Gaza hospitals have received 12 more bodies and 11 injured patients in the past 24 hours, according to the enclave’s Health Ministry.

Three Palestinians, including a child, killed by Israeli forces in Gaza despite ceasefire

A Palestinian child was killed Wednesday by Israeli army gunfire in the city of Rafah, southern Gaza Strip, despite a ceasefire in place between Hamas and Israel, Anadolu has learned.

The victim, 13-year-old Hamza al-Hams, was shot in the chest by a sniper in Rafah, said a medical source at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis.

Israeli forces opened fire on the child in the Al-Awda area of Rafah, injuring him, witnesses said, adding that he was transferred to hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.

This came hours after a Palestinian was killed and another was critically injured in the ash-Shawka area east of the city.

Meanwhile, a Palestinian has died of critical wounds he sustained on the first day of the ceasefire in al-Shaboura camp in central Rafah.

A powerful storm has battered Gaza displacement camps, flooding makeshift shelters, destroying tents, and leaving thousands of displaced families exposed to freezing temperatures and worsening humanitarian conditions.

Floodwaters swallowed hundreds of fragile tents, while howling winds ripped others from the ground, leaving families with nothing but open sky above them.

In the overcrowded refugee camps, home to more than 1.5 million displaced people, despair lingers as heavily as the bitter cold that grips the land.

With no protection from the relentless rain and biting wind, families huddled together in the open, shivering through a night that offered neither warmth nor relief. The few tattered remnants of their shelters stood no chance against the raging storm, leaving them completely exposed, defenseless against nature’s fury (continue reading here).

US lawmakers push bill to rename the West Bank to ‘Judea and Samaria’

US Republican lawmakers in both the House and Senate have introduced bills to prohibit using the term “West Bank” in official US government documents, replacing it with “Judea and Samaria”- the name for the occupied area commonly used by Israel’s far-right and extremist settlers.

The proposed legislation aims to reinforce Israel’s claim to the occupied territory, which it captured during the 1967 war and has controlled ever since, according to a report by The New York Times on Tuesday.

The West Bank is home to over three million Palestinians, including families who were expelled or displaced from their homes in what is now Israel during the establishment of the state in 1948.

The bill has been pushed for by right-wing lawmakers in both the US and Israel who support the annexation of the West Bank—an area widely recognized by the international community as part of a future Palestinian state.

West Bank: in spite of prisoner swap, number of Palestinian prisoners remains over 10,000

In the West Bank, more than 10,000 Palestinians from the occupied West Bank were held in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including at least 365 children, 15 women, and no fewer than 3,369 people in administrative detention.

Numbers for Gaza prisoners remain unclear.

Israel leaves ‘biased’ UN rights body, following Trump’s lead

Israel’s UN envoy has said his country will “stand with” the United States and “not participate” in the UN Human Rights Council, accusing the body of “moral failure”.

“The UN Human Rights Council is a biased body that is obsessively focused on attacking Israel,” said Danny Danon, in a post on X. “We will not support a council that has long abandoned its moral compass.”

Israel has lobbied hard to have UNRWA closed as it is the only UN agency to have a specific mandate to look after the basic needs of Palestinian refugees. If the agency no longer exists, argues Israel, then the refugee issue must no longer exist, and the legitimate right for Palestinian refugees to return to their land will be unnecessary.
Israel has denied that right of return since the late 1940s, even though its own membership of the UN was made conditional upon Palestinian refugees being allowed to return to their homes and land.

Trump ‘not committed’ to sending US troops to Gaza yet: White House

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt faced questions from reporters a day after Trump unveiled a plan for the US to take over Gaza and indicated he is willing to send US forces there.

Asked repeatedly whether that meant US troops might be deployed in a war against Hamas, Leavitt said, “The president has not committed to that yet.”

“The president is prepared to rebuild Gaza for Palestinians and all people in the region, peace-loving people, who want real economic development and opportunity in the region,” she said.

“President Trump wants to ensure that this can be a place where all people can live in peace. He is a peace-maker in chief.”

IDF told to prepare plan enabling Palestinians to voluntarily leave Gaza

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday that he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces to prepare a plan to facilitate the voluntary departure of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip.

The statement comes in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal this week that Gaza’s population be relocated to Egypt, Jordan and additional countries.

“The plan will include exit options at land crossings as well as special arrangements for exit by sea and air,” said Katz. “I welcome U.S. President Donald Trump’s bold plan. The residents of Gaza should be allowed to enjoy the freedom of exit and migration as is customary everywhere in the world.”

Human Rights Watch says forcibly displacing Palestinians would be a ‘moral abomination’

Displacing Palestinians would be a moral abomination, Human Rights Watch Israel’s Palestine director has said in response to a proposal from US President Donald Trump that the United States take over Gaza.

“It would be a moral abomination,” said Omar Shakir, from the international non-government organization that advocates for human rights.

“International humanitarian law forbids the forced displacement of the population of an occupied territory. When such forced displacement is widespread, it can amount to a war crime or a crime against humanity.”

President Trump’s claim that US will take over Gaza and forcibly deport Palestinians appalling and unlawful

Reacting to President Donald Trump’s comments that the USA will “take over the Gaza Strip”, advocating again for the forcible transfer of around 2 million Palestinians from Gaza to neighboring countries, Amnesty International’s Secretary General Agnès Callamard said:

“President Trump’s remarks calling for the forcible transfer of Palestinians from the occupied Gaza Strip must be unequivocally and widely condemned. His language is inflammatory, outrageous and shameful, and his proposal amounts to a flagrant violation of international law.

“Any plan to forcibly deport Palestinians outside the occupied territory against their will is a war crime, and when committed as part of a widespread or systematic attack on the civilian population, it would constitute a crime against humanity (read the full statement here).

US congressman to bring impeachment charges for Trump over Gaza comments

US Congressman Al Green has said that he was introducing impeachment articles against US President Donald Trump over the president’s comments on Gaza.

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere and injustice in Gaza is a threat to justice in the United States of America,” Green, a Democrat from Texas, said in a floor speech Wednesday.

“I rise to announce that the movement to impeach the president has begun. I rise to announce that I will bring articles of impeachment against the president for dastardly deeds proposed and dastardly deeds done.”

“Ethnic cleansing in Gaza is not a joke, especially when it emanates from the President of the United States, the most powerful person in the world,” Green said on the floor of the House of Representatives, adding, “Ethnic cleansing and Gaza is no joke, and the Prime Minister of Israel should be ashamed knowing the history of his people to stand there and allow such things to be said.”

Trump ‘openly calling for ethnic cleansing’, says US Congresswoman Tlaib

US Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has shared a scathing response to Trump’s latest remarks on the Gaza Strip.

“This president is openly calling for ethnic cleansing while sitting next to a genocidal war criminal,” said Tlaib, who is the only Palestinian-American serving in the US Congress.

“He’s perfectly fine cutting off working Americans from federal funds while the funding to the Israeli government continues flowing,” she added.

US senator says Trump has ‘totally lost it’ over Gaza ‘invasion’ comments

Posting on X, Chris Murphy, a Democratic senator from Connecticut, said, “We aren’t taking over Gaza.”

“He’s totally lost it. A US invasion of Gaza would lead to the slaughter of thousands of US troops and decades of war in the Middle East. It’s like a bad, sick joke,” he said in another post.

Murphy said that Trump’s comments were intended to distract the media and people “from the real story – the billionaires seizing government to steal from regular people”.

Hind Rajab Foundation: Suspected Israeli War Criminal in Switzerland Under Investigation

The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) confirms that it has formally filed a criminal complaint before Swiss authorities, leading to the opening of an investigation into a suspected Israeli war criminal currently present in Switzerland. The complaint provides extensive evidence implicating the individual in war crimes and crimes against humanity, including attacks on civilians, destruction of homes and hospitals, forced displacement, and other grave violations of international law committed in the Gaza Strip.

This Swiss investigation comes at a time of mounting international legal action against Israeli crimes in Gaza. The International Criminal Court (ICC) has recently issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for their role in directing and overseeing these crimes. However, accountability must not stop at high-ranking officials—the individuals who carried out these atrocities on the ground must also be brought to justice (read more here).
