First handful of Palestinian children leave Gaza for medical treatment – Ceasefire Day 13

Hospitals in Gaza have received 27 bodies in the past 24 hours: at least one from a new Israeli strike, two were Palestinians who succumbed to previous injuries, and 24 bodies that were recovered from the rubble.

37 children make it out of Gaza for treatment in Egypt

The reopening of the Rafah crossing represents a significant breakthrough that bolsters the ceasefire deal Israel and Hamas reached last month.

Egypt’s Al-Qahera television showed several children being brought out on gurneys and transferred to ambulances on the Egyptian side. They were rushed to hospitals in the nearby Egyptian city of El Arish and elsewhere.

Zaher al-Wahidi, an official with Gaza’s Health Ministry, said 37 of the children had crossed into Egypt by Saturday evening.

Mohammed Zaqout, director of hospitals at Gaza’s Health Ministry, said more than 6,000 patients were ready to be evacuated abroad and more than 12,000 were in urgent need of treatment.

Israel is currently allowing 50 patients to leave per day.

Ghassan Abu Sittah, a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who worked extensively at al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City during the war, said, “I feel great pain for the families who have been denied the chance to accompany the children; the 50 children who have been evacuated have only been allowed one accompanying adult who has to either be a male over 55 or female – no siblings. So the cruelty is even intrinsic in what is supposed to be a humanitarian gesture.”

Over 180 Palestinians freed from Israeli prisons, many show signs of ‘torture, starvation’

Israel released 183 Palestinian detainees in exchange for three Israeli captives on 1 February as part of the fourth prisoner swap under the ceasefire agreement underway in Gaza. Eighteen were serving life sentences and 54 serving lengthy sentences.

The group of detainees included about 140 Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and 32 from the occupied West Bank.

Seven of them were deported outside the West Bank, and one holding Egyptian citizenship was sent to Egypt.

Some of the released prisoners said they were treated badly in the days leading to their freedom, facing death threats from the Israeli army, enduring severe beatings, and deprived of food and water.

Many of the released detainees were taken directly to medical facilities due to signs of torture, starvation, and infections, including scabies. “Once again, every time prisoners are released, we find the prisoners’ bodies reflecting the level of crimes committed against them, including torture that is unprecedented in its level after October 7,” the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) said in a statement.

West Bank: airstrikes, sniper kill 6 Palestinians, including teenager

Five Palestinians were killed and three others injured Saturday in three Israeli airstrikes targeting Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank. A sixth was killed by an Israeli sniper in Tulkarm.

Media sources reported that an armed Israeli drone fired a missile at a group of Palestinians, on Saturday afternoon, in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin city, killing the child, Ahmad Abdel Halim Al-Saadi, 14, and injuring two young men.

WAFA correspondent reported that an Israeli drone fired a missile at a vehicle traveling in the center of Qabatiya town, near Jenin, killing two men, Saleh Mohammad Al-Ashab Zakarneh, 22, and Abdul Essam Mohammad Kamil, 18, and injuring others.

Israeli forces also executed, on Saturday, two Palestinian men when an Israeli drone fired a missile at a motorcycle traveling in the eastern neighborhood of Jenin. They were identified as Tamam Mohi El-Din Al-Saadi, 27, and Nour El-Din Nasser Al-Saadi, 32.

Media sources said that an Israeli sniper executed the citizen, Wahid Omar Wahid Madi, 51, on Saturday afternoon, in the Qaqun neighborhood of the Tulkarem refugee camp. Occupation forces denied him medical treatment for ninety minutes by blocking the PRCS from reaching him.

One of the Palestinians killed in Israel’s drone attack on the town of Qabatiya, south of Jenin, was reportedly a man who was freed as part of the ceasefire deal Israel and Hamas in November 2023.

Reached for comment, the military said the air force “struck armed terrorists in the Jenin area”.

Netanyahu to depart Sunday for US to meet Trump

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will begin a visit to the US on Sunday to meet President Donald Trump, his office said.

Netanyahu’s visit will be his first international visit since the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him in November 2024, on charges of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity against Palestinians in Gaza.

He “will be the first national leader that US President Trump is meeting with following his inauguration,” the statement added.
