3 more Palestinians dead – one shot in the head for honking his horn

The Palestinian Ministry of Health said in a statement that January 2023 has been the bloodiest since 2015 in the occupied West Bank. Israeli forces have killed 35 Palestinians, including 8 children and an elderly woman.

A lone Palestinian carried out an attack against Israelis on Friday, killing 7. The incident took place in a settlement that was built on illegally appropriated Palestinian land. The shooter was killed, and his family was evicted from their home in preparation for its demolition – a violation of international law.

On Monday morning, the Palestinian Health Ministry confirmed the death of a young Palestinian man who was shot by Israeli soldiers in Hebron city, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank.

The Health Ministry officially identified the young slain as Nassim Nayef Salman Abu Fouda, 26. From Hebron.

It added that the soldiers fired several live rounds at Nassim’s car near a military roadblock, known as #160, near the Ibrahimi Mosque, seriously wounding the young man in the head.

Palestinian medics rushed Nassim to the Al-Ahli hospital in Hebron before he was admitted to surgery but later succumbed to gunshot wounds to the head.

Late on Saturday night, Israeli soldiers killed a young Palestinian man near the Kedumim illegal Israeli colony built on stolen Palestinian lands east of Qalqilia in the northern part of the occupied West Bank.

Media sources said the Palestinian has been identified as Karam Ali Salman, 18, from Qusin town, west of Nablus, in the northern West Bank.

Israeli sources said the Palestinian was armed and was observed approaching the Kedumim colony, not far from the home of far-right Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, before the soldiers fatally shot him. (View security camera footage here.)

They added that the army instructed the colonizers in Kedumim to shelter in place while the soldiers conducted massive searches in the area.

On Sunday, the army said it cleared the area and lifted the security warning that instructed the colonizers to remain in their homes.

Seven Israelis Killed in Jerusalem Shooting Attack

reposted from IMEMC – the International Middle East Media Center, January 28, 2023

On Friday evening, seven Israelis were shot and killed, and ten more were wounded, on the street in front of a synagogue in the Nabi Yacoub settlement in the northern part of Jerusalem. The suspected shooter, a 21-year-old Palestinian, was shot and killed by Israeli police at the scene.

The Palestinian man who was shot and killed by Israeli police, the suspected shooter in the attack, was identified as 21-year-old Khairi Alkam. According to Al Jazeera, Alkam’s grandfather and namesake was stabbed to death by an Israeli settler in 1998.

The attack came just a day after ten Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces – nine in Jenin and one in Jerusalem. Since the beginning of January, 30 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces, including several children, while no Israelis were killed until this attack. During the Israeli assault in Jenin Thursday, in addition to killing nine Palestinians, the Israeli military also blocked ambulances from reaching the hospital and fired tear gas into a children’s ward at the hospital.

The location of the settlement where the attack took place was Nabi Yacoub colony, which was constructed on illegally-seized Palestinian land in the neighborhood of Silwan. This neighborhood has been the target of massive Israeli expansion and Palestinian displacement in recent years, as Israeli authorities try to remove the Palestinian presence and replace the ancient residents of the neighborhood with newly-arrive Zionist colonizers — particularly in the Wadi Hilweh area adjacent to the Al-Aqsa mosque, and in the rest of the Silwan neighborhood.

UPI adds: Israeli police on Sunday sealed off the home of a Palestinian man who is alleged to have killed seven people and wounded three others during a shooting outside of a synagogue in the Neve Yaakov area of East Jerusalem on Friday. [NOTE: punitive home demolition is a form of collective punishment and a violation of international law.]

Hundreds of Palestinians in Silwan live under threat of eviction at any time as part of a “Judaization” plan at the highest levels. [NOTE: this is another violation of international law.]

NOTE: The entire West Bank has been under Israeli occupation since 1967; all its official entrances and exits are controlled by Israeli soldiers, making its Palestinian inhabitants virtual prisoners. Many are families that were ethnically cleansed from Israel during Israel’s founding war (see this and this and this). Israeli forces often invade them; one example is here.

Israel was established in 1947 through a war of ethnic cleansing of the indigenous population, both Muslims and Christians, and it continues to steal other people’s land for illegal colonies known as ‘settlements.’ While Palestinians most often use nonviolent resistance, a small number use armed resistance against the invaders.

Thanks to the pro-Israel lobby in the US, Congress disburses over $20 million per day of Americans’ tax money directly to and/or on behalf of Israel.
