GLOBAL MARCH TO GAZA:

Will the Global March to Gaza succeed where the Madleen flotilla failed?

Thousands of activists, human rights campaigners and civilians from around the world have joined the Global March to Gaza to break Israel’s ongoing siege and demand an end to the devastating war on the Palestinian enclave.

So far, activists and civilians from 50 countries have joined the march, with recent additions including participants from Poland and Wales. The convoy originated in Tunisia, has passed through Libya, and will cross Egypt

Since the movement launched, Israel has called on Egypt to prevent any such groups from reaching the Gaza border, and carrying out what Israel considers provocations, or attempting to enter Gaza.

Since the warning from Israel, Cairo has stressed that any foreigners trying to enter Gaza need to submit “applications and obtain prior approval” before crossing any borders.

Participants say they are committed to continuing the march despite anticipated obstacles.

“A legal team with international law attorneys is mobilized to anticipate all scenarios. But our strength lies in our visibility and negotiations with embassies: if thousands of peaceful citizens are turned back or arrested, the entire world will know,” it reads.

IRAN NEWS SNAPSHOTS:

BREAKING: IDF Declares Iran as Primary Warfront, Downgrades Gaza to Secondary Arena.

The IDF said on Saturday that Iran has become Israel’s primary combat arena, while the Gaza front has become secondary, “in the hope of bringing the hostages back as quickly as possible.”

New Israeli airstrikes hit the Iranian cities of Tabriz and Shiraz on the afternoon of 13 June, several hours after the start of Tel Aviv’s large-scale campaign against the country. Strikes on Tabriz reportedly targeted the city’s international airport.

At least 86 Iranians were killed and 341 others injured in large-scale Israeli airstrikes that targeted Iran on Friday, according to Fars news agency.

At least 63 Israelis were reportedly injured, including two in critical condition, by Iranian retaliatory ballistic missiles that targeted several areas across Israel.

U.S. President Donald Trump has yet to make a public appearance, though he has posted several times on Truth Social and conducted phone interviews with major American media indicating that he knew details of the unprecedented military operation in advance. Israeli officials, meanwhile, have been briefing that the U.S. was in the loop throughout the entire process.

The US is helping to intercept the missiles, an American official confirmed on Friday.

French President Emmanuel Macron defended “Israel’s right to protect itself,” even welcoming the “effects” of Israeli strikes against Iran’s nuclear capabilities, AFP reported on Friday.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer told Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu he has “grave concerns” over Iran’s nuclear program and believes Israel has the right to self-defense, Reuters reported on Friday.

Given that Iran had neither shown any preparations for an attack on Israel nor made any military threats against it, the “preemptive strike” was certainly illegal under international law — not that Netanyahu has shown any particular concern for such niceties.

“Some contamination was detected inside the facility, but this contamination did not spread outside the facility,” Kamalvandi told Iran’s state television.

The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, told the Security Council on Friday that the above-ground enrichment plant at Iran’s Natanz nuclear site has been destroyed, Reuters reported on Friday.

The Israeli military operation launched against Iran on 13 June follows eight months of covert planning by Israeli intelligence and military agencies.

The Israeli government has activated Decree 8, calling up all reservists for emergency military duty.

Israeli attacks on Iran are expected to continue for up to 14 days, according to an unnamed Israeli official.

A brief summary of Iran’s statements at the UN Security Council emergency meeting is here; Israel’s are here.

US quietly sent hundreds of Hellfire missiles to Israel before Iran attack

The US sent around 300 Hellfire missiles to Israel on Tuesday in a large-scale stock-up of supplies before its attack on Iran, and as the Trump administration was saying it was ready to continue engaging Iran in nuclear talks.

The transfer of such a large quantity of Hellfires suggests that the Trump administration was well-informed of Israel’s plans to attack the Islamic Republic of Iran, two US officials told MEE on the condition of anonymity.

The US’s delivery of Hellfires or other large quantities of weapons in the lead up to Friday’s attack has not been previously reported.

Axios reported on Friday, citing two Israeli officials, that the Trump administration was only “pretending” to resist Israel’s attack plans, but privately did not resist them.

The US did not have to provide public notification of the transfer because it was already approved as part of a $7.4bn arms deal that included bombs, missiles, and related equipment that Congress was notified of in February 2025 (continue reading here).

Iranian official says countries that try to defend Israel will become targets: Report

A US broadcaster has quoted an unnamed Iranian official as saying Iran will target the regional bases of countries that attempt to defend Israel.

“Iran reserves the right – under international law – to respond decisively to this regime,” the unnamed official told CNN.

“Any country that attempts to defend the regime against Iran’s operations will, in turn, see its regional bases and positions become new targets,” the official added.

Int’l Atomic Energy Agency Statement: ‘Nuclear Facilities Must Never Be Attacked’

We [IAEA] are currently in contact with the Iranian nuclear safety authorities to ascertain the status of relevant nuclear facilities and to assess any wider impacts on nuclear safety and security. At present, the competent Iranian authorities have confirmed that the Natanz enrichment site has been impacted and that there are no elevated radiation levels. They have also reported that at present the Esfahan and Fordow sites have not been impacted.

This development is deeply concerning. I have repeatedly stated that nuclear facilities must never be attacked, regardless of the context or circumstances, as it could harm both people and the environment.  Such attacks have serious implications for nuclear safety, security and safeguards, as well as regional and international peace and security.

In this regard, the IAEA recalls the numerous General Conference resolutions on the topic of military attacks against nuclear facilities…which provide, inter alia, that “any armed attack on and threat against nuclear facilities devoted to peaceful purposes constitutes a violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter, international law and the Statute of the Agency”.

Furthermore, the IAEA has consistently underlined that “armed attacks on nuclear facilities could result in radioactive releases with grave consequences within and beyond the boundaries of the State which has been attacked”  (continue reading here).

Is Iran as close to building a nuclear weapon as Netanyahu claims?

In justifying Israel’s attack on Iran, Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said he had acted to pre-empt a secret Iranian program to build a nuclear bomb, claiming Tehran already had the capacity to build nine nuclear bombs. Israeli officials also claimed to have presented information to the US that Iran had recently made the necessary technical breakthroughs.

Netanyahu’s critics are saying he acted to pre-empt something else: a diplomatic agreement between the US and Iran on its civil nuclear program, or even the demise of his own government. They point out that Israel has been saying for 20 years that Iran is on the brink of building a bomb.

Either way, his claim largely depends on Israel’s formidable intelligence community possessing a greater state of knowledge about Iran’s nuclear program than either its US counterparts or the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) (continue reading here).

How Israel and the U.S. manufactured a fake crisis with Iran that could lead to all-out war

After years of talks, sanctions, and threats, it is possible we have seen the beginning of the long-dreaded war in the Persian Gulf between a U.S.-backed Israel and Iran.

On Thursday, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors passed a resolution censuring Iran for non-compliance with its obligations under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and other agreements, and stated that the violations were such that the United Nations Security Council could respond.

Rather than wait for any potential international action, Israel launched its attack less than 24 hours after the IAEA vote, using the censure as a pretext (continue reading here).

NOTABLE QUOTES:

U.S. Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), a member of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee:

Israel’s attack on Iran, clearly intended to scuttle the Trump Administration’s negotiations with Iran, risks a regional war that will likely be catastrophic for America and is further evidence of how little respect world powers – including our own allies – have for President Trump.

Iran would not be this close to possessing a nuclear weapon if Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu had not forced America out of the nuclear agreement with Iran that brought Europe, Russia, and China together behind the United States to successfully contain Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

This is a disaster of Trump and Netanyahu’s own making, and now the region risks spiraling toward a new, deadly conflict. A war between Israel and Iran may be good for Netanyahu’s domestic politics, but it will likely be disastrous for both the security of Israel, the United States, and the rest of the region.

As Secretary Rubio stated, the United States was not involved in today’s strikes, and we have no obligation to follow Israel into a war we did not ask for and will make us less safe.
