Mobile billboards are alerting Iowa and New Hampshire citizens to the catastrophe in Gaza and the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty… and about the billions of Americans’ tax dollars Congress gives to Israel

Press release

Electronic billboard trucks have begun rolling around Iowa and New Hampshire. The trucks feature 14 rotating images about the situation in Gaza and about the Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 Americans and injured 174.

The two mobile billboards direct viewers to the website IfAmericansKnew.org, an American nonprofit organization founded by former journalist and author Alison Weir.

Weir says the point of the billboards is to inform Americans about Israel-Palestine and the American connection.

“The US currently gives Israel over $10 million per day of our tax money, and there are efforts to raise this to $50 million dollars per day in 2024. This makes it essential for American taxpayers to have full information on the issue.

“It’s especially important to learn about this topic now, when over 22,000 Palestinians (including 9,000 children) and about 1,200 Israelis (including 36 children) have been killed since October 6, and Gaza is experiencing a catastrophic humanitarian disaster. About 80% of gaza’s population have been forced from their homes. There are numerous child amputees.

In addition, a number of false and misleading stories have been disseminated on the issue. While many of these have been retracted and debunked, most people may not have seen those reports.

Also, there is growing concern that the escalating violence could grow into a regional war that would involve the US, making it especially important for Americans to be well informed on the facts.

Weir says the website provides “information on both the current situation and the history of the conflict in thoroughly cited detail, including Israel’s efforts to sink the USS Liberty in 1967. Survivors of the attack have been trying to get justice ever since.”

Weir points out that while Israel and its partisans claim the attack was accidental, the survivors provide evidence that contradicts their attackers’ claim.

A resolution has been submitted in the New Hampshire legislature to establish “a commission to investigate the USS Liberty incident of 1967 and its aftermath” (HB 1041). The hearing is scheduled for Jan. 12 at 9:45 AM in LOB Room 206-208. Several Liberty crew members plan to attend.

Weir, who grew up in a military family, went to the region in fall of 2001 as a freelance journalist. Weir explains: “I  saw for myself what was going on and how poorly US media were covering it. When I returned, I founded this organization to be a non-ideological, journalistic source of information for all Americans.

“While virtually anyone and everyone speaking about the situation for Palestinians is accused of being antisemitic – even individuals who are Jewish – the fact is I have a life history of opposing all bigotry, and feel the current situation is bad for everyone.”

Weir’s Book on the issue, “Against Our Better Judgment: The hidden history of how the U.S. was used to create Israel”, has sold close to 60,000 copies.
