as well as the US tech company Motorola Solutions (see the full UN report with the list here).

UEFA set to vote on suspending Israel’s membership over Gaza war

The European football body UEFA is reportedly preparing to vote on suspending Israel’s membership because of the war in Gaza. This comes two weeks before Israel is due to resume its qualifying matches for the 2026 World Cup.

Sources told the agency that “a majority of UEFA’s 20-member executive committee is expected to support any vote in favor of suspending Israeli teams from international play. The sources spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.

It remains unclear whether world soccer body FIFA would support such a move. Questions have been raised because of the close ties between FIFA president Gianni Infantino and US president Donald Trump.

US to revoke Colombian president’s visa over Gaza comments

The US State Department said it would revoke Colombian President Gustavo Petro’s visa for his “reckless and incendiary actions” after he took to New York’s streets on Friday in a pro-Palestinian demonstration and urged US soldiers to disobey President Donald Trump’s orders.

Petro, addressing a crowd of pro-Palestinian protesters outside the U.N. headquarters in Manhattan, called for a global armed force with the priority to liberate Palestinians, adding, “This force has to be bigger than that of the United States.”

“That’s why from here, from New York, I ask all the soldiers of the army of the United States not to point their guns at people. Disobey the orders of Trump. Obey the orders of humanity,” Petro said in Spanish (continue reading here).
