In 1990 Illinois Congressman Gus Savage gave an hour-long speech in Congress in which he detailed how AIPAC subverts the democratic process on behalf of Israel. “The purpose of AIPAC is to promote a foreign nation, not in America’s interest, an organization operating within America composed of Americans, in the interest of a foreign nation interfering in the internal affairs and the elections of this Nation…”
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee passed the legislation, allowing it to proceed to the full Senate floor. The bill also authorizes the president to establish a US-Israeli counter-drone program, expand collaboration on the peaceful exploration of space, extended loan guarantees to Israel, etc. (Rand Paul’s call to phase out aid to Israel was voted down.)
Former foreign agent for Qatar Nick Muzin has apparently managed to shut down Al Jazeera’s upcoming blockbuster undercover documentary on the Israel Lobby in the US.

Historian Doug Rossinow discusses the creation of AIPAC, originally formed to spin positive PR after the 1953 Qibya Massacre (wiping out over 60 Palestinians in revenge for the killing of 3 Israelis). The organization has proven that nothing Israel can do can’t be spun to deflect the blame or attention elsewhere.
